  1. Nobody who isn’t signed with 19 gets the excellent promo that Katharine gets. Today, Tonight shows are excellent gigs. She must still have excellent representation or is still famous enough to warrent it.

I admire Katharine for her hard work and persistence in a very tough industry. On the other hand, I can’t imagine her album doing well. But I guess the feeling is she’s beautful and talented so eventually that will translate into a recording star. She’s like the starlet who’s supposed to hit big but somehow it doesn’t happen.

I see opening week sales of 15-18K but that’s a complete guess.

  2. Here’s the promo that ran last night for Cook’s EM:HE appearance. Looks to be nice and heartwarming. I hadn’t watched the show in years but caught the recent episode with Kellie Pickler – It was very well done and I was surprised at how involved the celeb guests actually get. The promo shows Dave running the charity auction, and pictures and interviews after the filming indicate that he did everything from hanging drywall to picking the family up at the airport. I also know the family involved was backstage at one of the Declaration tour stops in Indiana after the filming. This show should be fun to see.

ETA: I agree with you on Kat, jpfan. I’ve been impressed with her management and Verve’s handling of her in advance of her new album. I’m viewing this one as a “relaunch,” and it seems that they are too based on the promo she’s getting. I went to see Sherlock Holmes this weekend in a Showcase Theater chain location. Their pre-show entertainment included two separate Idol promos – one for Kris (they talked about his win and played LLWD), and one of similar length and prominence for Kat McPhee.

  3. I am glad that Danny will be performing at the Opry this week and that he will be apart of the Sound and Speed event. Hopefully that will give him a nice amount of exposure, because I believe that event is big.

  4. I’m such a nerd for this show – I’m absolutely obsessed with the repeat of S8 on Fox Reality Channel! Lol – had to stay up till 1:30am (despite needing to wake up 4 hrs later) just to catch Adam’s final group 2 performance. Group 2 kicked so much butt: Adam, Kris, Allison, Matt, even Megan and Jasmine.

ETA: Before that, caught Group 1 – wow with that Danny pimpage. He and Sarver got the most coverage leading up to the top 36. (well, except for peeps like Tatiana and Norman)

  5. I’ve bene watching the repeat, too, and shouting out each time I see a glimpse of Allison (actually amazed at how many glimpses there were – love the stink eye they edited in once re Tatiana) and how FEW glimpses there were of Kris. BUT, I did tear up at his dad’s huge bearhug after he made the top 36.

And I loved Adam’s Group 2 replay better than his first performance.

  6. Is Danny’s Opry debut performance going to be broadcasted on TV?

I really like Katharine’s voice and she’s absolutely gorgeous… but somehow I find that there’s something about her personality that doesn’t connect with me. Not to mention her musical choices haven’t been that great too… But good luck to her. Not every Idol gets a second chance with a big label.

LOL – during the SF auditions I played “Where’s Waldo” trying to find Allison in the background. Then during Group 2 performances it was fun to watch the guys hanging out in the background during some of the bad performances – like Adam and Jesse laughing along with Norman Gentle.

Kris literally got, maybe, 20 seconds of screen time during Hollywood Week – by far the least amount of ANYONE in the top 13 (and many who were just top 36). Wow – he certainly came out of nowhere!

  8. Is Danny’s Opry debut performance going to be broadcasted on TV?

I don’t think so. Not sure if they do any audio streaming through a local radio station, though. Maybe some videos will leak to youtube although I think the Opry policy is still pics only.
GAC or CMT also may give it some coverage since Danny is appearing as part of the big Sound and Speed weekend event with a lot of country music artists and NASCAR stars. There are two concerts Friday night, I think he will be singing at both? Actually hoping I can attend one of them at least.
And then Danny’s also participating in what sounds like a cool event Saturday where the country and NASCAR stars will be at a Nashville civic center with various displays and to do meet & greets, q&a’s with fans.

  9. Is Danny’s Opry debut performance going to be broadcasted on TV?

Doubtful but there should be some coverage of Sound & Speed on the CMT Insider and GAC’s Country Music Across America type shows. Saturday shows usually have live streams on WSM Online and XM. I think Chris Young and Rodney Crowell are doing the Saturday show but not Danny. I’m not sure about Fridays. I feel like Carrie’s had a Friday show at the Opry once last year though and if so then it was broadcast on WSM/XM.

Edit: Now I remember Carrie performed at the Opry on Oct 2nd. It was the Opry Goes Pink event which raised money to fight breast cancer. I’m pretty sure that was broadcast on WSM/XM.

GAC’s no longer doing Opry Live. They mutually agreed to broadcast 8-10 shows per year instead according to this article

The Grand Ole Opry Live series has been a staple of GAC’s programming with two dozen or more Saturday night shows a year broadcast for a number of years. Has that been scaled back now, and if so, why?

Starting on Dec. 19, we’ll do our first Opry Live show this year. And what we’re going to do now … we’ve both jointly decided to air fewer shows — but we’re going to do bigger shows. The first one will have Carrie Underwood and Jake Owen.

Through 2010, we’ll probably end up doing eight to 10 more shows. They will be bigger talent shows than they were before.

We feel it’s better television and better marketing. You tend to get bigger ratings with the bigger names. To try to fill up two dozen shows on a Saturday night with a strong lineup all the time … it was hard to book the top acts (consistently).

A good bet for the next Opry show that’s going to be broadcast is the one that’s happening on January 16th featuring Carrie Underwood, Emmylou Harris, and Dierks Bentley.

ITA. I think she’s made a good little album and kudos to her and Verve for taking the effort to find and create good songs. But I can’t imagine the album’s going to do well either. It’s January – is it even going to sell more than 10k 1st week? Part of the problem is they picked the wrong lead single IMO. Had It All is catchy but it’s easily the worst song on the album. I would’ve picked Now or It’s Not Right instead.

What about Myspace? I remember Carrie had one Opry show being streamed from Myspace recently. Was that a one-off thing?

  12. What about Myspace? I remember Carrie had one Opry show being streamed from Myspace recently. Was that a one-off thing?

It was a one off thing but I wouldn’t be surprised if sometime down the road the Opry signed a deal to make it a more regular event. The Opry’s definitely making some moves to improve its online exposure.

  13. Ooh, the promo for EM:HE looks good! And yay, DC looks cute!

NGL, I was a bit worried for DC’s hair for this episode because the taping happened that same 4-day period in which he also taped the Carrie Holiday special and went to the premiere for This Is It, and both times displayed the worst Cookie hair since before the Idol hair cut. Yes, my priorities are wack, cuz this is a great family the show is helping, but seriously, I was stressed about the hair =P…

  14. Aww, on the Cookie promo. What? It’s a promo for the show and not for him? Really? :)

there’s something about her personality that doesn’t connect with me.

This^^, for me, too, in regard to Kat. I feel as if there’s a wall up, and it reminds me of David Cook telling about how for the first few Idol eps he still had that wall up, and then the vocal coach convinced him to knock it down, and it made all the difference in connecting with audiences. I think it takes a lot of courage and self-awareness to be willing to try it, and even more to actually do it.

Thanks for this crumb…I haven’t heard anybody mention that promo. Turns out Jive has done pretty well by Kris.

  16. Yay for Cookie back on my TV!! Woo to the hoo!

LOL Yup, if we’re not stressing about the ginormous head, then we’re usually stressing about the tragic hair. Somehow, I think the two are inextricably linked. I mean, it’s entirely possible that he’d have enough hair for that noggin if he actually had a normal sized head, right? Okay, fine. Probably not. Heh.

  17. You all need to check out this video of Elliott singing Real Good Thing (Marc Broussard cover) at the Birchmere Sunday night….it’s awesome

Here’s A Song For You done A Cappella. Beautiful

Sway is doing background vocals for Elliott. He sounds fabulous too.

  18. Is Danny’s Opry debut performance going to be broadcasted on TV?

I don’t think so. Not sure if they do any audio streaming through a local radio station, though.

WSM in Nashville broadcasts the Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday Opry shows that our Idols have appeared on. They do broadcast over the internet, so I am sure you can catch Danny this way. Adjust the time to your time zones, as I believe the posted times on the site are all CT. Be sure to tune in about an hour before the broadcast, because they will most likely interview him. That is how I remember them doing it with Phil Stacey when he first appeared. Phil has appeared a total of 5 times on the show, with the 3rd time being on TV. He was also part of the 83rd anniversary festivities there. The Opry youtube account has his performance of “If You Didn’t Love Me.” I hope we can see Danny on “Opry Live” some day, should GAC broadcast the shows again. The link is http://www.wsmonline.com .

  19. IFRI take it neither Kris or Adam won pc awards. Please don’t let it be sb or Demi. I am sure it will b lady gaga. I can definitely with that over sb.

  20. Thanks for the update MJ. I amused you included Neil Patrick Harris. But now I know that I have to watch Jimmy Kimmel!

  21. LOL – during the SF auditions I played “Where’s Waldo” trying to find Allison in the background. Then during Group 2 performances it was fun to watch the guys hanging out in the background during some of the bad performances – like Adam and Jesse laughing along with Norman Gentle.

I was playing Where’s Waldo with Kris during Hollywood week. I saw him quite a few times, but only one performance. It’s interesting to watch the contestants, especially now that we know the top ones so much better. I almost wish he was wearing his Chrismas sweater so he’d be easier to find :)

Something I caught about Kris last night after the Top 36 performance was that Kara said something about how terrific he was during his solo during Hollywood week, she said something about him doing a Michael Buble song and doing a terrific arrangement on the guitar. It was interesting now knowing what he was capable of, like what he did with Heartless, that this was actually noticed by the judges that early, even though we didn’t see it. THough, I think they did show more of the Hollywood week performances in the last couple of shows.

It was funny how many finalists were in Group 3, it was like half the top 12. I think that group had all of the wildcards.

I thought Norman Gentile was hilarious, and I noticed Adam laughing also. I live in CT, and during last season, he was on my local Fox station quite a bit and I think he was there when the AI tour came to CT.

    LOL, me too with Kris.
Good thing in Hollywood week he mostly wore plaids.

But Kara on the top 36, saying MITM is the wrong song, completely wrong ( cut to Kris’ face grinning) and that she did not see Kris doing this. And almost everywhere he goes w/ the Jingle balls and radio stations things, he sings MITM. Incredibly !

Simon said that : “You are not the best singer out here “, and you can hear Kris agreeing to that. And then he said that” the chicks are going to love you” (cut to Katy’s and mama Allen applauding and laughing).

IMHO, yes Kris is not the strongest singer, but he is the best singer to my ears, and yep, he looks good and even hotter now. :)

  23. Something I caught about Kris last night after the Top 36 performance was that Kara said something about how terrific he was during his solo during Hollywood week, she said something about him doing a Michael Buble song and doing a terrific arrangement on the guitar.

I think the song is called “Everything”. I would really like to hear this–wish Kris would sing it sometime (since unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be video of his performance)!

I haven’t seen the Idol Rewind shows, but I did go thru MJ’s Top 13 tab above this afternoon and watched all Kris’ performances, the group performances, and the Ford commercials. It was my treat to me after getting everyone out of the house today. Anyway, it was amazing to watch Kris’ growth in performing week to week. And I loved how after he made top12, he looked up at his mom and wife and pointed at them. You could see Mama Allen mouthing “I love you” back at him. So cute and supportive! What a journey!
