Idol Headlines for 09/28/10

DeWyze Makes Good

Chicago – Monday afternoon, I got a call from a representative of Lee DeWyze’s label, who was very upset DeWyze “snubbed” us on Friday by canceling an interview at Arlington Park before his concert.

Turns out, they had no idea who had originally booked DeWyze with us and feel terrible about the mix-up.

The good news: DeWyze will be back to talk with us before his album comes out and will give us an exclusive angle on all of it.

He feels terrible that we weren’t able to connect on Friday.

Review: Carrie Underwood brings thrilling `Play On Tour’ to San Jose

More musical mediocrity has been spawned by TV’s “American Idol” than from any other single entity in history.

The biggest exception continues to be Carrie Underwood, the 2005 “A.I.” champ that has totaled 10 No. 1 country singles, three platinum-plus-selling albums and numerous music awards during her relatively short career.

Her one weakness has traditionally been her live show, but now that has become a strength as well.

Interview: David Archuleta’s ‘Down’ with new album, plots Spanish-language album

The first time David Archuleta released a full-length album, he’d co-written two of the 12 songs. For his newest “The Other Side of Down, ” he’s credited for 10. The result, he says, is a set of songs that lift the veil on some of his quirks.

“This album is about personality, ” Archuleta says in a phone interview. “It’s embracing that I’m not perfect, but I have to be the way I am or I’m not gonna be happy.”

“I really wanna do a Spanish album, ” the Utah native mentions, noting that his mom is from Honduras. “I have that Latin culture background. It’s a part of me. I’m not the best Spanish speaker, but I have a longing to connect with that. I just think how supportive the Latin community has been, even during ‘Idol.’ I’d like to give back with something like that.”

NASHVILLE — Tonight’s star-studded reopening of the refurbished Grand Ole Opry House may be specially titled Country Comes Home, but in some ways, the long-running radio program never left.

The Opry didn’t miss a single airing after the devastating middle Tennessee flooding in May. But its permanent home near the Cumberland River east of Nashville suffered significant damage, forcing a temporary relocation to several area venues.
