HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Jan 19-25

With 81.61% of reports in, Fall Out Boy is set to have their third number 1 album. “American Beauty/American Psycho” will actually sell more than their previous album from 2013 “Save Rock and Roll” which debuted with 154K. Already, their new album has reported sales of 167K with sales expected to be in the 190K range (SPS predicted to be about 220K). This is another great opening for a January album. BTW part of the promo for this album included performing with Voice runner-up (and most successful seller) Matt on last season’s finale.

Taylor Swift is expected to stay in 2nd with 80-90K in sales that will hold for the combined chart. Meghan Trainor was number one last week and should end the week in third on both chart with a reasonable second week drop-off.

Hip-hop artist Joey Bada$$ (because it is so badass to substitute dollar signs for “S”s – I think Kei$ha kind of killed that badass cred) will have the second highest debut album with a respectable for January first week of 50-55K in 4th (dropping to 5th on the combined chart). Other debuts in the top 10 are shock rocker Marilyn Manson, 2015 Grammy Nominees and The Decemberists all tied with about 40-45K in sales which is about the same range as Kidz Bop for 5th through eighth. Lupe Fiasco was predicted to sell 30-35K for 9th, but his album is currently in 7th with 31K in sales, so perhaps it could have done better than predicted?

Ed Sheeran is holding done spot number 10 with “X” reporting 30K in sales, but expected to rise to 4th on the SPS chart.

For reality singing show competitors, we have One Direction at 22nd, Carrie Underwood at 29th and Ella Henderson at 38th. Final X-Facotr US winners Alex and Sierra have a track on the Now 52 album at 28th. Voice Judges represent with Adam Levine’s Maroon V at 18th and Blake Shelton at 27th.
