Local American Idols in town

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – The hit FOX TV show “American Idol” is gearing up for its tenth anniversary season and, as a special promotion, FOX crews are heading to all of the past winners’ hometowns to see where they came from and what they are up to now.

FOX6 was on the set Tuesday as both local American Idols Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard filmed their segments.

“It means a lot to come back, ” said Hicks about returning to Birmingham.

For Studdard, he still calls Alabama home.

“Even though I’ll go away and work and come back, I’ve always kept Birmingham my home. And I’m so happy and thankful that God has continued to bless me here in this city.”

Exclusive: How Fantasia Barrino Handled Her Scandals

Oh, Fantasia Barrino, where did we go wrong? First we were dazzled by you on American Idol. Then, you had us in tears with your first two albums and biography, Life Is Not A Fairytale. Then, just before dropping your acclaimed Top Ten disc, Back To Me, last month, everything imploded (let’s not even get into your prior bankruptcy and health troubles). You were accused of stealing another woman’s husband, had a bad breakup and then attempted suicide. But there is one up note to all the drama: your music remains as poignant as ever. Why? Enter Claude Kelly, the famed songwriter and vocal producer behind megahits for Kelly Clarkson, Whitney Houston and Miley Cyrus, to explain. He’s also currently cooking up new stuff with Jennifer Hudson, Britney Spears, latest Idol Lee Dewyze and David Archuleta, but he had time to chat with Usmagazine.com about ‘Tasia (for whom he penned both of her recent singles, “Bittersweet” and “I’m Doin’ Me”), Kelly Clarkson’s True Blood fanaticism and trying to get Christina Aguilera into the smash HBO show.

‘Idol’ Struggles To Re-Create Its Winning Panel

After months of rumor and speculation, one of the most popular television shows in the world, American Idol, is scheduled to announce a new lineup of judges to steer the next Carrie Underwood toward stardom — or the next Clay Aiken toward 15 precious minutes of fame.

Cowell arguably brought the most authority, as a music executive with decades of experience and a masterly mean streak.

‘Glee’: Chord Overstreet talks about his big mouth, name and singing in the shower

Chord Overstreet has a big mouth and can laugh about it.

In the Season 2 premiere of “Glee” Tuesday night (Sept. 20), Overstreet plays transfer student Sam Evans, whom Puck (Mark Salling) rather tactlessly asks, “Dude, your mouth is huge. How many tennis balls can you fit in there?”

“I laughed when I read that in the script, ” Overstreet tells Zap2it. “I mean, I always got compliments or comments on my lips because I do have big lips. They definitely write about the actors’ actual features, which I think is funny. It’s something everybody’s thinking and when you actually hear it on the show, it’s like ‘I can’t believe they said that.'”

‘Dancing With the Stars’ results recap: Elimination shocker!

Well, I didn’t see that coming. This evening ushered in the first results show of “Dancing With the Stars’ ” 11th season, and while Tom and Brooke kept dropping hints that this week’s elimination was a surprising one, I wasn’t sure whether to believe them.

But slap me upside the head and call me Shirley, this first-round cut really was a doozy.

Because, while he may have worn a shirt that said he wasn’t dead yet, David Hasselhoff’s time on this show has gone officially kaput.
