Sanjaya posted some sad news on his facebook, “My Mom, Jillian Recchi was hit by a car while she was walking across the street in New York. The car came speeding around a corner with blacked out windows and no license plates, hit her and her friend and sped off. She’s in critical condition in the hospital and isn’t awake from surgery.. You see that shit in Grand Theft Auto… It hits hard when it’s real life… all you can do is pace until the floor falls out.” Take care, Sanjaya…

Haley Reinhart rebounds from discouraging ‘American Idol’ round
It wasn’t an easy ride to “American Idol’s” top 3 for Haley Reinhart.
The 20-year-old singer from Wheeling, Ill., known for her soulful renditions of Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets” and The Animals’ “House of the Rising Sun” on the 10th season of “Idol, ” was actually passed over during her Chicago audition for season nine before then-judges Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi, Ellen Degeneres and current judge Randy Jackson. A year — and a new set of judges with Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler — made all the difference. But Reinhart almost didn’t audition for the show again.

Poll: What will win best reality-competition show at the Emmys?
Both “American Idol” and “So You Think You Can Dance” blundered by submitting their season finales, which are rather ho-hum viewing experiences now that we know who prevailed. A much better selection for “Idol” would’ve been the one in which Casey Abrams gets saved from elimination. Shrewdly, Ryan Seacrest submitted that one in the host category, but producer Nigel Lythgoe will continue to lose as long as he stubbornly sticks by entering season finales in the program race.

“Bridesmaids” star Kristen Wiig celebrated her 38th birthday on the Queens set of her new movie, “Imogene.” The comedienne was presented by the film’s crew with 100 doughnuts, a spy said, which were piled high like a cake. The rest of the cast — including Annette Bening, Matt Dillon and Darren Criss — gathered to sing “Happy Birthday.” No word on how many doughnuts they plowed through. Wiig plays a writer who fakes a suicide attempt to win back her boyfriend.

‘America’s Got Talent’ Hairstylist Russell Latham Dies at 54
Russell Latham, a renowned Hollywood hairstylist who worked on NBC summer hit America’s Got Talent since its 2006 debut, has died. He was 54. Details of his death were not immediately available.
Responsible for the look of the judges and contestants on the show, Latham came to work despite having to go through hours of dialysis each week, and America’s Got Talent in July received an Emmy nomination for outstanding hairstyling for a multicamera series or special — the show’s first-ever nom.
The crew of more than 200 shared a moment of silence onstage last week, and this week’s shows were dedicated to him. Latham also headed the hair department for Paula Abdul’s short-lived CBS show Live to Dance.
