‘American Idol’ judges seen taking in Galveston

GALVESTON — Jenny from the block was incognito while Steven Tyler didn’t have to “Dream On” about having a good meal at The Steakhouse during the weekend.

The judges from Fox TV’s hit series “American Idol” reportedly were on the island Saturday as part of the show’s Houston auditions. Facebook and Twitter were alive with reports of Jennifer Lopez and Tyler sightings at the San Luis Resort and the Galveston Island Convention Center. While officials from the Landry’s-owned San Luis Resort could not be reached for confirmation, cyberspace had plenty of photo evidence of brushes with greatness as the stars of the show mingled with guests and residents.

Casey James Talks New Music, Writing With Sugarland’s Kristian Bush and Having Randy Owen as a Mentor

Sony didn’t rush you along like they have some other ‘American Idol’ contestants. Had you noticed that, and why do you think that is?
Yeah, I guess it’s the mindset of coming at this from the angle of “this is an artist that had it not been from ‘American Idol, ’ we would have picked him up anyways.” I think that’s how they’re trying to handle it and take me forward in the way that I can continue and have a 50-year career, more than just rushing something out and trying to capitalize on the fact that I’ve got fans from a TV show. I really appreciate that because I spent more than 12 years of hard work playing smoky bars for four or five hours a night for seven nights a week and you know, I hope that would count for something.

Jordin Sparks gives kisses to her pup Minnie in this new shot from the September 2011 issue of Life+Dog magazine.

The 21-year-old musician showed off her canine comrades in the issue with mom Jodi.

Jordin shared, “I absolutely adore Labradors. They are the perfect dog. They are so smart and learn so fast! They’re not too big and not too small and I love that they love to swim because I do, too! But I have a Schnauzer-Bichon and a Schnauzer-Poodle mix and since they grew up with our lab they think they are too! Jumping in the pool, fetching—the whole nine.”

Take Me To The Pilots ’11: NBC’s ‘Smash’

The Pitch: “It’s ‘Glee’… Only for people who like their musical theater undefiled.”
Quick Response: Although the instinct is to think of “Smash” as NBC’s answer to “Glee, ” the network’s decision to air this midseason drama at 10 p.m. isn’t an accident. The network hasn’t scheduled “Smash” at 10 at the risk of narrowing its audience, but rather scheduled it at 10 p.m. in recognition that “Smash” probably isn’t going to be for everybody. “Glee” twists itself into pretzel shapes to be a Big Tent show, an Everybody’s Special, Everybody’s Welcome show. And “Smash” is not “Glee, ” which is what I appreciated most from the pilot.

Israeli singer accused of skewing ‘Idol’ vote

Prosecutors have accused a leading Israeli singer of skewing the vote while judging Israel’s version of the “American Idol” singing contest. Margalit Tzanani is accused of conspiring with crime kingpins to extort her manager and repaying them by advancing their interests in the entertainment industry.

The indictment, issued Monday, accuses her of voting for one contestant after a suspected crime boss instructed her to do so in a text message during the live broadcast.

Prosecutors say Tzanani also voted for another contestant after his relative _ an acquaintance of the alleged crime boss _ called her from prison to ask for the vote. The contestant won third place but is not a suspect in the case.
