David Cook, Megan Joy – Better Than Ezra Foundation Benefit

Jeff Beninato | NewOrleans.Com

David Cook and Megan Joy performed at last night’s Better than Ezra Foundation benefit in New Orleans.

David joined Better Than Ezra on stage for “Absolutely Still”. He also sang “Avalanche”, a song he wrote with ETE member,   Kevin Griffin.  The crowd sang along with David’s next song, “Living on a Prayer”.

Also, Kevin Griffin announced that David would be leaving for Africa “tomorrow.”  That would be today–David tweeted his goodbye this morning, “Goin’ on the fly-fly, so I’ll be out of commission for a bit.”

Megan Joy also sang onstage with Better Than Ezra. She tweeted: “Mornin guys!! Layover in Dallas with @canchop! Next stop New Orleans!! About to sing!!! Ahhh back on stage…. Feels soooooo good. And uh…. Singing my own songs!? DREAMS COME TRUE.”

She sang 3 songs–First, her tune with BTE, her self-penned  Boy Next Door, and Black Horse and the Cherry Tree.

Megan and David both tried their hand at bowling–check out David’s prowess with the pins after the jump…

UPDATE: Nice recap of the event HERE.  Photos from New Orleans.com HERE.  Performances after the Jump, including “Absolutely Still”, “Avalanche”, “Living on a Prayer”.  Plus, David Cook bowls and helps out at the auction.  Megan Joy performs with BTE.  High Quality vids of much of the concert from vmrocks.

  1. I hope better audio quality vids pop up – I want some new MP3s! I loved the DC and Kevin harmonies from the acoustic version and now I want a full band version!

For Megan, I think the first song she sang is an original, but I don’t think it is one she uploaded online before.

Also, I remember I read in headlines at some point that a snippet of her song “Boy Next Door” was actually played on a TV show. How cool for her, when that song isn’t even out!

Don’t know if the clip was ever posted, but someone uploaded it. It is from ABC’s “The Deep End.”

  2. It looks like a great event. Thanks for all the links. I think more videos will start to show up as the day goes on for both performances and hopefully for BTE as well.

  3. I was there last night. (I took those twitvids of Megan’s songs.)

I wasn’t at the bowling so I cannot comment on that.

Before the show, people were checking out the silent auction, and taking advantage of the open bar and buffet. David and Monty were walking around checking out the auction items, and taking pictures with people. Megan was hanging out with girls, whom I am guessing were probably in her bowling team earlier that day.

Tyler Hilton opened the show, then Ryan Cabrera played. Ryan was very good. I’d pay money to see him again. The act right before BTE was a local pop-punk band called “The Vets.” The singer was dressed like Ke$ha complete with an indian headdress. Ugh. That was unfortunate because they were actually GOOD. In between the acts, they live-auctioned a bunch of stuff to benefit the BTE Foundation which is helping the Gulf Coast region rebuild after Katrina. An evening with the Saints on the season opening night (dinner for 2, tix for the 50 yard line, family tent pass, limo ride and party afterwards with the players) went for $3,500. The BTE private concert (they will come to your backyard) went for $32,500. I placed bids on some silent auction items but was handily outbid by local young professionals.

The audience was probably 40 % BTE fans (who know all the lyrics to all the songs) and 60 % local “young professionals” who’s got money to spend on the auction. It was half men and half women.

Coming out of the incredible football season, the whole show had lots of Saints references. David came out when they were auctioning off the Saints-edition golf carts (I forgot how much it went for) to help rally the crowd. EVERYONE on and off stage started singing “Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints” and poor David had no clue. LOL. He said “um. sorry. I’m from Kansas City.”

Finally, BTE came on stage and started their very interactive and entertaining show. After 3 or 4 songs, Kevin Griffin brought Megan Joy out on stage. She sounded GREAT, and she commanded the stage really well. Her voice carried well over the loud guitar and super powerful drums. The crowd LOVED her.

Then BTE did some more songs, a few things were auctioned off, then David came on. He sang Absolutely Still with Kevin and the band. For Avalanche, Monty took over the base from BTE’s bassist. David sounded amazing, but he always does. Then everyone except for David left the stage and he did Living on a Prayer. The entire audience sang along. This was really nice – the crowd is not David’s typical audience. It was 50 % men, lots of older men and women who are there to support the cause rather than to see a rock show. It was an open bar event so there were lots of jolly drunk people.

BTE ended the show with great energy. They really DO put on a great show.

After the show was over, people were still milling around to check on the silent auction and stuff. As my friend and I made our way toward the door, we ran into Monty and David. My friend thanked David for coming to New Orleans for the cause and told him that it really means a lot to us. He spontaneously gave her a hug and told us to drive home safely. What a seriously nice guy. She told him to have a safe trip to Africa, then he said he doesn’t have to drive so he was going to party some more.

  4. yf7184 Thank you so much for your awesome vids. I was so happy someone captured Megan’s set because I don’t think she’s performed any of her originals live before.

I also really enjoyed reading your recap! I love it when great causes are mixed in with great events.

  5. After 3 or 4 songs, Kevin Griffin brought Megan Joy out on stage. She sounded GREAT, and she commanded the stage really well. Her voice carried well over the loud guitar and super powerful drums. The crowd LOVED her.

Aww, love reading that. Megan looks sooooo much more comfortable in what she’s doing in these new videos than when I saw her in that weird pink Barbie outfit on the AI tour.

  6. yf7184, THANKS for the detailed recap! Sounds like it was a blast.

LOL, I hope someone got vid of this…

  7. Love the videos. David looked so happy.

$6,800 for the Saints golf cart. Heh.

That part comes at 6:02/6:26 about the singing and KC stuff. Hilarious. Kevin Griffin cracks me up. He and David seem like good friends. Heh.

  8. Haha now I see the vid and remember David giving Keving a middle finger. – It’s at 6:45 mark. I think Kevin made fun of the chiefs or something along that line.

  9. The video was funny and the pan down to the boots cracked me up. : ) We have an endless fascination with his footwear.

  10. 123abc456, THANK YOU so much for that auction vid. I think that’s the best non-singing video of DC that I’ve ever seen.

  11. Kevin making fun of the Chiefs reminds me of that vlog David did in the studio with him and when David joked about the Chiefs being in the Superbowl next year you can see Kevin busting out laughing. LMAO at David giving him the finger though <3 him.

So now is he going straight to Africa today? Based on his tweet and stuff that was said last night that's the impression I'm getting..rather than going to DC first? And where was Neal flying to last night? I figured DC..confused.

  12. awwww I don’t care if Dave is or isn’t a good bowler (hee). It’s great to see these guys doing this for a good cause.

  13. You guys have high standards! David’s bowling didn’t look too bad to me at all. He’s not REALLY good, but he definitely looks like an above average bowler to me. Maybe it’s cuz I’m really bad, and my friends who I think are pretty good bowl around what he does.

Trina, seems like no DC briefing for DC (heh)? Maybe Neal got briefed instead, since David had to be in NO last night? I dunno though.

  14. yf7184, thanks for your awesome recap! I’ll try to watch vids later. I did watch the bowling one earlier which was fun. :D

DC takes his sports pretty seriously.

ETA: he does look pretty skinny up on that stage.

  15. Thanks for this thread MJ! showcases just how cool David Cook is. Neat to see Cookie looking happy and wonderful that he actually sang those 3 special songs, when advance word had it he might not perform, just bowl.
Thanks also to yf7184 for the recap! Happy for you!

  16. Great thread. Thanks for all the pics and links.

DC has lost weight. He wore that shirt to the NYE gig in January and he was almost bustin out of it. Now the same shirt hangs from his frame.

This week has been chock full for DC. MWK gig, BTE Event and now off to Africa.

  17. DC has lost weight. He wore that shirt to the NYE gig in January and he was almost bustin out of it. Now the same shirt hangs from his frame.

I think he’s lost quite a bit of weight if he looks that thin in pics. When I kinda sorta met him (briefly) way back… hmm, last March? April? One thing that I noticed right away was that he looked much smaller in person. Well, and younger. He made me feel like a dirty old woman and I’m only 36. Ha!

  18. Thanks Sasha nice video and much clearer audio, love the harmonies.

  19. Oooh, thanks SashaB, that was much better – and now I’m going to have to go listen to it… again. Heh. Beautiful harmonies.

  20. I just woke up from a much needed nap and saw the new video posted for “Absolutely Still”. What a nice wake-up call.

  21. LOL At Kevin “They need the wins” and then David totally flips him off.

  22. @unfoundation @thedavidcook Can’t wait to travel to Africa w/ you this week & show you our work w/ adolescent girls! Are ur bags (mostly) packed? :)

    @thedavidcook @unfoundation I’m as ready as I can be.

    Guess he hasn’t left yet.

  23. That auction video was just about the best 9 minutes of something I ever watched without even caring that I didn’t understand one word of it!
Thanks for the recap, yf7184 and to everyone else who linked footage/pictues.
I hope BTE raised a lot of money for their cause.
It’s good to be a fan of this kind-hearted, talented gentleman.

  24. Now if we can only get “Living on a Prayer”. *crosses all body parts/appendages*

  25. Thanks to all! Love Cookie crumbs….

Love BTE too. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen them live — usually outside at JazzFest, etc. They always put on a great show. Miss ’em!

Thanks again. (BTW, I too think David’s a pretty good bowler, based on that clip. Must be the company I keep. lol)

  26. Yay! Avalanche! Avalanche live makes me feel a little swoon-y, lol.

  27. *crosses all body parts/appendages*

Just please don’t cross your eyes, wordnerdarchie!

  28. Yay! Avalanche! Avalanche live makes me feel a little swoon-y, lol.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I so just went there! :-)

Yeah, Livin’ on a Prayer needs to surface, cuz hearing, “We now cede the stage to David” followed by the video cutting off is just too cruel!

    Thanks too for the recap!!

  29. Yeah, Livin’ on a Prayer needs to surface

Yes, please! I’ll cross my fingers and toes and whatever, c’mon video peeps!

  30. Woo, got here just in time. Videos! Fandom, you never fail me. *grabby hands* Now, Avalanche is in my top 4 from DCTR (and I still think it could have been a contendah), thus I must admit I have like ten different versions downloaded. (Don’t judge.) These range from the album version to an acoustic Dave version to a just Dave with an electric guitar version to a couple full band versions including the one I got to hear live at Sunfest, and I really adore them all, but I just might have a new favorite. That was gorg! Kevin was doing something extra cool with the main guitar part, maybe? And oh did I mention the harmonies on Absolutely Still! Awesome song, awesome version. Love me some BTE and some Griffin/Cook. I can barely wait to hear what they created with their latest collab. *taps fingers, waits patiently for Fade Into Me (that’s what it was called, right?)*

Thanks also to the peeps who captured and posted the other vids (ooo, Chiefs burn- like that doesn’t happen a lot LOL) and the recap. How surreal must your life feel when people can watch you bowl on YouTube? Sounds like a really nice charity event. Kevin Griffin seems like a total mensch.

  31. Ahhh, Avalanche. So lovely live. Only played 24 times on tour – of all the songs on DCTR, only Permanent is more of a rarity. These videos have been really fun – cool event and a very good cause.

  32. Kevin Griffin seems like a total mensch

LOL, like attracts like ya know. Will we every be able to quit this guy? ( not that I’m trying very hard). Read on twitter that the person who uploaded Avalanche is working on LOAP. Just have to keep an eye on her channel.

  33. Beautiful version of this song. Lovely. Thank you MJ for the thread and for the videos guys.

  34. Ahhh, Avalanche. So lovely live. Only played 24 times on tour – of all the songs on DCTR, only Permanent is more of a rarity.

Wow, I didn’t realize that. I was fortunate to hear both. Permanent (1) and Avalanche (3) and as a bonus, Billie Jean (1). But whose counting? Haha, apparently I am. I have a spreadsheet, lol.

  35. Only played 24 times on tour – of all the songs on DCTR, only Permanent is more of a rarity.

Really? Holy hell, I just realized how lucky I was to get to hear it at one of the two concerts I got to see. (Well, two and a half if you count the Acoustic Xmas radio gig, which included Permanent, too.)

ETA: Wordnerdarchie, LOL. Spreadsheet. We are in illustrious company.

Ha, I just edited it back in for ya. I am addicted to the new edit functions, I’m telling you. I wasn’t sure that I spelled illustrious correctly, but what the hell.

  36. Suncheck, that we are, and I’m likin’ it. :)

ETA: Aw, you edited your edit, now my post makes no sense, but I’m leaving it anyway. Makes me look a little “loopy”, but I’m all right with that.

ETA: Doggone it, Suncheck, you edited your edit again. Now I really look like a crazy Cook fan, but I’m still way below the “bench mark” for that in tour attendance. You should know what that number is. ;)

  37. Yep Avalanche is a rarity. David’s recent confession in the LA Times interview that he doesn’t do love songs might be the explanation for this songs infrequent outings. It is one of the few straight forward romantic songs he has written. No angst or heartache. It does have a bit of a bittersweet tone & lyrics to it so many that it why it slipped through the cracks of his no love song edict.

  38. So I’m watching the vid of Absolutely Still at the top a couple of minutes ago thinking surely there’s better vid out there, prob in the comment section right now. Sure enough! Thanks SashaB? I’m listening in a few.

  39. If you can’t wait for LOAP to process, then you can see it HERE in the meantime. It’s worth the wait. :)

  40. OMG that Avalanche=me dead. Gah. Just gah.

Not gonna lie, LOP always gets me a little sappy. That will always be to me the song that started it all sigh.

  41. Christmas in March! Thanks for the LOAP link, SashaB.

Avalanche is in my top 4 from DCTR (and I still think it could have been a contendah), thus I must admit I have like ten different versions downloaded. (Don’t judge.)

Phew, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one!

  42. ETA: Doggone it, Suncheck, you edited your edit again. Now I really look like a crazy Cook fan, but I’m still way below the “bench mark” for that in tour attendance. You should know what that number is.

LOL, nah, I look like the crazy one. I can. not. stay. away. from. the edit. button. It’s like standing in front of a mirror and changing outfits ten times because you can’t make up your mind, which I do all the time…only with WORDS! Mwuah. Annnd I am not touching the edit again. Nope. Okay, except to say that dude, if I had the funds, I would so beef up my measily two concert tally.

  43. Not gonna lie, LOP always gets me a little sappy. That will always be to me the song that started it all sigh.

Me too, only for me, it brings back the magic of his home visit concert, where he did the amazing acoustic LOAP (and where we initially met acoustic Dave, I believe. I adore acoustic Dave!) :-)

  44. Beautiful!!! Everything! The harmonies, Avalanche, LOAP, DC, everything! :D

  45. Thank you everyone for all of the gorgeous Cookie crumbs. I must say that I am impressed by Megan too. Glad she was there. The Idols really are a classy lot, aren’t they?

  46. Annnnd there’s another version of Avalanche for my iPod. <3 Thx offside.

Oh, and Megan has come a long way performance wise, eh? Good on her!

  47. Well, Dave may not be a fan of love songs, but that version of Avalanche? Holy Moly! *is dead*
He needs to do more of that!
Thanks everyone for all the vids and pics. Too much hawtness in one spot.
I could watch that auction video over and over, even with the sound off, just to watch David’s expressions. Love his smile and laugh!

  48. Ohhhh, man, LOAP – I agree with THIS:

Me too, only for me, it brings back the magic of his home visit concert, where he did the amazing acoustic LOAP (and where we initially met acoustic Dave, I believe. I adore acoustic Dave!)

Every time he sings it, I think most definitely of his home visit concert… aw, hell, I gotta go watch more vids. Jeebus, when will I get tired of running back and watching any of that stuff? I’m glad I gave up quitting him ’cause it is just not going to happen.

  49. Please tell me I’m not the only one always running back and watching old Idol stuff… I would feel less nutty ;)

  50. Please tell me I’m not the only one always running back and watching old Idol stuff… I would feel less nutty

Erm, would it make you feel any better if I admitted to watching all of Dave’s AI performance videos, in order, when I get in a nostalgic mood?

  51. Erm, would it make you feel any better if I admitted to watching all of Dave’s AI performance videos, in order, when I get in a nostalgic mood?

    Yay, I’m not alone!

    Hee :)

(And on that note, I might as well confess: My kids were watching NickToons and there’s some Kid’s Choice awards or something on (yes, they’re up late – they get one night ’cause it’s spring break, they are so happy) and Rihanna was on there singing-ish “Please Don’t Stop the Music” and… I think of the S7 Idol Tour. Bwah.)

  52. Oh, thank you MJ and everyone else who provided the better quality videos and links to the mp3s. Man, are we spoiled. The necessity for a group hug (not in and of itself a bad thing, but you know) is staved off once again. Score!

I’m so jealous of all of you who got to see Avalanche in concert — it’s definitely one of my favorites.

I *did* get to Spaceland, btw, although I was late and missed (I found out later) the first two songs. I stood (very contentedly) in the back and once again got a great live sound experience. I love many MWK songs to pieces and was tickled to hear (most of) Anodyne, and also Circles Anthem and Make Me. The harmony on the latter two was particularly beautiful — any little key wobbles I heard on the Tulsa videos were completely gone and the songs were fantastic. The band was that awesome combination of really tight and yet loose and free — they seemed to be having a blast and were totally into it.

When I first walked in I thought Dave wasn’t there, so I settled in to get some old school MWK, when suddenly I *heard* him and his head popped up above the crowd. Did I mention I’m really short? It’s not a big place but I was far enough back I could really only see Neal, Andy and Dave’s heads and shoulders. Joey was mostly just flying hair and I never saw Kyle at all, though I could hear him of course. And I kept losing Dave — I realize now that I’ve seen some vids that it was because he was doing that banging, thumping guitar abuse thing, all bent over. Heh!

Vocally this was a really interesting experience. I love Andy’s voice, but I definitely liked the few songs I heard that night better with Dave on harmony. {purple prose alert} Andy’s voice is like a knife and David’s is like black velvet — I love how when David sings lead Andy’s voice cuts through it like a shiny, slashing accent but when Andy sings lead his voice is sort of enveloped and polished by David’s. {/purple prose alert} To me, either way it’s a very, very satisfying combination.

I’m reminded from these videos that I like David’s voice all on its own, too, and he sounds great with KGriffin. What a gorgeous song Absolutely Still is — thanks again to the videographers and linkers!

  53. Please tell me I’m not the only one always running back and watching old Idol stuff… I would feel less nutty

Mwahaha, tierbee, I can’t “go back” and watch the old stuff because I never saw it the first time around, but I do have to say that when I first discovered DC and before there were concert vids to watch, I re-watched the Idol performances friends shared with me over and over, trying to piece the whole journey together. (I finally got to see the whole season on rerun, which helped explain a lot of fandom inside attitudes — and angst, heh.)

I still have those performances on my iTouch, and yes, they do get watched (and watched and watched). And wow, he definitely has lost weight — not just since the show or the tour, but more even since Morongo, I think.

  54. MollyAnnMay, I loved your “purple prose” description of Andy and David’s voices- maybe because I kind of agree :)!

  55. Oh so I’m not the only one who rewatches older Cookie vids. It’s a fun pasttime.
All this Cookie goodness helped me get through a weekend wasted on being very sick. So proud to be fan of this talented gentleman.

Oh – and MollyAnnMay – loved yr descrip of Andy &Dave’s voices. sometimes purple prose is appropos

  56. Oh man I’ve been watching AI7 all over again too! I got started the other day after Aaron sang IDWAMAT so I watched Top 3 night from season 7 since I felt nostalgic for Davids version, then I ended up watching the season from the beginning. You know what that performance reminded me of? Kelly all the way at the end of season 1 belting My Surrender, when her voice was so clearly exhausted but she pushed everything she had into it.
You can tell his voice was starting to give out a little, but god he sang the crap out of that! Hee I remember a behind the scenes article from that night that mentioned Nigel going bonkers over that performance, that he was bouncing up and down applauding like crazy.

Oh and Billie Jean *still* gets me. For all Simon keeps blathering on about how you need to have a moment to the people this year, I watch that and I’m still in awe. Talk about the moment of all moments, eh?

Sidenote my father recently discovered he has on VHS tape the season 7 Hollywood commercial he was featured in! He was going through tapes and he had the Superbowl from that year recorded and the commercial was on I guess during that.

  57. ok, so while we all are in group therapy mode, i feel inclined to admit that i still haven’t deleted season 7 from my tivo in the garage where my treadmill is. and while the weather is gorgeous in california right now and i could be out running along the beach and breathing in the crisp spring air, instead i choose to run in my boring garage so that i can watch cookie vids over and over again. there’s nothing like a little final two performance night video to motivate me to run a little faster.

my name is cookmerized and i am a cookie-aholic. phew. i feel better now.

now, off to watch last night’s videos.

  58. yey! cookie crumbs! im really happy.. its march madness and can’t wait for april as well… igb and hopefully, a new single.
i was 19 when i got addicted to him and first time to fully watch an idol season because i started rooting for him… im turning 21 tom. i can’t believe i’m still a big fangirl of him. i’ve never cared for any popular acts before, but his influence is very different.

  59. Oh and Billie Jean *still* gets me. For all Simon keeps blathering on about how you need to have a moment to the people this year, I watch that and I’m still in awe.

Trina, I love to listen to the performance version on Billie Jean on my iPod so I can hear the folks in the audience start to lose their shit as the song goes on… I just remember sitting there glued to my TV and then calling my mom and saying, “What in the HELL was that?” I admit, I was late on the Cookie train. And now I am a permanently entrenched resident of Cookistan…

MollyAnnMay, I love your recaps of the shows you go to. If I can’t go, I want you to go and tell me about it ;) . I would LOVE to see MWK live, bonus if I get David. I’d also love to hear Andy do his To Have Heroes stuff, I love that EP lots. I have this “Cookie related” (for want of a better title) section on my iPod with David’s stuff from all his incarnations (it’s therapy to meeeee…) and then MWK and THH and… well, let’s say that playlist lasts a looooonnnnggg time.

I am working late, late, late again but now I have these new Cookie crumbs to watch (cough) times when I get too sleepy. Sigh. Loves him.

  60. MollyAnnMay, if you want to get the behind the scenes scoop on all the angst the fandom went through during S7, you should set aside some time to get lost down the rabbit hole that is TWoP David Cook: You Had Me At Hello thread. It’s hilarious to watch the folks that post there go from “OMG, he’s fug!” to “I’m in love!”, in rather short order, too, lol. http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3165522
I’ve read this through 3 times, as far as the Finale, and it never gets old. Some really hilarious stuff in there.

Or, if you don’t have time to read all 650 pages, through May 26th, lol, you should definitely read archucookie’s blog on DCO intertwining Alice in Wonderland and David’s TWoP thread. Hilarious and poetic: http://davidcookofficial.com/us/blog/down-rabbit-hole

wordnerdarchie, are you archucookie? Brilliant in any event.

To keep this more on topic, thank you so much for this thread MJ. I love knowing you have all the Cook news, lol.

Also, Andy Skib flew to Nashville this morning and is planning to have a small THHs show there Tuesday night, I believe. Don’t know if we have any fans on the ground there that might go and bring us back crumbs, but I am crossing my fingers now, just in case!

Hey all you Nashvillians, I’m playing a couple acoustic songs @ The Basement Tuesday night at 7:30. come and have a beer! about 7 hours ago via web

Then Neal tweeted back to tease him:
Hey all you Ethiopians, come on down – I’m playing some acoustic songs with my friend Dave tomorrow or the next day! Lolololol! Love those boyz!

  61. Thanks tierbee — for my own selfish reasons, the more shows I get to go to (and recap!) the better — I’m addicted now. I’m also kicking myself for not trying harder to get to the other shows around here during the tour. I’m still never going to be a fan of GA shows, but now I know I can chill in the back of the smaller (and even bigger, like Morongo) venues and still have a great time. Speaking of which, did I read correctly somewhere that MWK will be playing the Troubadour in April? Anyone know?

Sylvanaire, those tweets from Andy and Neal totally cracked me up today, as did the earlier one where Neal missed his flight and Andy offered him the use of his Hot Tub Time Machine. Bwah! And thanks for the two links to the rabbit hole (original and poetic version)! I know how much time it took me to immerse myself via video, so I know I will definitely have to set aside some time to read that thread, but I love narratives like like that — it sounds like it would be worth it. Especially because I already know it has a happy ending. *g*

ETA: Yeah, seriously he does look really thin, but I’m thinking the clothes hanger effect is just because he’s wearing old clothes and hasn’t bought any in his new size yet. Hopefully.

  62. Poor Dave – I’ve read people critiquing the new haircut, but they didn’t like the long stringy bangs before either. Previously people called him chubby or fat. Now that he works out and gets in shape people will probably say he’s too skinny. Glad he is just himself. I think he’s beautiful. oh yeah, and voice is nice too.

eta – and those great guys in his band are such a nice bonus!

  63. LOL. Why am I not surprised that the first comment on that TWoP thread is about… his hair.

  64. I think he looks like a clothes hanger in the pics last night due the way the shirt is buttoned. At the rate he’s going he may keep losing more buttons the more weight he loses. I approve!

Heh wellhesback did you see the meltdown that occurred after the interview he did with Ryan a couple of weeks ago? There was already this belief that he was only changing his appearance due to pressure from TPTB so that interview just caused more handwringing. This fandom is nuts. Only his fans would start angsting when he starts looking better and is getting healthy O.o

  65. yep,Trina, it’s a nutty fandom at times, that’s for dang sure. but so glad it’s a fandom that shares the pretty pictures and vids of Dave and his band. I got to three shows on the Declaration tour, but it felt like more because of the cellcasts and sharing.

  66. At the rate he’s going he may keep losing more buttons the more weight he loses. I approve!

    Ha, this! Bye, buttons :)

The Cookistan fandom is very entertaining. I mean, I angst way more than I should… but just when I feel like I’m over-angsty, I realize I am not so bad. And I am really trying to avoid searching his name on Twitter ’cause sometimes the stuff that gets Twittered to him… oh my.

  67. Have you guys watched the AI vids that you can get on DCO that you can download into the biggest, purtiest HD ever? I have more work, I need to stay up, I think I’ll fall down that rabbit hole a bit.

(Let me just mention, though, that I still want that “I’ll Be” audition full clip. Dammit!)

  68. Bwah! He is not anorexic or anything close to it. He looks great. He’s got a naturally (it seems) slim build, and after college it seems his bad eating habits finally caught up with him, what with no longer participating in organized sports and stuff. I think he’s been looking awesome lately actually.

Also, if you’re gonna accuse him of a disease, at least get it right. As anyone with two eyes can tell you, Dave (along with Andy and Neal) are suffering from acute koumpounophobia (fear of buttons). *shakes head* And it seems to only be getting worse. (Don’t all hurt yourselves running to send the boyz button down jeans.)

  69. HEY, I think I just wandered on to a COOKIE LOVEFEST….So OK he is great , looks goooood and sounds even better than the last time!! GOTTA LOVE EM!!

Megan Joy…..I am so happy to see her singing live, and now just starting to live her dream. I know she has been working hard to write music and get herself positioned to do just this and to introduce some of her own stuff.

She got such a RAW deal on Idol…almost to the point of being
humiliated with what she had to wear. TPTB went out of their way to put stumbling blocks in her way. Must have been the “CAW” “CAW”.
Also Simon was so pissed ofF when she said she didn’t care. This
was a girl dyin to see her child…Of course she needed to compromise her disappintment with her joy of BABY reunion.

I digress, Megan sounded on key for as much as I could hear with
the welcome but noisy music vids. She looked secure and very upbeat.

If you are interested there is a UTube vid of her Original song that she sang tonight. Sorry I am tech challenged, and cannot
put it up, but just look at UTube…Megan Joy/ Better Than Ezra, and it will come up as 7 hrs ago @ Harrahs Casino…7 hrs ago.

Much better sound. She did that very well and I’m certainly beginning to believe she may have a good chance to have a
career in Music, as she is working hard on it. She’s so very much together now..confident and still gorgeous, and dressed in her own
quirky way with her better quirky sound. Loved it!!!!!

  70. wordnerdarchie, are you archucookie? Brilliant in any event.

Sylvanaire, alas, I’m not archucookie, but thank you for the compliment. She is a sweetheart. I’ve had the good fortune to meet the dear woman and she’s as nice & funny in person as you see in her writings.

Also, if you’re gonna accuse him of a disease, at least get it right. As anyone with two eyes can tell you, Dave (along with Andy and Neal) are suffering from acute koumpounophobia (fear of buttons).

That’s one disease that I hope there’s no cure for! Keel, thanks for the laugh this morning.

  71. David looks hot in that shirt. If he looks like a clothes hanger, then it’s a super-sexy clothes hanger! I think that shirt fits him perfectly actually. Not a big fan of the dudes-busting-out-of-their-clothes look. Sorry, Michaels Sarver and Lynche.

Thanks for all the wonderful vids. Looks like BTE are great guys and put on a good show. I’ll have to catch one next time I get the chance.

  72. I’m not one who usually comments on looks, but I just got a laugh from reading the posts that said David looks anorexic. Of course, this is just my opinion, but I think he looks very healthy; not
at all too thin, just in shape.
MollyAnnMay, Thanks for the recap of the MWK show.It looks like it was a fun night from the video footage I’ve seen. These guys are so natural together, whether it’s MWK or The Anthemic. I hope they stay together.

  73. That version of Absolutely Still sounds . . . ethereal!

Dude is so great when hanging out and harmonizing and doing good with his friends.

  74. Heh. I know he’s not really anorexic! He looks pretty good. I happen to like clothes hangers. You guys don’t have to rush to his defense. I live him just how he is. I swear. I wonder how you pronounce that button phobia thing? I want to use it in an RL conversation. :)

  75. Dave (along with Andy and Neal) are suffering from acute koumpounophobia (fear of buttons).

    Koumpounophobia FTW!

  76. Thanks for all the wonderful vids. Looks like BTE are great guys and put on a good show. I’ll have to catch one next time I get the chance.

Very late to this party, but I have to say that I won tickets to see BTE last year and they were FANTASTIC. I was already somewhat familiar with their music and knew that KG had written with David on his album, but I had no idea what great live performers they are. Definitely check them out if you get a chance. Their fans are AMAZING. They know the words to every frickin’ song and they actually sing along ON KEY! My friend and I had a blast.

And with regard to David’s physique, I think he looks fantastic. If you’re gonna be a rock star, you should look like one — and he does. I don’t care why he did it, just glad he did. He needs to take care of himself — for his family, his fans and, most importantly, for himself.

Live, love and prosper, Dave! (And your hair looks great too!)

  77. As anyone with two eyes can tell you, Dave (along with Andy and Neal) are suffering from acute koumpounophobia (fear of buttons). *shakes head* And it seems to only be getting worse. (Don’t all hurt yourselves running to send the boyz button down jeans.)

Hahaha! Whut? Call me an enabler if you want, but I hope they never find a cure. Bad buttons! Down with buttons. (ILU Keel, btw.)

  78. I have nothing to add except I seen I had an opportunity to be the 100th post, and there cannot be a David Cook thread without 100+posts. Rock on!

  79. oh, and Andy has a solo gig this week but Neal trumped him (via twitter)
nealfingtiemann Hey all you Ethiopians, come on down – I’m playing some acoustic songs with my friend Dave tomorrow or the next day!

Reply Retweet andyskib Hey all you Nashvillians, I’m playing a couple acoustic songs @ The Basement Tuesday night at 7:30. come and have a beer!

  80. Hahaha! Whut? Call me an enabler if you want, but I hope they never find a cure. Bad buttons! Down with buttons. (ILU Keel, btw.)

The model for those jeans was a total fail as far as filling out the ass part. Good thing Cook is around to show people how it’s done.

    *waves* ILU too, sunchick.

  81. Thanks to BootStar I now have another thing to do before I kick the bucket.

    -See a BTE concert.

BRB, I gotta go mail my package of buttondown jeans something harmless to the band.

  82. The model for those jeans was a total fail as far as filling out the ass part.

No sweet ass there on that jeans model!

And I saw those tweets from Andy and Neal and that cracked me up. I love those guys :)

  83. thedavidcook

    Where are they? Addis Ababa?

  85. Where are they? Addis Ababa?

I don’t know but it made me nostalgic for my Kenny Rogers record, first one I ever got. Hee!

  86. The closest BTE concert is at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Kansas. Which is 14 hours away. Sunfest is 17 hours away, and LA is 31 hours away. Darn you Ohio! You may have brought me Crystal Bowersox, but really? I can’t afford a plane… Maybe I could hitch-hike. Although I do remember my mother saying something about that.

I know!! I could fly there on a magic carpet!

Wait, crap. Walmart doesn’t carry magic carpets.

This is a public service announcement. “Rachel (aka seriously) has lost her mind. If found please return to Middle, Nowhere County, Ohio. Thank you.

  87. Glad the boys made it safely to Africa.

The model for those jeans was a total fail as far as filling out the ass part. Good thing Cook is around to show people how it’s done.

I know, right? If that’s the competition, I gotta say, should the whole rockstar thing fall through, Cookie might have a future as an ass model. Business in the front, party in the back. ;)

    05.01.10
    West Palm Beach, FL
    SunFest
    Flagler Drive

Woo hoo! You just gave me another reason to go back to Sunfest. I freakin had a blast last year, and it wasn’t just the whole first Cook concert euphoria. No, it was also the rum! Okay, and all of the music. And the weather held out. DC&TA plus a bonus of Jack’s Mannequin and Matt Nathanson…ah yes, the summer of ’09.

  88. I am so jealous of you sunchick! You get all the fun! I would kill to see Jack’s Mannequin. Pfft.

  89. (Once again watching big, beautiful HD vids of Idol performances in between working so I can stay awake… note to self: have tissues before watching Always Be My Baby)

  90. Where are they? Addis Ababa?

I don’t know but it made me nostalgic for my Kenny Rogers record, first one I ever got. Hee!

Addis Abada and Bahir Dar are two of the slum areas of Ethiopia
David is visiting.(For anyone who is wondering.)

  91. I just had a funny thought- I wonder if those young girls will be scared of Neal and all his tatts and piercings. It’s nothing different for most of us, but I wonder if it might shock them a little upon first look!

  92. Addis Abada and Bahir Dar are two of the slum areas of Ethiopia
David is visiting.(For anyone who is wondering.)

Not quite true. They will be visiting slums in Addis Ababa and Bahir Dar. The cities themselves are the national and a regional capital, respectively. Like most major cities, they have some beautiful and cosmopolitan features and some really impoverished sections.

(DC has a very active Ethiopian community. One learns things.)

  93. Here is your answer Offside:
