‘American Idol’ Finalist Sonika Vaid on Her Parents, Stage Fright, and Healing – Growing up in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, Sonika Vaid never craved the limelight. “I had so many opportunities to sing when I was a little kid, and I never took them up,” Vaid told NBC News. “I was just really comfortable being behind the piano because I would play upright piano, and I could perform in assemblies, and no one would see my face.” The 20-year-old pre-medical student has since performed onstage in front of the world, singing her way to the top eight in the 15th and final season of Fox’s “American Idol.” – Read more at NBC.com

Adam Lambert gets personal – You did a bit of acting on “Glee,” and I read that you’re going to be in the live TV broadcast of “The Rocky Horror Show.” When I heard about the project, I was so excited. They originally came to me to play Dr. Frankenfurter. I was flattered and [thought] that would be fun, but I thought for me, a white man, to play a transgender role feels like, in 2016, doesn’t feel appropriate. It’s been such an amazing time for the trans community and the liberation for that group. So I’m happy that they’ve cast Laverne Cox as Frankenfurter, because I think that is brilliant and brave casting. You can’t really re-create Tim Curry. He’s so iconic in that role and so funny and lovely. It’s smart to go in a different way. – Read more at South Florida

Colton Dixon reminiscences his ‘American Idol’ days – Although he had accepted the Christian faith early on in life, his trust in God was challenged in the eleventh season of the TV show. He recalled, “I remember being on ‘American Idol’ and feeling so disconnected and so alone,” and due to his hectic schedule he did not get the chance to speak to his parents and friends. Despite the moment of falter, he was able to get the reassurance and courage that he needed from God. – Read more at Daily News

Country To Country: Has Nashville conquered the UK? – The genre used to be something of a joke in the UK – all rhinestones, ten-gallon hats, line dances and honkeytonks – but now artists like Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood and Lady Antebellum are permanent fixtures in the album chart. At the heart of it all is the Country To Country (C2C) music festival, launched at London’s O2 arena in March 2013 (March was picked because it falls outside country’s peak summer touring season in the US). The first year, headlined by Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood, failed to break even but the artists went away impressed. “It was so much fun,” recalls Underwood – a former American Idol winner with 22 US number one singles to her name. “I felt the audience was very responsive and they seemed to have a really great time.” Fast-forward to 2016 and the festival has expanded to a three-day event, held simultaneously in London, Glasgow and Dublin. – Read more at the BBC

Gwen Stefani Climbs Back From the Abyss – After a few weeks in the studio, Ms. Stefani returned to her other job on “The Voice,” burdened with knowing her marital issues had not yet become public. “I’m not a secret girl,” she explained. “I tell everybody when my period is coming.” But she soon learned that Mr. Shelton, whom she refers to as “one of my co-workers,” was also in the throes of a personal crisis. He “had been going through literally the exact same thing in literally the exact same time frame,” she said. Her friendship with him blossomed. Her collaborators noticed a change instantly. “We had anger, we had sadness, we had flirtation, we had sexy, and now we’re madly in love,” Mr. Tranter said. Ms. Stefani described the shift with one of her frequently used terms — “crazy!” — and added, “Never in my wildest, craziest dreams would I ever have seen this coming.” – Read more at The New York Times
