Idol Headlines for 05/02/10

Siobhan Magnus explains the ill-fated ‘Teen Idols’ week, takes issue with ‘scream’ label, more at ‘Dream’ house

Nevertheless, we tried to make the most of our time with Siobhan, who was adorably charming in every way — but we already knew that from watching her on the show. So what did we learn about Massachusetts’ first Top 10 contender and the crazy three months she’d just experienced? Plenty.

Starting with the song she was planning on performing for next week’s Frank Sinatra theme: the Sid Vicious version of “My Way.” How much would that have rocked? Or not.

Siobhan’s Post-Idol Plans: Dork Out with Her Boyfriend

She was known for her quirky outfits and kooky charm, but most of all, Siobhan Magnus made her mark by hitting unbelievable closing notes in every performance. She will do so again, no doubt, when the American Idol tour starts up in the summer! PEOPLE talked to Magnus, who was eliminated Wednesday despite a strong performance the night before, about her dream of collaborating with Hanson and Hole, why Lee DeWyze owes her $50 and going home to dork out with her boyfriend. –Cynthia Wang

What’s wrong with American Idol? Nothing

Enough with the hand-wringing.

Ratings are down, catcalls are up and the Idolosphere is a-twitter over how this season’s American Idol talent pool is wallowing in the shallow end.

A four-page lamentation in April 2’s Entertainment Weekly, headlined “Why Can’t The New Idols Sing?, ” blames the dearth of vocal ability on everything from too much guitar strumming to a tired songbook to a surfeit of style at the expense of substance and good-old-fashioned singing ability. All of which is true.

But American Idol, at its core, has always been about finding that one diamond in the rough. Preferably a diamond that is uncut, unpolished and unproven

OK! NEWS: AMERICAN IDOL — WHAT WASN’T ON TV FOR SIOBHAN’S ELIMINATION

When American Idol approached the outrageous singer, she demanded a paycheck of $250, 000 to appear on the hit Fox show. Producers of the show hesitated to pay her that amount of money.

“They thought it was just crazy she was asking for so much money, ” a source tells OK! “It was just too much money to pay talent for a performance.”

Crushes dominate Idol

Well, Siobhan fans — what happened?

I certainly didn’t think her take on Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine” was bulletproof, but I would rather see what Siobhan’s going to do next week than say, Aaron Kelly.

Memo to CUTEBOT-2500: Changing one line of “You’ve Got a Way, ” Shania’s ode to her partner’s devotion and sweet lovemaking does not make it less creepy when you dedicate the song to Mommy.

Women of America/Planet OMG!: Please stop trying to make Aaron our next “American Idol.” You may think he’s adorable, precious or super-dreamy, but you’re just creeping the rest of us out. Do the 17-year-old a favor, let him go home so he can mature and develop his talent, and perhaps have a longer career than some discount Disney teen pop star.

Jordin Sparks review: Wolf Den show deserved a larger audience

It took a while for the crowd at Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den to realize they were seeing a fantastic show.

But Jordin Sparks delivered a set Saturday that was not only arena-level entertaining, but both pitch-perfect and dynamically sung. And the crowd would just have to keep up with her.

The first stop on her Battlefield tour, Sparks’ show was clearly meant for a bigger and more enthusiastic audience than those packed into the Den, but that didn’t keep her or her band from enjoying themselves throughout the one-hour show.

Stars clamour for Glee glitter

THEY have been dismissed as “karaoke fodder” and pilloried for “lip-synched insincerity”. Yet the singers and dancers of Glee, America’s latest television phenomenon, have turned into a goldmine for some of the world’s best-known pop stars.

Despite mixed reviews and modest television audiences, the series has become a music industry powerhouse, outstripping popular reality shows such as American Idol and Dancing with the Stars in its power to sell records and revive public interest in the singers and songwriters of bygone decades.

VIDEO: Lea Michele Not Ready to Go Naked for PETA

Going nude for PETA campaigns is all the rage, but ‘Glee’ star Lea Michele says she’s perfectly happy with her fully-clothed work for the animal rights group. For now.

Michele did a rather conservative PETA ad and tells PopEater that a racier campaign is something she might do in the future.

“I have a couple of years ahead of me to do stuff like that, ” she says. “Who knows what I’ll do in the future with them.”
