Keith Urban Trademark Lawsuit Tossed Out of Court – Remember that dumb lawsuit British Songwriter filed against Keith Urban? The dude, who leads a band named “Player” sued Keith for trademark violation, charging that Keith named his QVC guitar line “Player” after the band player performed on the ABC soap. General Hospital (??!!!?) The judge had the same reaction that we did, and dismissed the suit. U.S. District Judge Manuel Real wrote this week that the common use of the word “Player” in describing all sorts of goods and services is “indicative of the weakness” of the claim. Duh! ‘America’s Got Talent’ Gives Benton Blount a Second Chance at Success – Shows like America’s Got Talent and The Voice give seasoned performers who once were on a solid track in the music business–but were derailed for one reason or another–a second chance. Benton Blount had a record deal in Nashville. Half-way through a radio tour, his label went under, and that was that. Heartbreakingly, the song he was promoting, “Carolina,” became a hit for Parmalee three years later. Benton was approached by America’s Got Talent scouts after they came across his videos online. He was accepted after auditioning via Skype with an original song. Billboard charts a course that’s similar to last year’s runner-up, Emily West and The Voice 8 runner-up, Meghan Linsey.
