Headlines: Idol Singer Zooms from a Boat, Niall Horan Felt Like a Prisoner

Carrie Underwood Deepens Her Musical Legacy With ‘My Savior’ [Interview] – When it came to picking which hymns to record, Underwood says it was no easy task. “We had a big list,” she says. “I definitely had my pillars, like ‘How Great Thou Art,’ I wanted to have a proper studio recording of that, and ‘Softly And Tenderly’ and ‘Just As I Am.’ “We tried to go about it having some of my absolute favorites, but we also wanted to make it a musical journey as you would an album. We wanted to have places to go and have a little bit of tempo and things that we could do differently as far as instrumentation to give enough variety. So it was tough, but I’m very happy with the ones we ended up recording.” The hymns are carefully arranged, adding elements of classic country, church music, folk, and bluegrass. “Amazing Grace” is translated as a sing-along campfire song, featuring harmonies from Underwood’s family and friends. – Read more at MusicRow

Park City’s Wyatt Pike to Bring Big Band Energy to ‘American Idol’ on Sunday Night – His last performance was a duet with Cassandra Coleman singing Alex Clare’s “Too Close.” Pike had received accolades for making his duet partner feel safe and comfortable. “I think in all of our duets, it was pretty difficult just diving into this with someone that you were just meeting,” he said. “But honestly Cassandra is incredibly talented. I think we were both really nervous. The relationship that we built through that duet, I think made me feel really calm and then I think maybe that was shared with her. I think she’s incredible and I’m so glad that she thought I’d made her feel safe. But it was great working with her.” – Read more at KPCW

One Direction’s Niall Horan felt like a prisoner to the ‘madness’ of fan obsession

When asked in a recent interview with British media personality Dermot O’Leary if he ever felt “like a prisoner” at the beginning of the English boy band’s rise to prominence, Horan admitted he did “a couple of times” — particularly as the group evolved from being a fan-favorite act on The X-Factor to a worldwide force in pop music in 2011, which led to the “proper hysteria” of hordes of fans swarming their hotel suits, press tours, and even “banging on car windows” as they drove by. “I struggled with the idea of, why won’t you just let us out? We just want to go for a walk, you know?” he remembered. “But, you can’t get inside the brain of a fan, and now I completely get it, but at the time, you’re like, you’re our age! Just let us out! We just want to walk down the street. You must understand!” – Read more at Entertainment Weekly
