America’s Got Talent – Semi-Final Round One

The semi-final round of America’s Got Talent finally began this week. The first 12 acts performed tonight. For the most part, the acts were underwhelming.

With the exception of Michael Grimm, who sang a self-assured version of  Joe Cocker’s “You Can Leave Your Hat On” despite dehydration and strep throat, the rest of the singers were embarrassingly bad.

Singer/songwriter type, Taylor Mathews was even more amateurish and off-key than usual. The two young girls, Christina & Ali, with Cystic Fibrosis were as awful as ever. And Kristina Young’s misguided and horrifying take on Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” should have never seen the light of day, but I still felt bad when the judges ripped into her.

Videos after the JUMP…

And Prince Poppycock? Well, there are no words, really. The arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody” was weird and choppy and changing the last lyric to “Nothing really matters, but me.” What the eff?

The other acts: I still don’t get the Kite Kid, Connor Doran.  Didn’t get the rock and roll electricity act, ArcAttack either.  Kid acts? UGH. Future Funk (cute, but terrible), Anna & Patryk (Good, but I don’t care) go home and play. AscenDance–rock climbing? Zzz. Magician Antonio Restivo…Cheesy! Hilariously bad:  Goth magician, Dan Speery and his lame ass fake arm and his even lamer ass defense of his crappy act.

The 5 acts going through to the Top 10 tomorrow: Michael Grimm, Prince Poppycock, Anna & Patryk for sure.  Maybe Taylor Mathews, Christina & Ali or ArcAttack.
