The Voice Season 14 Recap: Top 8 Performance Live Blog (VIDEO)

Blake Shelton, will perform his new single, “I Lived It,” from his hit record “Texoma Shore” that was released late last year. Kane Brown  will perform his No. 1 platinum-selling hit “Heaven.” and Panic! At The Disco will perform “Say Amen (Saturday Night)” off their forthcoming album Pray for the Wicked, out on June 22.

Blake has sent a contestant to the finale 12 out of 13 finales. He says it starts in the Blind Auditions. Got to find the right contestants! Also need to be collaborative with the team members. Kelly got a pretty upswept do with bangs going tonight! Alicia talks about bonding with her team. “We feed each other,” she says. Adam says Rayshun survives week after week, he doesn’t allow challenges to get him down.

The Top 8 take center stage! DUMB DUMB QUESTIONS. What is the moment like for Rayshun? Geez so dumb. “I’m just so happy to be here!” he gushes. Brynn’s favorite experience has been meeting all her talented fellow contestants. Zzzz.

The first artist saved by America is…SPENSHA BAKER. WHAT A SURPRISE. It’s the Bloodbath y’all ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. All bets are off, people. Spensha’s mouth just…she could not have been more surprised.

Next, Kane Brown takes the stage to perform his latest single, “Heaven.” I do not like the tone of Kane’s voice. Not at all. Ugh. His vocal on the verses. Just bugs. But he produces hits, including a No 1 duet with American Idol alum Lauren Alaina

The seven remaining singers take the stage. Quick dumb question for Jackie. Blah blah blah…she’s so thankful to everyone voting. Blah. OK. Your second finalist is...Brynn Cartelli!!! OMG if the third singer is Pryor Baird I’m gonna punch myself in the face.

Next, it’s a clip featuring reigning winner Chloe Kohanski. She talks about her life after winning the show. She’s been travelling all over the country recording her debut album. She’s releasing a new single, “Come This Far,” timed with next week’s finale.

Panic! At the Disco are next, performing their new song  “Say Amen (Saturday Night)” Alicia is enjoying herself.

Time to announce the THIRD finalist….and it is…Kyla Jade.  Kyla having to sing for the save would have been really REALLY surprising considering her No 2 showing on iTunes Monday night.

Next Blake Shelton is here to sing his latest hit “I Lived It.”

Next, Carson announces the three singers who will perform for the Instant Save: Britton Buchanan, Kaleb Lee and Pryor Baird.  Rayshun Lamarr and Jackie Foster are eliminated. Team Adam is completely shut out!

Pryor Baird – Soulshine by Allman Brothers – OH  GOOD. He doesn’t have the pimp spot. Not that it helped Britton last night. Pryor performs a perfectly acceptable version of this 70’s classic.  But that’s the problem. He delivers bar band versions of the classics, albeit with very good stage presence. Blake is greedy. He wants three singers in the final. OH HELL NO. Blake is surprised that he didn’t advance to begin with.

Kaleb Lee – Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd – Second verse, same as the first. I’m thinking the country music fans will split between these VERY similar performances. And again. It’s a perfectly reasonable cover of a 70’s classic. But there’s nothing new going on here. Kelly isn’t nervous, because she knows America sees what she sees. “You gotta vote for Kaleb!” she says.

Britton Buchanan – Dancing on My Own by Robyn – ONE OF THESE THINGS IS NOT LIKE THE OTHER. Britton brings real artistry to the stage. HE DESERVES TO ADVANCE. Period. Smart to perform an emotional ballad. And he’s singing like his entire life depends on it. Sure there were some wobbles. But so much emotion. GO BRITTON. Alicia says “You gave me whole body chills.” OH WOW. Adam just asked America to vote for Britton! Remember: Alicia BLOCKED Adam from turning for Britton back in the Blinds.

Britton’s Got this! When the vote graphic was taken down, he was sitting at 47% Pryor at 31% and Kaleb at 22%.

Blake’s final words for Pryor: There are no final words! “We’re friends and whether your journey ends here…I’m backing you.” He added, “I’m shocked to even see you in this position…but you know what dude…we’ll be talking whether we’re rehearsing or talking about what’s next.” Kelly’s final words for Kaleb: Her goal on the show is to give back to a contestant what was given to her 16 years ago (when she won that show-that-will-not-be-named) “I’m not going to cry…if he gets through right now or he doesn’t, I’ve got songs I’m collecting. Major writers, major producers interested in you. This is not the defining moment. The defining moment is what you do after this show and I will be there with you.” Alicia’s final words for Britton: She thanks America for voting him this far. “You are the voice that music is made of–rawness, realness, truth and honesty…I’m so excited for your future.”

And the winner of the Instant Save is Britton Buchanan!

So, tons of drama tonight, but in the end, I’m real happy with the ENTIRE Final Four. No complaints . Bummed that Britton had to sing for the save, but hey–we got a cool Robyn cover out of it! Silver linings.

Still, Spensha Baker advancing straight to the final is curious. Her performance last night got mixed reviews. As far as iTunes rankings are concerned, she was generally middling. I’m sure it helped she was a member of Team Blake and sang country songs (albeit in a very soulful way). However, fellow team member Pryor Baird could also be considered a country artist? A fan (thanks @DjoskeSpeaking) reminded me on twitter that her social statistics  were really good Monday night. Hm. So, probably the combination of being a country singing member of Team Blake and performing a very popular duet with a popular artist contributed to her success.

Final Four

  • Spensha Baker
  • Brynn Cartelli
  • Kyla Jade
  • Britton Buchanan – Saved by America

Eliminated

  • Rayshun Lamarr
  • Jackie Foster
  • Pryor Baird – Lost Instant Save
  • Kaleb Lee – Lost Instant Save
