Idol Headlines for 03/11/10

Danny Gokey’s ‘Days’ Starts Strong

Season eight American Idol finalist Danny Gokey claims the best first-week sales showing on Country Albums by a rookie male country act in 18 years, and the best opening week digital sum for any country newcomer, as “My Best Days” opens at No. 3 on the chart with 65, 000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album also opens at No. 4 on The Billboard 200.

Gokey’s start is the best debut for a male country solo artist since Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Some Gave All” blew in with 90, 000 copies in June 1992, and bests fellow “Idol” alum Bucky Covington’s May 2007 self-titled debut, which started with 61, 000 units.

Gokey’s digital tally is 19, 000, and inks a new benchmark for first-week digital sales by a new country artist, previously set when Gloriana’s self-titled debut album sold 9, 000 downloads last summer.

Disney Channel, Disney XD Present Programming Plans For 2010-11

“Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension” – The #1 animated series for the past two years among Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14 has inspired a television movie to premiere in summer 2011 on Disney XD and Disney Channel. In the movie, Phineas and Ferb discover that their beloved pet platypus, Perry, is really a secret agent who battles the forces of evil daily. The boys team up with Perry on a grand adventure through a parallel universe where they must ultimately thwart an even more evil version of Dr. Doofenshmirtz. The feature-length movie is another boon for the animated comedy which will also lead an all-summer 2010 initiative on Disney XD and Disney Channel, including an hour-long episode guest starring Clay Aiken and Chaka Khan. The series continues to create opportunities for other Disney lines of business: the “Phineas and Ferb” characters are at Disneyland Parks and Resorts, Disney Consumer Products debuted a toy line at Toys R Us, and “Phineas and Ferb” is a top selling apparel line at Walmart and Target. Other items include books and comics from Disney Publishing, the #1 Nintendo DS game at Game Stop and BestBuy from Disney Interactive Studios, episode compilation DVDs from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and a soundtrack on Walt Disney Records which ranked #10 on the Billboard children’s album chart for 2009.

Is The iTunes LP Sinking?

Has the iTunes LP performed sluggishly in its first few months on the market? GigaOm’s Paul Bonanos took a hard look at the digital album format and found record label disappointment over sales so light they may not cover developer costs that can run upwards of $60, 000 per title.

When the iTunes LP format was launched in September 2009, it was touted for its ability to offer a deeper experience with album artwork, lyrics, videos and other media. Wrote Bonanos:

Six months later, however, iTunes LP doesn’t prompt much consumer recognition, and none of the industry sources with whom I spoke said they viewed it as being anywhere close to game-changing from a format perspective. Rather, it’s considered more of a curiosity.

“American Idol” Alum Scott MacIntyre Pulls “Heartstrings” On New Album

Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Scott MacIntyre inspired millions when the near-blind 24-year-old made it all the way to the Top 8 of American Idol’s season eight. He’s now the fifth Idol from that season to release a full-length album, “Heartstrings, ” which finds the classically trained performer taking a surprisingly radio-friendly pop-rock route.

“On ‘Idol, ‘ we did disco, Michael Jackson, country, and all this different stuff and we all tried to make it contemporary, ” MacIntyre said. “But once I got on tour, I started to move more towards where I wanted to be musically.”

“Heartstrings, ” which is available now on iTunes and on his website, finds MacIntyre leaning towards piano-heavy pop, experimenting for the first time with crunching guitars, heavy drums, and even some beats on the title track. “There’s moments where I pull back as well and have intimate moments, but I’ve always been captivated by sounds that really move you, ” he says.

‘American Idol’ Experts Predict Who’s Going Home Tonight

This year’s “American Idol” top 12 will be revealed on Thursday night’s (March 11) show, but not before the final four semifinalists are shown the door. Unlike previous weeks, when it was fairly obvious which two guys and two girls would be leaving the show, the competition has finally begun to get tighter, and making the call this week is a bit harder.

The decision seems pretty clear, though, to MTV News’ “Idol in 60 Seconds” honcho Jim Cantiello. “Paige Miles blew it, ” he said of the singer who has been touted as having the strongest voice in the competition by the judges during the live shows after getting next-to-zero screen time in Hollywood. “For two weeks, we’ve heard the judges go on and on about her big voice. Then she finally tries to share it with America and chokes!”

  1. Randy Travis talking about Carrie, also a link to a preview of Carrie’s tour fashion.

    Randy Travis interview

On Carrie Underwood, whose duet with Travis, “I Told You So,” earned them Grammy Awards in January:

    “She is siiiinngger!”

On the duet’s live performance on “American Idol”:

“There were sick people all over that show. I was sick. When Carrie would cough, it sounded like a heavy smoker, that breaking-up-in-the-chest thing.

“We went into rehearsal, and I knew how sick she was. The verses are OK, they’re not that hard to sing. But, man, you get into the chorus of ‘I Told You So,’ you stretch. So she went into that chorus and just nailed it. So in the rehearsal, I looked over at her like, ‘You ain’t right. That just ain’t right.’

“When we finished, there’s this boy that runs over and says, ‘Hey, Mr. Travis. The director said he just loved the way you looked so lovingly at Carrie. He said he wants you to do that on the show.’ And I said, ‘Man, that ain’t no problem.’ I was just stunned at what she did. I am just in awe of her pipes.”

I had no idea Carrie was sick that day she sang with Randy. She sounded amazing singing I Told You So with him.

  13. Interesting that iTunes album sales don’t seem to be exciting the labels very much. I’ve noticed that album sales rankings on iTunes don’t necessarily translate into comparable rankings once HDD and Billboard reports come in. It can appear on iTunes that somebody is really selling a lot of albums, but they may barely cause a ripple on Billboard charts.

Also, not many people who are interested in first class audio quality are likely to download compressed album tracks when they can buy the actual CD for about the same price.

Those who have been pointing to iTunes album rankings as if they really mean something may need to come up with a more legitimate reporting source.

  14. Interesting that iTunes album sales don’t seem to be exciting the labels very much. I’ve noticed that album sales rankings on iTunes don’t necessarily translate into comparable rankings once HDD and Billboard reports come in.

Yes, brick and mortar stores definitely sell more. Although iTunes did come through for Gokey at 19,000 copies of his album; pretty decent.

Pixie; you are right; everyone does always scream about not enough supplies for all our faves. But only stocking 8 copies at Target in Milwaukee?? Poor planning. And its still out, unless they received more that sold already, IDK.

  15. gulfluv, thanks so much for all the Kris goodies this morning! So sweet to see Kris talk about LLWD going platinum (“incredible” and “it’s still climbing”). He thanks the fans and the radio stations and credits them for its success.

Krandrew! That’s a first for an acoustic performance. Am I right in that he didn’t sing as much harmony as Cale usually does? But he sounded good when he did sing, and his guitar playing is more intricate than Cale. Really loved their Red Guitar. Thanks apriljoiex for the great videos!

ETA: Oops! Just saw MJ gave these a separate thread.

  16. I am truly amazed at the acceptance of our Top 2 S8 IDOL’s singles on radio and the marketplace. I don’t necessarily think either one is the best from its respective album, so I’m hopeful that both Kris and Adam continue to have success with future singles.

While it seems like lightyears since these singles went for adds, and we’ve had some worry wort fan bases, I think this level of success in such a short time frame is very admirable.

    Go Kris and Adam!

I also think that Danny will have multiple singles chart very high on the country charts. I can’t wait to see his singles airplay numbers in about 6 months time, especially given the record he broke in the country genre with debut album sales.

    Good luck, Danny!

  17. Interesting that iTunes album sales don’t seem to be exciting the labels very much.

That article is not about ITunes albums per se, but about that special interactive format launched last year that was supposed to reinvigerate album sales.

  18. I think there was a tweet from ainow stating that the boot song will remain the same for the rest of the show. No change up this year.

Really? Oh wow, that’s interesting, thanks! Kind of disappointing.

Yeah, and disappointing because the song kind of sucks and isn’t done by an ex-AIer.

saga – thanks for this. I had no idea about Europe. Yesterday I was wondering why a label would promote overseas if the gold/platinum certs were so low, but taken as a whole they are much bigger. Its worth trying to tap into it if the artist is a good fit.

  21. Saw on Billboard.com’s twitter that Pink Floyd won a legal battle against selling their songs from concept albums as singles (ringtones?), I thought that was pretty interesting. There’s definitely stuff stirring in the music industry right now. Where it all lands, nobody knows.

And yep, the boot song sucks.

That is INCREDIBLY disappointing! That boot song SUCKS big time (can’t even remember it ever, don’t know it, don’t care). SOOO many songs from an AI-er would have been better (David Cook covering a song, Aftermath from Adam, one or two of Kris’s album songs) – plus it would have actually helped one of their contestants.

Boo Idol! More reason not to like this season :-(

  26. Billboard 200 Album info:

#49 FYE (54) (also #10 on Canadian album chart, up from #11 last week)
    #92 Kris Allen (82)

  27. girlygirl – I feel like when you’re away from the boards for a day, I’m like, “noooo! where are my daily numbers!!!” Thank you for posting these!

  28. I also think that Danny will have multiple singles chart very high on the country charts.

I think that will happen too. There are a lot of really good songs on that album. Having the biggest male country debut since 1992 is going to get a lot of attention, but having strong material ready to go is what will really keep building the momentum. And of course having CDs in the stores will help! Still seeing lots of twitter complaints but I hope the label is getting it together pretty soon here. His next single, I Will Not Say Goodbye, is going to do very well I think. I still can’t decide if I think the next one should be Crazy Not To or Get Away. Probably Get Away. I keep clicking repeat on that one, so that is my unofficial market assessment. ;)

  29. So excited about LLWD breaking into the Top 10 on the mediabase chart today. It looks like it will stay there for the rest of the week, giving Kris a legit Top 10 hit. And yay for making Top 20 on AC.

  30. Someone commented upthread about iTunes as an indicator of sales. I watch iTunes numbers a lot, and look at them relative to final Soundscan sales. When an album is brand new and advertised heavily on iTunes, a high iTunes rank can definitely give a ballpark idea of overall sales rank, though specific rank can vary a lot based on exclusives offered elsewhere for that album or for competitors’ albums; based on whether the genre tends to sell more at brick and mortars; and lots of other variables. After the first few weeks, and in the absence of major bumping factors (Idol appearance, other major appearances, etc), it becomes less and less reliable as an indicator of anything. It is terrific at showing whether an album is getting a major bump well after release, but it can be deceiving as to the magnitude of that bump. A record can shoot from around 600 to 150 and only increase in overall sales by as little as a couple 1,000. With time, iTunes sales seem to shrink as a percentage of overall sales. I think at best all digital sales are only about 10% of all sales, and iTunes does not have all the digital market.

When you get sales ranks on iTunes in even the mid-hundreds, day to day movements have to be increasingly large to indicate anything. Past about 500 in rank, you are probably talking differences of 10’s or 100’s of records between neighboring records. So, I see high iTunes rank at debut time as meaningful, though you can’t rely on the specific rank. It is also a greater indicator if a bump is occuring. Past the first few weeks of a debut or in the absence of bump-causing promo, it must be taken with a HUGE grain of salt.

  31. WWFM

    #25 Hot 100 (24)
    #3 Canadian Hot 100 (3)
    #15 Pop (17)
    #16 Adult Pop (19)
    #23 Digital (23)
    #27 Radio (33)

    I believe it is also #3 on Japan’s Billboard Hot 100. :-)

So excited the idols are going international….Kris, Allison and Adam! :-)

  32. Last update of the morning — iTunes:

    #19/#856 LLWD
    #20 WWFM
    #109 MBD
    #171 LIB
    #592 FYE
    #784 AWM

PS – Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah is at #27 on iTunes chart

    #14 MBD
    #116 Kris Allen
    #250/#386 FYE

(Allison’s album fell off this chart)

  33. You can now vote for the Unplugged version of WWFM on the VH1 countdown. I’d like to see the new version on TV, the other video has been out for a while.

  34. I still can’t decide if I think the next one should be Crazy Not To or Get Away.

Josie, I am torn too. Crazy Not To is just a phenomenal love song; but Get Away is a kick a** party song, which Danny needs for his male fans, so I guess I’d vote Get Away.

  35. I believe it is also #3 on Japan’s Billboard Hot 100.

I think FYE (not WWFM) is #3 in Japan. That’s the single there, I think. That is so awesome! :-) FYE is a great fit for Japan, imo.

Just saw that! (and voted :-)) So cool! I’d love for both to make the countdown! That VH1 Unplugged set is SOOOO insanely good! How is he so perfect? Though I still love me some original WWFM music vid – angsty, chinese food eating Adam is made of win ;-)

  37. We’re discussing Danny’s second single already? Country is crazy fast with singles, lol What about Kris? (Please not AWM, thanks)

LOL I think they did a product placement for whatever that liquor was on the counter.

Oh.. and Singapore really loves there Idols, huh?

    ETA:
Ok so since the product placement was bugging me for weeks, I googled it. TyKu is a new Japanese liquor.

LOL – I thought that too – I was like, wait, didn’t Danny’s first single just come out not long ago?

  43. What’s this concert he is doing. Is it a little radio gig? I haven’t been keeping up.

Glad that the dude doing the FYE/Fever yt vids will get to perform. That guy is a hot dancer!!

  44. There hasn’t been a date announced for when Danny’s second single will release, but Danny has said what it will be. I think it will be awhile yet because the first one is still working its way up the chart and I can only assume will pick up momentum due to the great hoopla of recent events.

500 winners will be chosen to catch Adam Lambert live!

  46. What’s this concert he is doing. Is it a little radio gig? I haven’t been keeping up.

Adam will perform at Pantages Hollywood Theater at Universal Studios in Resorts World Sentosa. 500 tickets were given to fans who bought his special edition CD but I think the place holds 1500.

  47. girlygirl – what is “heatseakers” where MBD is ranked #3? I’ve never heard of that term!

No worries! Seriously, this Adam int’l promo stuff has been insanely hard to follow – what with all the interviews, songs, performances, etc. floating around! I’ve been up till 2am some nights taking it all in, and STILL have a hard time keeping it straight ;-) He just needs to slow down!!! (j/k, he should never slow down – except to get some much needed rest, of course)

  51. Im sure this will get lost in the mix or taken as a hater… but…

    The Adam UK article…

“If people are lacking purpose in life would you advise them to take LSD?

Sure, it’s one method of finding yourself. My trip led me to some epiphanies about who I was as a performer, what I wanted to do and how I needed to create my own opportunities.”

Is he seriously advocating drug usage there??? Really? I mean its one thing to say “yeah, I did drugs”, but saying you would advise people to try drugs is quite another. Thats completely irresponsable!
    —–

Side note I heard a commercial on my radio this morning that mentioned Kat McPhee being on Community. No idea what it is, lol but I just happened to hear her name. Just one of those ‘oh hey!’ moments.

  52. Adam will perform at Pantages Hollywood Theater at Universal Studios in Resorts World Sentosa. 500 tickets were given to fans who bought his special edition CD but I think the place holds 1500.

Each “winner” has been given 2 tickets. I would gather the additional seats are for press and VIP. I am sure this is a “joint” venture with Sony the parent company of both RCA and the Theater.

Hopefully it will be a complete concert…an hour gig for the “fans” who have worked so hard to win tickets and who have supported Adam so well in Singapore. I heard a dance group that has been putting their “stuff” on You Tube and dancing to Adam’s singles have been invited to open for him.

  53. Wow, good for Danny!!!!

Not only a first good week’s showing, but setting records.

Supposedly RCA shipped another 127k albums to stores; but my local Target is still all sold out, what gives????

I’m glad for Danny concerning the numbers, but I, too, am still waiting for a cd, lol. Have been twice to my local Walmart and still haven’t seen it.

  54. The boot songs stinks. I think they gave up big sales potential on this one.

  55. LOL – I thought that too – I was like, wait, didn’t Danny’s first single just come out not long ago?

A single can take 6 months to peak on the Country charts and Danny is only at 11 weeks I think (or 12?) so it will be quite a while for the second. But he has had a great response from radio DJs to a song at his visit that they are pretty sure of what the second single will be.

  56. I am glad to see that Danny charted on several charts on Billboard for his single and album. :)

Also he just tweeted for people to vote for Chris Young for one of the ACM awards. From Danny’s Twitter:

Hi!! if u get a chance vote 4 my labelmate Chris Young 4 ACM Top New Solo Vocalist at http://www.voteacm.com by 2morow He’s a good guy & I like him

I hope that Danny will attend these awards in April.

As is the neon green drink in the little ice glass thingie. Lol, and it’s all dudes in the background! I like that thuggish looking tall blond guy with the short/shaved hair…

  61. I think there was a tweet from ainow stating that the boot song will remain the same for the rest of the show. No change up this year.
American Idol.com confirmed that fact the day the song was announced:

    Major FAIL Idol.

  62. Lol at Cookie in his parka. It is nice of him to update us :). He is such a goofball.

  64. That twitpic of Dave is just……LOL! It looks like all of them are in an igloo with all of those parkas on. Lets, see didn’t Dave call Andrew a goober during the weekend of his graduation on twitter? Nah, Dave you are the goober! Hee!

Close. Billboard’s Heatseeker Album chart tracks the bestselling albums from new or developing artists. Once an artist has an album appear in the top 100 of the BB200, or breaks into the top 10 of a genre album chart (Country, R&B, Latin, Christian, Gospel), that artist is no longer eligible for the Heatseeker chart with either their current or subsequent albums. Heatseeker Songs are the most popular songs across all airplay formats, where the artist has never appeared in the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100.

  66. Drank the kool-aid. Wore the parka. Feel like I am in a cult.

I suppose Adam was being honest but you’re right Frogcookie- playing with drugs is a dangerous game. I have a son with depression & this is finely tuned with medication!! To knowingly play Russian roulette with your brain is foolish! For some people that one “trip” leads them on a pathway of destruction!!
I just hope Adam is not still “dabbling” with these drugs. If you lack purpose- drugs are not the answer- they can make everything a whole lot worse!!

  71. According to LA Times, Orianthi is next weeks guest performer on AI results show

Well that was so unexpected. A 19 managed artist on AI? The hell you say.

I haven’t paid enough attention to this, so forgive me if I got this wrong, but wasn’t Danny’s first single going to be the ‘it’s only Jesus,’ (or something) song? Did that ever go to adds? did he perform that? I just seem to recall that what was initially going to be Danny’s first offical single, then wasn’t, but that might not have gotten to the point of being offical.

At least that is my vague recollection, admittedly not a Danny fan, so only pay a glancing amount of attention to him.

And now for something completely different, Cook looks so cute with his beanie, that odd parka and the goofy expression. Win.

  73. I think the label was going with It’s Only but switched to MBD before It’s Only was sent to radio.

At this point in time, I see the S8 folk as legit recording artists. I thhink Adam’s LSD comments are dumb but folk in the public eye say lots of stupid crap. It’s become tiresome (for me) to care much since the drug stuff feels like old news. Some folks will like the pro drug comments. Others won’t and see him as a bad influence on his younger fans

  74. It’s Only was only going to be Danny’s single for like a week. They announced it very quickly the week before the CMA’s and then pulled it the week after in favor of My Best Days Are Ahead of Me. There were a lot of radio types in Nashville for the CMA’s and rumor has it that My Best Days played better among that group. Actually I am glad that Danny’s label was on top of things and switched the single quickly because My Best Days is doing well on country radio. It is my understanding that country labels like to release uptempo songs for first singles and follow up with a slower song for the 2d single which is what it looks like they will do since Danny has indicated I Will Not Say Goodbye will be the 2d single

  75. I think the label was going with It’s Only but switched to MBD before It’s Only was sent to radio

That sounds about right. Thanks for refreshing my memory. Oh and good choice by Danny’s label. I don’t think “It’s Only” would be doing as well as MBD is now, and could going forward.

    ETA:

It’s Only was only going to be Danny’s single for like a week. They announced it very quickly the week before the CMA’s and then pulled it the week after in favor of My Best Days Are Ahead of Me.

Thanks for that info as well, monte. Much appreciated, and yeah, good that they pulled it so quickly after realizing that it wasn’t getting a great response.

  76. I’m not sure there was indication that It’s Only got a bad response, just that response to MBD was better. Last time I looked, It’s Only was up to some 150,000 plays on YT, I think (Edit: up to ~184,000 tonight, and keeping in mind that’s just audio with a pic of Danny — no video).

Among Danny fans, a lot of them actually prefer It’s Only since it uses a lot more of Danny’s vocal abilities. Though especially after seeing Danny do it live, I think the vocals just get underestimated with MBD and some of his other faster tempo songs. And Danny clearly likes It’s Only, and it was a very good choice for promo purposes as two of the songwriters were Dave & Charles with Lady Antebellum. Even this week, Danny got a little item in USA Today due to the Lady A songwriter connection for It’s Only.

I pretty much agree, his second single will be a serious ballad. I Will Not Say Goodbye seems to be the current plan. The Jeffrey Steele song Tiny Life would be another good choice. I could also see I Still Believe (the Kara co-write), which is a fun song and sold a surprising amount of copies on iTunes. Or Get Away, lol, which is a pretty rockin’ tour song. Danny actually has a nice, balanced album, so there are quite a few choices.

  77. frogcooke: The Adam UK article…

“If people are lacking purpose in life would you advise them to take LSD?

Sure, it’s one method of finding yourself. My trip led me to some epiphanies about who I was as a performer, what I wanted to do and how I needed to create my own opportunities.””

Is he seriously advocating drug usage there??? Really? I mean its one thing to say “yeah, I did drugs”, but saying you would advise people to try drugs is quite another. Thats completely irresponsable!

If Adam said that, he’s an idiot. Talented musically but a thoughtless idiot for encouraging vulnerable people lacking purpose in life to turn to drugs like LSD for supposed help. Maybe he hasn’t met any people (and their loved ones) whose lives have been ruined or ended by drugs like LSD?

  78. Danny actually has a nice, balanced album, so there are quite a few choices.

Another question for the Danny fans/experts, did he do any writing or co-writing on the album? And has he expressed a desire to do so? He doesn’t have to. I am not of the opinion that one has to be a singer/songwriter to be a “real” musician, I’m just curious if that is something Danny might want to do.

  79. Yeah, this stuff about Adam and drugs is getting old. It’s not like anybody will start taking drugs because Adam Lambert is saying so. And is not like he’s going out of his way to advocate drug use. People ask him questions, and he already made perfectly clear that he’ll answer them honestly, even if the answer is not apropriate. If he had a “positive” experience with LSD and people ask him about it, he’ll say so.

I’m a hardcore fan of Adam, never did drugs in my life, and I’m not gonna start now because Adam is saying that drugs are fun. If somebody is idiot enough to start doing drugs just because of what some singer said in an interview, Adam Lambert is not that person’s biggest problem.

According to Adam’s Twitter, his quotes have again been artfully rearranged to change their intended meaning. He tweeted:

Ooh some members of the press are so sneaky!! -turning my words around and mixin and matchin quotes to change meaning! clever f***ers:) about 5 hours ago via Echofon

guess they’re just doin their job. I’m honest to a fault. I left my filter in 07. I could order a replacement, but I’d rather keep it real. about 5 hours ago via Echofon

Sometimes I wish I could time travel to 1969. about 4 hours ago via Echofon

So, based on what he tweeted, he did talk openly, but obviously not in the order quoted. I love his honesty, but he also seems a tad (understatement?) too trusting of the press. He’s so laid back and conversational during his interviews, that I can see how he might joke around or make off the collar comments that could be twisted around to make “news.” I would hate to see him have to stop being so easy with his media conversations because, as a fan, I love hearing all he has to say, but if everything he says keeps getting blown up and twisted around by the media, I could see how he might have to start zipping the lips. The irony here is that the very press that might make it dangerous for him to be so chatty would be just as disappointed as his fans if he had to become more stilted in his interviews.

  81. Question about country music: Do singles typically move up the country charts faster than those on the Top 40 charts? It seems like pop singles take 4 to 6 months to reach their peak position.
Is MBD climbing at an average rate for country songs or does it seem to be climbing faster?

  82. Sorry, I’m having problems editing my above comment. The last part that’s in quotation marks is me talking, not part of Adam’s tweets! I’m sure y’all figured that out, but I feel better clarifying, anyway! LOL!

  83. Danny did not do any writing or co-writing of songs on his album. He said he plans to on the next album.

  84. Danny did not do any writing or co-writing of songs on his album. He said he plans to on the next album.

Well cool for him if that is something he wants to do in the future. I hope he gets that chance to do so. Is he working on stuff now?

I mean, not everyone can be like Michael Sarver of last year and have like 900 songs they’ve written already in their life, just waiting to be worked on/recorded. But if he got a chance to work with the people who wrote and/or produced the stuff on his album, that would be cool for him as well. Just to learn how they do it, their feelings on it. Plus he got to work with some people who are pretty successful it seems. That Lady A. connection couldn’t have come at a better time, it seems, given their recent success.

  85. Country songs do not climb faster up the charts unless you are an established artist. Danny and Carrie released their singles at approximately the same time, Temporary Home is in the top 10, Danny’s single is at #30. Danny’s single is chugging up the charts like most new artists. It can sometimes take a song 6 months to reach it’s peak. There are some songs close to Danny’s on the chart that have been on the chart for much longer so I would say Danny’s song is doing pretty good.

  86. Another question for the Danny fans/experts, did he do any writing or co-writing on the album? And has he expressed a desire to do so? He doesn’t have to. I am not of the opinion that one has to be a singer/songwriter to be a “real” musician, I’m just curious if that is something Danny might want to do.

I agree with you, I don’t think a vocalist has to write songs to have credibility as an artist — assuming they are serious about singing and actually have talent and their own style with it.
Danny did tell someone recently that he has started something toward writing songs for his next album. He seems to want to try, so good for him. It won’t bother me in the slightest though if he relies on professional Nashville songwriters, as many country artists do including some of the biggest names out there.
Danny also seems to have been learning guitar more seriously than I would have guessed. Perhaps the two go together.

Danny’s single has been moving up at a respectable pace for a newbie, or even an established artist who is not in the “hot” category or a really big name. He’s been running close on the charts in a little group with Gretchen Wilson and Lee Ann Womack’s new songs, for example. WHile the big names like Reba, Martina, George Strait, Carrie, and especially Kenny Chesney move up quite fast. But bit by bit, it is possible for a newbie to work their way toward the top if they can wait for it. Easton Corbin’s song is #4 this week and has been on the charts for 30 weeks, eeps.
Another thing I hadn’t quite realized before is that country seems pretty merciless if you start to slip or hit #1 and can’t stay there. Two weeks of fading can land you recurrent. The bigger-name artists seem to put out a new single before their old one has even dropped off. Not all the newer artists can afford to do that, I suspect.

Of course, he’s a total moron if he really did suggest kids go tripping out on drugs to find themselves.

I’d really love some video of Adam getting his gold record.
