Idol’s Fantasia rebounds with soul, sass

“You know, sometimes, you have to put yourself first, ” Fantasia proclaims during I’m Doin’ Me, the first track on third studio album Back To Me.

Normally, the line would play like a standard, post-Destiny’s Child assertion of female independence. (Throw ya hands up at me.) But the American Idol 3 winner’s new disc, online and in stores today, has suddenly taken on a deeper meaning. Fantasia was hospitalized earlier this month after overdosing on aspirin and other pills. (Her manager denies a suicide attempt.) This was after being accused in court documents of having an affair with married man Antwuan Cook.

More Headlines after the JUMP…

Is Fantasia Barrino taking the right steps following her suicide attempt?

Before going any further, let me be clear: I don’t think Barrino swallowed all those pills as part of some well-orchestrated promotional plan. But it does seem she may be moving a bit too quickly to jump back into the media spotlight.

In addition to booking those interviews, Barrino also was spotted last week chatting in a North Carolina park with Antwaun Cook, the man whose wife has threatened Barrino with a lawsuit on the grounds that Barrino’s affair with Cook broke up the marriage. While the two engaged in conversation, cameras nearby were capturing all the details, presumably — as People speculates — for future episodes of “Fantasia For Real.”

Her publicist tells E! News the 26-year-old had been sitting at a red light on Ventura Boulevard when another car came around the corner, was blinded by sunlight, and smacked into McPhee’s ride.

X Factor star removed from Miss GB

Eccentric X Factor hopeful Shirlena Johnson has been thrown out of this year’s Miss Great Britain contest after organisers discovered her real age when they watched her TV audition.

Millions of viewers saw Shirlena, a single mother, get through to the boot camp stage of the X Factor on Saturday night after she performed, in leopard skin leggings, a bizarre rendition of the Duffy track Mercy.

Shirlena told the X Factor judges that she was 30, but the age on her online Miss Great Britain form was 28, said a spokeswoman for the contest, which is for those aged 29 and under.

Glee’s Jayma Mays Wants to Sing & Be With Will!

Gleeks out there who were horrified by the doomsday report Ryan Murphy gave my TV diva cohort on the future of Will and Emma, take heart: Jayma Mays is rooting for them to work out!

“There’s definitely still interest there but I think Emma’s trying to be wise and not put all of her eggs in one basket. And I think she’s just allowing herself time to pursue other things and maybe heal herself from her germaphobic tendencies a bit as well, ” she told me at last night’s Audi pre-Emmy bash.

So there’s a chance John Stamos won’t steal her away from Matthew Morrison forever? Jayma, who posed for pics with Matthew last night, said she’s crossing her fingers for Wemma to live happily ever after.

Cory Monteith on His ‘Idiot’ Glee Character, His Two Left Feet and What’s Ahead For Finn Hudson

Like the character he portrays on Fox’s Emmy-nominated gem Glee, Cory Monteith is a paradox. Both awkward and well-rehearsed, the Canadian-born actor had famously never sung in front of a live audience before his audition for Ryan Murphy’s musical series. He never learned how to throw a football before playing star quarterback Finn Hudson. And despite having zero experience dancing, he landed a role on the only scripted series that demands its stars learn new choreography each week.
