‘Idol’ champion Lee DeWyze returning to area

And what did you do for your summer vacation? Lee DeWyze comes home Saturday to headline the “American Idol Live” tour at the United Center. The low-key Mount Prospect native will appear just over a year after he tried out in a cattle call of more than 12, 000 hopefuls at the United Center.

“To be in that same spot where I auditioned last summer will be weird, ” DeWyze said from Los Angeles. “Last time I was there, I was just a face in the crowd. Now here I am, after winning the whole thing and playing in front of my hometown crowd. I’ve been looking forward to that since the minute the show was over.

Interview: Lee DeWyze from American Idol

Lee DeWyze battled his way through season nine of American Idol, ultimately becoming the winner. He seemed tentative in the early weeks of the competition, though Simon Cowell was very supportive from the start. DeWyze showcased his raspy voice to good effect and as his confidence grew he emerged as the one to beat. Since July 1st, 2010, he has been headlining the American Idols LIVE! tour, bringing audiences to their feet throughout the country. I spoke with Mr. DeWyze prior to his performance at Seattle’s Key Arena.

Interview: Casey James from American Idol

I recently had an opportunity to sit down with newly signed Sony Nashville artist, Casey James as he finished up his time on the road with the American Idol Live tour.

Backstage at the Sacramento, CA tour stop, we talked about what kind of sound to expect on his upcoming album, if he was shocked about Ellen leaving, and what advice he has for future contestants.

The source says that former “Baywatch” hunk David Hasselhoff is taking to the ballroom to compete on the upcoming season of the hit reality dancing competition show. David’s “Dancing” stint comes just one season after his pal – original “Baywatch” babe Pamela Anderson — made her own run at the mirrorball trophy.

The former “America’s Got Talent” judge, recently roasted on Comedy Central, will be competing against a host of diverse stars, including a former fellow judge of the Hoff’s from the NBC summer talent show.

Mia Michaels as one of the Real Housewives of New Jersey?! Heck no! But…

The So You Think You Can Dance judge is still on track for her own Bravo reality show. The upcoming series doesn’t have a name yet. “It’s about me and my work, ” Michaels said at the Creative Arts Emmys just moments before being awarded Best Choreography. “We need to start shooting in the fall, in November-ish.”

She will not—we repeat, will not—take any cues from the “Bitch, I’m gonna pin you down” Garden State gals. “I don’t want to be trainwreck television, ” Michaels said.

Olly Murs defends Simon Cowell in X Factor auto-tune row

Murs, who came second in the talent show last year, insisted he never witnessed the voice-enhancing technology being used when he was a contestant. ‘I watched the show at the weekend and I never noticed a difference, ’ the 26-year-old told me.

‘Obviously, I watched my audition many times and I never noticed any changes and it sounded perfect to me. As a singer, you know if you’ve hit a bum note or did something bad and there were times on the live shows when I thought that note was terrible or I could have done better there.’

“I’m devastated. It’s heartbreaking, ” Cowell told The Sun.

  1. “I’m devastated. It’s heartbreaking,” Cowell told The Sun.

Exactly how much sleep do you think he lost?

  2. If our dreams come true you’ll be seeing these stars perform with the pros when Dancing with the Stars debuts September 20!

Every single year the powers-that-be at ABC make the same announcement (albeit with a different cast of characters) and every single year we wish WE had been allowed to choose which celebrities break out their sparkly shapewear and dance their butts off on Dancing with the Stars. Well, this time around WE are choosing the new crew – and even though we know there’s no way you’ll see President Barack Obama OR Sarah Palin ripping it up on the ABC dance floor — you may just find that some of our dream dancers actually become a reality! Read on, BFFs…

KARA DIOGUARDI Who needs American Idol? After getting fired (but learning about receiving her pink slip second hand) the former Idol judge would be only too happy to change allegiances to Fox’s rival network ABC.

DAVID ARCHULETA Someone’s got to represent the tween vote, right? Perhaps this American Idol alum will even sing a few tunes while he’s fox-trotting!

  3. Cowell had no problem exploiting Susan Boyle- maybe he doesn’t think this girl will make him as much money.

  4. The Inspirational Country Music Awards have announced their nominees, and several of country’s biggest names have made the list.

Danny Gokey isn’t listed with the “Biggest Names” but he is a nominee along with them!

He is up for Mainstream Country song of the year and

    Mainstream Country Artist

There is no way he will win, IMO, industry awards can be pretty political; but I think it’s great that he is nominated so early in the game!

  5. Indigobunting: Danny Gokey isn’t listed with the “Biggest Names” but he is a nominee along with them!

Actually the Inspirational Country Music Awards sent out a press release Monday announcing their top 5 nominees in each category and Danny didn’t make the cut:

The nominees for Mainstream Inspirational Country Song Of The Year are:

Love Like Crazy – Lee Brice
That’s God – Jo Dee Messina
    Temporary Home – Carrie Underwood
The Man I Want To Be – Chris Young
This Ain’t Nothing – Craig Morgan

The nominees for Mainstream Country Artist are:

Carrie Underwood; Craig Morgan; Josh Turner; Jeff Bates; Ricky Skaggs

But this is basically an organization that sets out to promote Christianity in country music so it’s very niche. Miranda Lambert’s The House That Built Me is only nominated in the video category but it’s going to sweep all the big awards show coming up plus the song of the year awards by the Nashville writers associations.

  6. Congrats to Carrie on her nominations for the inspirational ‘Temporary Home’. I think it is such a beautiful song and I loved her MV for it.

The Hoff on DWTS? OK, that makes it Must Miss TV for me. I can’t stand the guy, and you just know that he’ll go deep. I’m now rooting for ABC to not renew their contract with Time Warner Cable too. That way I won’t accidently see him in my house when I’m channel surfing.

Very cool that Kris introduced Archie where he (KA) auditioned. He wore the same newsboy cap!

I wonder what sort of mental problem the girl on X-Factor has that they felt the need to remove her. We’ve seen many marginal people on these reality shows, so it begs the question of ‘How serious is it?’ They’re certainly doing her no favors by going public with it.

Casey James really has his head screwed on straight. The guy is a class act.

  7. Actually the Inspirational Country Music Awards sent out a press release Monday announcing their top 5 nominees in each category and Danny didn’t make the cut:

He was up for the preliminary 10 nominees in those categories, which is a really nice honor for such a new artist! Fans were pretty surprised he made that list.

I didn’t realize they had weaned it down already to only top 5.

Congrats to Danny for making the preliminary nominees, at any rate!
Any non-fan voted award nomination is a good thing.

I am rooting for Carrie to win for Temporary Home. That is my favorite out of the top 5 listed.

  8. Really cool Behind the Scenes video by the radio station from Bash 2010 is here:

THere is some really funny stuff with David Archuletta (learning to say ‘No’) and some Kris Allen spots including him jamming with Archie. It must have killed him to not be able to sing.

  9. I have absolutely no idea what they were doing putting ‘Shirlena’ through in the first place. The only reason she was there was for people to laugh at her.

The fact that she apparently actually has real mental illness issues and wasn’t just a flake trying to get some publicity, ought to make Simon Cowell ashamed that he and his programme were so willing to exploit her for that reason: she certainly didn’t have any singing talent.

  10. Great interviews with Lee and Casey. I am looking forward to what is coming next for both those guys.

Congrats to Carrie. I hope she wins.

The Kris and Archie video was fun and them jamming together, priceless. I wish Kris would have gotten to sing but maybe it was a nice change of pace for him to just host.

  11. Casey James really has his head screwed on straight. The guy is a class act.

Yes he does. Casey seems very confident in his musical direction; he’s never waivered from his description of how he will sound, even before his elimination. I can’t wait to find out with whom he’ll be working on his album, and if his brother and drummer will be able to rejoin him as a band.

  12. Hottest Hollywood Teen Princes

Young, handsome, stylish and talented are four adjectives to describe Hollywood teen stars. Such names as Jason Dolley, David Archuleta, Cody Linley, Lucas Till, etc have melted the heart of thousands of teen girls all over the world. Despite being very young at their teen age, they are considered charming princes of Hollywood with admirable achievements. In addition to the endowed talent, these stars are really lucky to possess appealing stylish appearance. The 9X teen boys are the new icons of the world’s entertainment industry.

    3. David Archuleta
Archuleta started singing at age 6 and started performing in public when he was 10 years old. At that time, he participated in talent singing contest in Utah and won the prize for teenagers. At the age of 11, David first appeared on television. He sang the song “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” in the television show by Jenny Jones.

  13. Appears Kris is looking to mix in some more headlining gigs when he goes out on tour with Lifehouse

    (from FaceBook)

Concert Ideas American Idol winner Kris Allen will be taking affordable dates October 21, 22 in the Northeast, and October 27,28 between Georgia and Missouri.

  14. Kris will be taking over the airways at this station tomorrow

  15. Love this quote from Casey with regard to the judges:

I think really it’s about getting someone who has a good personality and knows what they’re talking about and that the general public can believe when they say it’s good or bad. That’s really kind of the point of the show, having people up there pouring their hearts out and having somebody critiquing it.
