John Fogerty to Join Carrie Underwood for ACM Performance

Put him in, coach. He’s ready to play. That’s what I keep thinking now that I know John Fogerty is going to be performing with Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley on the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night (April 18). I don’t know exactly what they’re going to sing together, just that the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will be joining country’s finest for what will be a showstopper.

Kris Allen — A Window Into My Crotch

After getting through his first set without any hardware malfunctions

Check out his reaction when someone in the audience tells him to XYZ — priceless.

Is reality-show voting rigged? Well, sort of …

Television’s latest, greatest mystery isn’t about how “Lost” will end, or whether anyone on “American Idol” will finally show some personality. Instead, it’s this: Just how in the world is Kate Gosselin still on “Dancing With the Stars”?

Weekly, Gosselin’s dancing has dismayed even elephants. Yet, week after week she keeps coming back despite dismal ratings from judges.

Such behavior has raised a few eyebrows, ones that usually lift after the finale of “American Idol, ” when an Adam Lambert loses to a Kris Allen. But “Dancing’s” higher (and “Idol”-surpassing) recent ratings, along with Gosselin’s strange success, have made it a magnet for attention. Could someone be cooking those votes?

Forget Simon — ‘Idol’s’ all about Ryan now

The underlying story on “American Idol” this season is the pending departure of Simon Cowell, the acerbic British judge who has been the face of the show since his first withering takedown of a quivering-lipped auditioner eight years ago. Speculation has naturally centered on his replacement, with the implied assumption that the new Simon will play as critical a role as the current one does.

Forget it. There’s no chance his replacement is going to be Howard Stern or any other big name who would seize the spotlight. It’s already apparent what “Idol” is going to be once Simon is gone next year: The Ryan Seacrest show.

CARRIE’S “PLAY ON TOUR” TO CONTINUE WITH ADDITIONAL SHOWS THROUGH END OF 2010

Ever the charitable soul, Underwood will be donating 36 cents of every ticket sold for the fall tour dates to Save the Children’s United States Programs. This initiative was inspired by the “36 cents” written in the lyrics of her album track “Change” which addresses how even the smallest bit of spare change that one might have can add up to make a difference and help “change” the world. Fans can see Underwood perform this song, “Change, ” on Idol Gives Back this Wednesday, April 21 on FOX. Save the Children is also a beneficiary of Idol Gives Back, and is the leading independent organization creating real and lasting change for children in need in the United States and around the world.

Tickets for the newly announced fall dates will go on sale beginning Saturday, April 24th at 10am – please see local venues for specific information. The “Play On Tour” is Presented by AEG Live.

Now, the girl from Oklahoma is poised to have a big night at the Academy of Country Music Awards this Sunday.

Friday ACM Rehearsal Not-Quite-Live Blog: Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, and Reba

6:28 p.m. Just learned that the Miranda/Carrie number I saw the stand-ins rehearsing before dinner is a cover of a John Fogerty song. And you might recall that Miranda Lambert at one point had a Fogerty cover in her set list. And you might be able to divine from that information what song she and Carrie are doing. And you might recall a little something about John Fogerty being a part of the show this year. And now your interest might be piqued.

7:53 p.m. Carrie starts her first run of “Temporary Home.” She’s wearing a plaid shirt, jeans, boots, and standing planted strong in the center of the stage, belting it out. The outfit doesn’t match the song, but her voice sure does. I have never once seen Carrie Underwood pull back vocally just because she’s in rehearsal. Rehearsal is for chumps. Do, or do not — there is no try for Carrie Underwood.

8:03 p.m. Carrie is laying into “Temporary Home” with such force that the microphone actually shorts out briefly. I’m taking that as a sign that my night here is done. Carrie won’t be doing interviews, nor will Rascal Flatts, who are the last act scheduled for today. Meanwhile, there’s a party on Fremont Street and I want to go see Lady Antebellum rock their neon socks off.

It’s early evening in Las Vegas and the remaining contestants have pushed past ballroom and are now on to broadway with Emmy-winning choreographer Tyce Diorio, assisted by Season 4 standout, Courtney Galiano.

Galiano has not been named as a returning all-star for Season 7, but executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe did tell me Thursday that there are more slots open, so it’s still a possibility.
