Jennifer Hudson Shows off her EGOT

The American Idol alum just received her Tony for producing the Broadway show A Strange Loop (Best Musical) in the mail. The latest trophy made her any EGOT winner. Only 17 have earned all four major awards: Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Tony. Jennifer won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Effie in Dreamgirls. She’s won two Grammys, for best musical theater album for The Color Purple, in 2017, and best R&B album for Jennifer Hudson, in 2009 and a Daytime Emmy as executive producer on the VR animated film Baby Yaga.

Former ‘American Idol’ contestant Lauren Spencer Smith proves there’s more than one way to the top of the charts – Lauren Spencer Smith doesn’t want to say I told you so. But she did. She told you so. In 2020, the former “American Idol” contestant was invited to audition for the series when producers saw a Facebook video of her singing Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” (which has now been streamed more than 35 million times). In her official audition, the then 16-year-old left judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie speechless with a stunning rendition of Pink’s “What About Us.” Yet, she was inexplicably cut from the competition in the Top 20 round. “When I got kicked off ‘American Idol,’ people didn’t believe in me like the way that I believed in myself,” Spencer Smith told the Star. “It definitely was a kick-start to ‘Yeah, I’m gonna prove everybody wrong.’” – Read more at The Star

American Idol’s Brooke White chronicles trip to Utah to see David Archuleta in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor dreamcoat.

Brooke and David competed in American Idol season 7 together and have remained friends. Brooke posted a montage of her road trip to Tuacahn Center for the Arts in Ivins, Utah to see David play the titular role. “WOW WOW WOW. Three wows for my dear pal @davidarchie in this role, in this production, with this cast at this theater! I grew up listening to the soundtrack with Donny Osmond, and was truly obsessed with it, but never got to see it! When I heard that David was going to be Joseph, my mind exploded, Brooke wrote on Instagram.

“Of course I would have enjoyed this show given that I know all the music, but seeing David on that stage, twirling with his arms out wide in that beautiful coat of many colors, owning it and loving it and having fun brought it to another level. Hearing his special voice soar through every song (close every door!) brought so much freakin joy to my heart and tears to my eyes. Also, this is his first musical !? and this role, at this moment just couldn’t have been a better fit…He is free and it shows.”
