Former ‘American Idol’ star will introduce new CD at local show – Joey Cook and her band the Party Raddlers tried to do a small-scale tour earlier this spring. The audiences enjoyed the music, but there was one problem. “I would always feel bad after the show,” the singer said, “because people would ask about buying the record and we’d have to say, ‘Oh, it’s not out yet.'” The problem has been solved. Cook’s new CD, “The Variety Show,” comes out on Monday, and she will celebrate it that night with a show at Hoss’s Deli in Newport News where audience members will be able to purchase the first copies. – Read more at Daily Press.com

‘Amazing Race’ Producers Size Up Emmy Rival ‘The Voice’ (Exclusive Video) – “The Amazing Race” has dominated the Outstanding Reality Competition category since its inception, winning 10 out of 13 times. However, in the last four years, “The Voice” has won twice, including last year.
The producers of the globe-trotting CBS competition are determined to reclaim TV’s top prize. “With all respect to the other shows, it’s much easier to shoot a show on a shiny floor stage than go to jungles of Brazil or Africa, or being in the snow in Siberia,” van Munster told TheWrap. “[To] tell a story and do this in three weeks and 35,000 or 40,000 miles — it’s a very difficult show to produce,” he added. Keoghan, who watches “The Voice,” sees a structural flaw in the categorization. – Read more at The Wrap

Nick Cannon on Landing ‘America’s Got Talent’ Hosting Gig, Wildest Reality TV Moments – During The Hollywood Reporter’s Reality TV Roundtable, Cannon revealed that he had been promoting 2008’s American Son at the Sundance Film Festival around the time the hosting gig was offered to him.
“I was never thinking about it, [but] I really dug the show and loved the idea. They were like, ‘You’re promoting a film and we’re trying to win awards. Tell me one award-winning actor you know that hosts a reality show,'” the rapper-actor recalled to THR. “I don’t care about all of that. I want to do what I want to do, and I want to have fun. It was one of the best decisions I ever [made].” – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Keith Urban’s Hard Road – “They know me now as being married to Nic,” he says. “They’ve seen me on TV. And they just sort of think, ‘He’s the luckiest guy in the world.'” Which it’s hard not to. Movie premieres with Kidman, four Grammys, 10 Country Music Awards, a Golden Globe nomination, a stable of cars that includes a Bugatti with paddle shifters. And yet, he says, “There’s just so much shit underneath all that that you didn’t see.” In truth, the hard times were harder than almost anyone except his wife knows, and more desperate, and more frightening, up to the point of should-I-live-or-should-I-die, with him favoring the latter. “No, man,” he says later on, “I didn’t just walk into this gig.” And then he proceeds to open up a little bit about some of the stuff that happened. – Read more at Rolling Stone
