Bloomberg lets his ‘Hair’ down in hippie garb, hangs out with cast of Broadway play at fund-raiser

The city’s typically buttoned-down chief executive, fresh off beating term limits, took on hair extensions for his ’60s flashback with the cast of “Hair” at Saturday night’s Inner Circle dinner.

Earlier at rehearsals, Bloomberg joked with former “American Idol” singers Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young, showing off his bell-bottomed jeans and flashing a peace sign.

Despite the dramatic change in appearance, Bloomberg’s long-haired production won’t eclipse the most stunning mayoral performance ever.

Kids Choice Awards Red Carpet: Allison Iraheta Talks Top 10, ‘Slumdog’ Star on His Next Role

Still, Iraheta’s making time to bond with ‘American Idol”s new top 10 finalists — not to mention offer a little advice, and send a big message. “I was hanging with [the Idols] … at … the top 10 party, ” she said. “I was telling them to be true to themselves, [that’s] what’s going to help them. … They’re real — all of them. I really hope the girls take it this year. C’mon girls! Represent.”

“Crystal [Bowersox] … is amazing — home girl with the dreads, ” Iraheta gushed. “I love her guitar playing, she’s really cool.” The ‘Idol’ alum also cautioned the remaining finalists to up the ante. “All of them can sing, ” she said. “‘Idol”s seen everything now. I think they want something different.” Repetition notwithstanding, the juggernaut won a Kids Choice Award for favorite reality show.

Elliston Idol: Friends, family and fans cheer Bowersox on from afar

Drive about six miles west of Oak Harbor along Ohio 163, past cornfields and power poles that serve as the only landmarks, and you’ll encounter the one clue identifying the unincorporated map dot of Elliston.

It’s a nondescript road sign labeled “Elliston-Trowbridge, ” with signs beneath it pointing to two churches.

‘Me & Bobby McGee’: The Story Behind Crystal Bowersox’s Cover

Once again, one of the highlights of Tuesday night’s episode of “American Idol” — which was focused on songs that had hit No. 1 on the pop charts — was Crystal Bowersox’s performance. Armed with her trusty guitar and her disarming voice, the rocker sang “Me and Bobby McGee, ” which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971.

Tyler Grady goes ‘Idol’ one better

Tyler Grady of Nazareth, who got farther along on ”American Idol” than any other contestant from Lehigh or Northampton County when he made the show’s Top 24 this spring, on Friday played his first post-”Idol” show with his band, Wailing Waters, at Riverside Barr & Grill in Lower Mount Bethel Township.

And the show had enough ironies to fill an Alanis Morissette song:

Isn’t it ironic that, after being among the first four finalists voted off a show in which contestants sing cover songs, Grady did his best singing on cover tunes?

Kelly Clarkson in a minute

On stage, my show is pretty eclectic. The production is there to compliment and enhance each song, and my band and I are pretty energetic and have a great time with every audience.

I’ve never been to SA and I’m so excited to not only visit and be a tourist but to play some shows and interact with my fans.

Before any show, my band and I pray and give thanks for having such rad jobs and people to hang out with, and I also have personalised “high five” rituals with each member of my band and crew.

Ukulele rides new wave

FORT WORTH, Texas – After years of plunking happily away on the fringes, the ukulele is now falling into the arms of everyone from Taylor Swift, Jason Mraz and “American Idol” contestants to local bands like Matthew and the Arrogant Sea.

You can hear it in high-school classrooms and in living rooms across the U.S. And in late April, Dallas will host the first-ever Lone Star Uke Fest.

“There’s nothing better than strumming on a ukulele. It really has the sound and the spirit of joy. Everybody needs one, ” says Jason Castro of Rowlett, the dreadlocked fourth-place finalist from “American Idol’s” seventh season.

Simon Cowell and fiancee Mezghan shop for classic cars…and frozen yoghurt

Having been told he’s to be given a prestigious award, you can hardly blame Simon Cowell for treating himself to a little something.

But while most people would celebrate with a nice meal out with their family or possibly a new outfit, the X Factor boss went looking for a new set of wheels.

Just days after being told he is to be honoured with an International Emmy award in recognition of his television work, Cowell, 50, was snapped out with fiancee Mezghan Hussainy looking at fancy motors.

Nicole Scherzinger Talks DWTS, Marriage and Making Babies With Derek Hough

Nicole Scherzinger has been dating champion race-car driver Lewis Hamilton for about two years, but that doesn’t mean she’s anxious for him to put a ring on it.

“The guy who marries me is going to be with me forever because I’m very traditional, ” the Pussycat Dolls singer, 31, tells me. “There’s no rush. I just want to make sure it’s the right time for everything. And I’m also really married to my work. It takes up all of my time.”

And that work now includes competing on the new season of Dancing With the Stars.

Bumped off! X Factor to dump pregnant Dannii Minogue (Paula May Take Her Place)

Producer Simon Cowell can’t see a way Kylie’s little sister can be a judge as her baby is due in July – right in the middle of auditions.

He is said to be in a quandary about what to do – and looking at ways of offering the 38-year-old a scaled-back role on The X Factor when it returns in the autumn.

But he believes it is unrealistic to think mum-to-be Dannii can do the show and is already considering possible replacements as part of a radical shake-up of the smash hit series.

We can also reveal that Cowell, 50, will hire his 36-year-old fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy as the show’s make-up artist.

Top of the list of people to replace Dannii is Paula Abdul, 47, who notched up eight years as a judge on Cowell’s American Idol before quitting last August.

Paula Abdul pokes fun at self, denies Broadway run, loves Siobhan

All kidding aside, earlier on the pink carpet, Paula denied recent rumors (thanks, Perez) that she’s looking at Broadway as her next career move; specifically, the musical “In The Heights.” As for a possible judging spot on Simon Cowell’s “The X-Factor”? “We’ll have to see on that, ” she told reporters.

Naturally, we also had Season 9 on the brain, like Andrew Garcia’s take on her hit “Straight Up.” “It was fun, ” she said. Paula’s stand-outs so far? “There’s that quirky girl, Siobhan [Magnus] — love her!” she told Idol Tracker. “And Crystal [Bowersox] is wonderful too.” Asked whether either or both were too oddball for “Idol, ” Paula answered, “Talent is talent.”

Concert Review: Daughtry Played The Dark Knight At MGM Grand

At Foxwood’s MGM Grand Theater on Saturday night, vocalist/guitarist Chris Daughtry was playing the part of Batman ? or at least he was trying to.

It was quite fitting, actually, and not just because he and his band took the stage to 1989’s Batman theme. For five years, Daughtry has truly been hard rock’s dark knight ? an American Idol season 5 castoff whose lovelorn lyrics, muscle-bound guitar and bad-boy swagger made him into a music industry hero. His debut album became the fastest-selling rock debut in history, sold over 4 million copies, was the top seller of 2007 and earned 4 Grammy nominations. Men have cheered, women have swooned, and kids can’t sit still. Sounds pretty heroic, no?

Ace Young Happy to Get Naked on Stage

Former American Idol finalist Ace Young may be used to performing in front of a live audience, but now he’s doing it eight times a week completely naked!

“It’s so freeing, ” the Colorado native says of Hair’s infamous group nude scene.

Young, 29, premiered with fellow former Idol Diana DeGarmo in the Broadway musical earlier this month. “If I could walk down 42nd Street with a bar of soap and let the rain clean me, I would, ” he says. “I’m comfortable with my body.”

Siobhan Magnus rising to pop stardom

In an interview for “American Idol” Magnus said she’s been forced to take on responsibilities in her life, and has good practice handling pressure.

Her father, Alan, said he doesn’t want to “work this into a sob story” but like all families they’ve had hard times.

A local rock musician, Alan is disabled following accidents as a truck driver. His wife, Colleen, was recently laid off after many years working at Border’s Books, Alan said.

As a teenager, Siobhan took on the role of caring for her two little sisters, Ceili, now 10, and Azora, 8.

Partially because of her little sisters, Magnus became a feminist in high school.

“She would always say how much she wanted to go out and talk to girls, especially because of her two little sisters, ” Bonina said.
