Nielsens: ‘American Idol’ surges 7% from 2010

Idol wild. The opening of American Idol’s top-13 round sang to 24.4 million viewers Wednesday, up by 1.5 million (a 7% gain) from last year’s comparable top-12 episode on Fox. Thursday’s results show was up 8%, to 22.1 million.

Steven Tyler: Casey is Going to Win American Idol!

And speaking of front-runners, Steven Tyler confessed to Hollyscoop that Casey Abrams is his top pick this season.

Steven told Hollyscoop at the 28th annual PaleyFest at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, “No wonder he was in the hospital, he’s getting cloned. They told him he was winning and he said, ‘I’m cloning my ass.’”

‘American Idol’ does PaleyFest: Jennifer Lopez’s breakdown, Naima Adedapo’s ‘overstanding, ‘ and who’s the biggest troublemaker of the Top 12?

Last night, the 28th Annual PaleyFest saluted TV’s biggest show, American Idol, with a lively panel discussion at Los Angeles’ Saban Theater. Those in attendance included judges Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler (both of whom were wearing wacky scarves, which you can see at left); executive producer Ken Warwick; head of alternative programming at Fox, Mike Darnell; and nine of the show’s Top 12 contestants. (Minors Lauren Alania, Scotty McCreery, and Thia Megia who were too busy with schoolwork to attend the event.)

Huntsville native Paul McDonald has busy ‘American Idol’ weekend with rehearsals, video

McDonald and his buddies worked on this week’s songs, which they each pick from the year they were born. For McDonald, a Huntsville High School graduate who attended Auburn, it was 1984.

During an interview with The Times Friday, McDonald didn’t say which song he was going to sing, but he said it is “a classic that everybody will know.”

The series will launch on Monday, April 4 at 10:00 PM with WABC TV’s “Eyewitness News” anchor PHIL LIPOF sitting down with pop and Broadway star Justin Guarini to discuss his journey from “American Idol” to his concert and touring success and now, his acclaimed theater career. In between chatting about his past, present and his future, Justin will take the audience on a musical ride, singing and performing some of his newest songs. The show takes place at the Loews Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue at 61st Street).

NBC officially unveils ‘The Voice’ cast

NBC on Tuesday trotted out pop diva Christina Aguilera, hip-hop’s Cee Lo Green, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, and country crooner Blake Shelton at a press junket in downtown Los Angeles to plug the network’s new pop-up “Idol” challenge, “The Voice.”

Christina Aguilera says her reality show ‘isn’t about tearing people down’

The four new judges — excuse us, we mean coaches — met with the press for the first time today to talk up The Voice, NBC’s new singing competition that’ll bow April 26. Sitting in their special over-sized chairs that swivel around when they’re ready to see the contestants, the pros talked about how the show will allow them to “mentor” newbies – not trash their dreams.

“It’s less about being judgmental and more about helping them out, ” says Adam Levine, who will serve as one of four mentors along with Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton.
