More than a dozen concerts from her Battlefield Tour itinerary have been rescheduled for summer or cancelled outright, and several others are still awaiting a final decision.

The tour will not officially launch until June 1, though some spring performances remain on the books.

According to Spark’s official Web site, the changes are the result of “an effort to bring [the tour] to more cities throughout the country.” More tour dates are expected in the near future, with the summer 2010 routing eventually hitting about 35 national markets.

Why Shania Twain makes a great ‘American Idol’ theme

I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that Shania Twain will return to American Idol as a mentor this season. I’ve long thought she was one of the smartest, savviest entertainers around — traits she showed during her stint as a guest judge earlier this season.

Even better, Twain’s songs are uniquely suited the Idol format.

What Will Crystal Bowersox’s Album Sound Like?

Whether or not Crystal Bowersox delivered the best performance in “American Idol” history, there is one thing that is clear: She is the obvious frontrunner and the favorite to win. She has rarely had a misstep and manages to step up a notch or two with each passing week. And even if somebody like Lee DeWyze comes up from behind to top her in the final, there’s no doubt we will be getting excited about Bowersox’s debut album by the time the holidays roll around.

Dish of Salt Interview with Tim Urban

Tim Urban looks back on his time in ‘La-La Land’

Call him what you will — Teflon Tim, the Comeback Kid, Turban, Big Head Tim (we just made that one up!) — but having extended his “Idol” stay far longer than anyone would have imagined, Tim Urban will go down as one of the most resilient contestants the show’s ever seen. So what did the Duncanville, Texas, native do with all that extra time in L.A.? Not too much sightseeing around our neighborhoods, apparently, but he’s on intimate terms with the Grove. More from 20-year-old Tim, who heaps praise on some of his biggest critics: the judges, in our ‘La-La Land’ questionnaire…

It’s no secret that Adam Lambert was the ONE person I wanted to interview this year at EQ and I was very lucky enough to get ten minutes with the glam pop rock superstar to talk about all sorts of things that is going on is his big world – from his recent encounter with Boy George in London, to working with Sam Sparro, to his current hit single “Whatya Want From Me” to his thoughts on being out in the music business. I hope you enjoy this interview with Adam Lambert and you can bet that you’ll see me at his UK shows this weekend as the UK finally gets a taste for Glambert live. Enjoy.

I am checking in from LA today, and I’ve had some good writing sessions this week already. I worked with Guy Chambers, who wrote Angels with Robbie Williams, and Erika Nuri from The Writing Camp. I also had writing sessions last week with Sam Hollander and Sluggo, who my friend Travis from We The Kings actually told me about because he has worked a lot with them. I also worked with a bunch of other really great writers, who you’ve probably seen me talk about on Twitter. But I actually have another writing session today with the Nexus lol. And I’ll let you guys know how that goes too!

Interview with Danny Gokey for his last second Wild Bill’s gig; ‘Idol Gives Back’ raises $45 million so far

His single “The Best Days Are Ahead Of Me” is edging up the charts. He is deeply aware of its slow but steady progress. He is also happy with CD sales (now up to 130, 000) but said to get it much higher, he’s going to need a single to go top 10. It’s still a long slog for “Best Days, ” which is at No. 26 on the Mediabase 24/7 country charts today, up 58 spins over the previous week.

“You have to win the gatekeepers, ” he said, referencing the program directors at each country radio station. (Most are now playing the song, including 94.9/The Bull and Kicks 101.5. so at this stage, the stations are basing spins on how the song does with call-out research and requests. So far, plenty of stations are playing it once or twice a day. Once they sense a song has built hit-like momentum, they will up a song to four spins or more a day.)

  2. That EQ interview with Adam is really good. Really drills down into some depth. Thanks for posting it MJ.

  3. just listening to the new version of TT with Pat Mohagan… i’m not happy! he doesn’t add anything and it’s not even a duet! WTF!!

just listening to the new version of TT with Pat Mohagan… i’m not happy! he doesn’t add anything and it’s not even a duet! WTF!!

If they are going to release The Truth as the next single, I hope they go with the one on the album. I had been hoping that BWCU was going to be his next single but with all the rumors I have listened to TT more often and have come to love Kris’ voice on it.

Please don’t put this one to radio!

  5. I’m reading the comments on Kris’s official site about the new version of The Truth, and agree with most of them in saying that this new version is not good. First of all, Kris’s and Pat’s voices don’t mesh great. More importantly, why is PAT, not Kris, singing the bridge? Just a big fat NO in terms of using this version as the single. Either use the original album version, or, even betterm, dont release The Truth as a single at all.

    YIKES

  6. I am not getting why they even had him sing that small part. It’s a total WTF? moment on the song. Does he sing more than that one part that I am missing? Was FT. Pat Monahan supposed to sell the song? What? I am confused.

I heard both version. I don’t think either one is all that great, but this less so. LLWD was a total earworm. I forgot this as soon as it was over. The only thing I can remember is something about an elephant in the room.

While I am bitching about new songs- I finally heard Kelly’s in the car today. It is truly awful, sounds like Pink, and gets on my very last nerve even listening to it

  7. Ok, I am not really much of a Kris fan, but, seriously, why would they do that? Pat adds nothing to the song (but, I guess, a name, although not really a big one), and really, if I was Kris I would be a little insulted.

Edited because this must be strictly to sell the single on Itunes—they can put (feat Pat Monyhan) after Kris’s name in hopes it pulls more people in. Jive kinda sucks.

  8. I really like The Truth – orginal version. But this version is HORRIFYING – I can not even.

Why do this??? Pat (whose voice I actually like elsewhere) sounds terrible singing the part of the song that Kris completely nailed. GRR!

  9. Ha! I had to look up who Pat Monahan was. I need to hear this new version before I call it a good idea. On paper it looks like a money maker, with both Train and Kris having hit songs right now.

Would love to hear a Kris Allen version of Hey Soul Sister!

  10. This new version of The Truth doesn’t make any sense at all. Kris totally nailed the bridge in the original, it’s the main reason why I like the song. Pat’s vocals on the bridge are so jarring that I can’t even focus on what he is saying, so that part loses all of its impact. I don’t know what Jive is thinking. It’s not even like having Pat’s name on the song is going to mean a lot to people. I don’t think too many people are going to buy the song just because the guy from Train is on it.

  11. I really like The Truth – orginal version. But this version is HORRIFYING – I can not even.

Just listened and I agree. Yuck. I can understand them wanting to sell the song as a single using Pat Monahan, but since it’s not on Kris’s album it certainly isn’t going to help push him in that department. And I kind of thought that was the point of releasing new singles.

And seriously, it’s kind of like a slap in face to Kris. Like saying, hey, you’re not good enough to release this song on your own, but if we put somebody better in it, we think it will be a hit. Considering how well LLWD did with just Kris singing, I’m a bit shocked they’d do something like this.

  12. OMG you guys…. I’m seriously in tears..=( Sounds like Pat smokes 3 packs a day next to Kris’ beautiful voice… I’m so horrified right now…. JUST NOOOOOO !!! How could they….even…… ugghhhh…… please let me be sleeping right now……

  13. the changes are the result of “an effort to bring [the tour] to more cities throughout the country.”

LOL obviously. Because canceling shows means more cities.
I thought Jordin’s album sales were enough to tell that Jordin does not have people interested in her.

  14. Okay, I’ve heard it and it’s a nice sounding song. This version erases the doubts I had when The Truth was mentioned as the next single. Could be a nice match as Train and Kris are the same genre and hopefully fans will cross over.

I’m still against these types of singles because that version isn’t on the album that they’re trying to sell. Good thing Kris’s album version is also a great track!

  15. I’m bringing my comment from the other thread as this is a newer one-

Wow. Jive are seriously delusional if they think this updated version of Truth is better & the comments on KAO agree – not one positive comment on Pat’s vocals- musically it doesn’t make sense – a random different voice on the bridge that is no way as good as Kris’s original version. Why not just shorten the version – what’s with having to include Pat? The fans have definitely spoken on this – maybe this is why its taken so long to release a single- Kris does not agree on this new version I wouldn’t blame him. I like the original version of this song- don’t try & reinvent something that’s good to start with!!

  16. Except for Pat singing in the bridge I don’t think I would have noticed him in the background at all. But weird, just weird. I don’t like it. I kind of get what they are going for in a business sense, Timbaland featuring JT and all those mashup artist type songs, but it doesn’t make sense for this song. It didn’t need fixing.

  17. Bringing over my comment to.

I am wondering if Kris should maybe change management like Jordin did… they just don’t seem to make good decisions for him.

  18. Except for Pat singing in the bridge I don’t think I would have noticed him in the background at all. But weird, just weird. I don’t like it. Pat aint no Timbaland or JT. It’s not going to work that way.

  19. I am wondering if Kris should maybe change management like Jordin did… they just don’t seem to make good decisions for him.

This is not a management decision by 19, but a label decision by Jive. Jordin is also still with Jive.

ETA: My other thought moved to the Kris thread.

  20. It’s like a “stunt single.” They did the same thing adding Katy Perry to an existing 3OH!3 track and that seemed to sell well. But in that case, the new version improved on the original. I agree that this version doesn’t add any real improvements. But, it still sounds nice and I hope it sells big! I like the ‘elephant in the room lyric.’ :)

    Bringing over my comment to.

I am wondering if Kris should maybe change management like Jordin did… they just don’t seem to make good decisions for him.

I so agree. Whoever is making some of these decisions, whether Jive or 19, they don’t seem to be working in Kris’ best interests. He deserves better.

  22. They did the same thing adding Katy Perry to an existing 3OH!3 track and that seemed to sell well.

These things happen. But usually they add something new to the song, make it better or it’s a name people recognize. Unless they’re going to say Kris with Train, I don’t know who will recognize this guy’s name. When I read it I thought that would be a woman, and I was excited to hear the male/female duet, obviously it wasn’t anything like what I was expecting.

  23. Isn’t this the same thing that happened with David Cook? Didn’t they release two of the songs he didn’t co-write on? I wonder if the record companies make these deals ahead of time to get certain artists to contribute their songs? What Idol has had success with songs they have written? Kelly and Daughtry?

I know everyone is “hiring a rapper” right now to contribute on their singles to possibly get airplay from rhythmic-leaning pop stations and increase sales. I don’t understand why having Pat M. sing the bridge would help Kris with the stations this song is already targeted to. Very strange.

  24. This is just weird to me. Kris’s single, all by himself, sold really well, so why do they feel the need to add someone else to the song? I agree that this feels like a slap in the face to Kris. I almost want the song to fail, just to say screw you to the label, but I want Kris to succeed. It’s just disrespectful to those of us looking in from the outside.

My husband never did understand that either. He likes other songs on Cook’s album much better. When they showed David singing the other night on IGB, hubby said- “That’s one of the songs that David wrote that they should have used for radio”. I keep him updated on the new album news that I read here. :)

I like all the other songs on Cook’s album 100000x better. It makes me sad. I hope Lee gets to write all the songs on his album to avoid this. Lee is a fantastic song-writer.

  34. seriously

If David Cook and Kris didn’t get to write their own songs by themselves, Lee won’t be allowed to, either. At best, he’ll get what they did, which is co-writes on most of the songs — only to be release and 1st (and probably 2nd) single written by someone other than himself

Yah. That sux. Cook didn’t even have co-writes on LO or CBTM. Cook did write A Daily Anthem all by himself before Idol in 2006. Although that wouldn’t have been a good single. That’s the only one he wrote all by himself. (Neal helped him write KOTN.)

I hope Kris has a co-write on his second single. (I also hope Jive doesn’t screw him over with his second single like they did Archie)

  38. I loved what Adam responded with regarding Ricky coming out:

“I really really think that at the end of the day, it’s up to the person. It’s their decision – it’s their prerogative. It has nothing to do with the community. It’s a personal choice. I think there is a lot of pressure that certain [long pause] bloggers and what not put on other artists to be open about their sexuality. And really – it’s personal. I don’t understand why people are so entitled to know what other’s sexual preferences are – it seems ridiculous to me.

It’s like in a way it makes it even more sensationalized than it would be otherwise. It puts this added pressure and big flashing lights around the whole subject.”

  39. Have to say the more Tim interviews the more I like him. He really is dumb like fox. Meaning he is not. I like his stance against Vote for the Worst. I have this strange feeling he is going to do very well for himself in the entertainment field. I hope.

It is really nice to read all the good comments for Tim. He will be one of the popular idols in the tour. It is possible for someone like Tim to be more successfull than someone like Casey.

Sorry, but I don’t understand how someone like Casey with the guitar skills, and voice and looks, can be so void of charisma. I hope that Casey will bring it next week. Take a chance with the song choice. I’m not even a fan, but it kills me that someone just doesn’t even try to be impressive.

  40. Well at least they used Adam’s version of FYE instead of the DWTS version. But it sure didn’t help Kate’s dancing. I actually feel kinda bad for her.

I don’t feel sorry for Kate one bit. She was such a beyotch on the show, and she blamed it on Tony that she wasn’t learning her dance. She’s another Billy Ray Cyrus who can’t dance for beans. At least BRC was a nice guy and tried.

  41. Carrie’s tour continues to get rave reviews. For her Grand Rapids concert:

Review: Carrie Underwood proves one of the finest singers in any genre at Van Andel concert

    Excerpt:

GRAND RAPIDS — Other than being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, being named Entertainer of the Year would probably be country music’s highest honor.

Country superstar Carrie Underwood holds both of those distinctions and in her triumphant return to the Van Andel Arena Friday night, the 2005 American Idol winner demonstrated just why she is deserving of her countless industry awards.

    …..

The multiplatinum artist was in top form vocally. Plain and simple, Carrie Underwood is one of the finest singers in any genre, and she demonstrated her immense vocal talent many times during the evening

  42. YES YES YES! Keith and Kris dueting on acoustic version of Boys of Summer — and it sounds like someone was able to video it!

I hope so – would love to see that!

  43. Sounds like Jordin is having trouble with her tour, she probably doesn’t have a solid enough fanbase to headline her own tour.

  44. Some chart numbers for WWFM on Itunes around the world. Adam is #7 in Germany! I don’t even know if he has had his official launch there, and the UK one is going on right now, but I think the single isn’t officially released yet:

    Country- Overall/Pop

    US- #10/#5
    UK- #51/#29
    Germany- #7/#4
    Australia- #7-/#5
    Canada- #16/#11

  45. Anyone going to see David Cook and band in Utah in June?
Sounds like fun- Soccer game and a concert!
Did you folks read the tweets about the Nashville recording mix with Tom Douglas and a Dioguardi/Cook penned tune being used for a salsa singer?

  46. Did you folks read the tweets about the Nashville recording mix with Tom Douglas and a Dioguardi/Cook penned tune being used for a salsa singer?

is that what its being used for?

  47. Sorry, I forgot to add the name! It is Frankie Negron (the salsa singer, that is.)
Thanks for that link wellhesback, I never get tired of watching that video! That song really needs to be honored in their live shows; maybe someday he’ll feel differently about performing them.( I love Straight Ahead and WOHWWS, but do they always have to be the lone solo project songs of his we hear? Jeesh! )…..I’m just joking; he’s probably afraid that if they start playing other AH songs, everyone who isn’t already familiar with that material
will start asking him why he doesn’t write songs like those anymore, and we would say “eat that, RCA!”

  48. So what is the reason for canceling Jordin’s tour? Tickets weren’t selling? Anybody?

  49. I don’t think 19/RCA is against idols writing their own singles per se since Daughtry managed to be on his first 2… in fact I think he wrote Home all by himself.

And we do know that they sent 3 DCTR songs out for testing, 2 of which DC co-wrote.

This may be just how the chips fell.

But ITA about The Truth. I think because Pat Monahan has a hit song right now, and he also wrote The Truth, the label is trying to capitalize on that. But there are better single choices on the album IMO. Sigh.
