With 64.03% of reports in, Wale takes over the top of the sales chart. This will be the third week in a row that rappers have topped the chart and it will be the first time in over a year where two different rap albums topped the chart in a row. “The Album About Nothing” will be Wale’s second BB200 topping album. His current album is predicted to do 85-90K in sales with his previous album 158K.
Kendrick Lamar is currently on fifth, but should end the week in second. Ludacris will be third so that will make an all rap top 3. Darius Rucker, formally Hootie, is currently holding down third on the chart, but is predicted to slide to fifth on the final chart. Death Cab for Cutie represents the Alt Rockers for 4th now and on the final chart. That makes 4 debuts in the top 5.
Furious 7 raked in some serious dollars at the box office this weekend and it looks like people like the soundtrack too. It’s currently at 6th. There are no reality singers I can identify on the album, not even singing the hooks. But the number one dude this week (Wale) is on there. Quite a week for him. The Hollywood Undead is working the Rap Rock vein (I do not make up these genres) and these guys all wear masks (kind of going for a cross of the Zombie/Horror Movie/Hockey Goalie crowd). Sam Smith is holding down 8th and Three Days Grace (just plain old Rock) is debuting at 9th. Taylor Swift grips onto the top 10 at 10th.
The only reality singing show competitors in the top 50 are Kelly Clarkson at 27th and One Direction at 48th. Empire stopped defying gravity and has slid to 16th. Now 53 features a track from One Direction while the ACM Awards CD has Carrie and Kelly. Finally, the judges are represented by Adam Levine whose Maroon 5 is at 12th.
