HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Feb 17-23

With 70.38% of reports in, the soundtrack from “Frozen” is set to chart the top for the 5th non-consecutive week. The album has amazingly consistent weekly sales with upticks for special events like Valentine’s Day. Eric Church who was number one last week has slid down to number two.

Right behind Eric is another Country artist, Cole Swindell. This is Cole’s debut album and he will have the top debut of the week. Up until now, Cole has had a successful writing career and two of his songs include Idol’s Scotty McCreery’s “Water Tower Town” and “Carolina Eyes”. Cole nicely timed his album release with his single hitting number one on the Country Airplay charts last week. He should have 60-65K in sales.

Queen B Beyonce is 5th while Queen Bee Lorde is 6th. Katy Perry is not a dark horse at 7th, Phantogram (electronic rock duo – the band is named after an optical illusion) is currently debuting at 9th and Issues (metalcore) is debuting their self-titled album in 10th.

Last year’s American Idol winner is finally releasing her album. Candice Glover’s album was delayed a few times for various reasons and HITS predicted last week that she would be in the top 15 with about 16-18k in sales. That’s low for an Idol winner. Really low. It’s also the latest that an album has been released since Idol started airing in the spring. It’s possible that she may exceed predictions because of media that she did last week. The late release, iTunes glitch and meh season of Idol have all conspired to produce these numbers. Jordin Spark was able to salvage something from an unloved season by having an earlier release and a couple of very successful singles – Candice did not get the singles. Lee also didn’t get the singles, but for now he’s not the worst selling winner. What is it with the third seasons (3,6,9,12)? It’s like the producers lose their collective minds. First season – let’s try something new. Second season – that worked let’s do it again. Third Season: We did not like how we lost control, let’s go crazy with manipulation – dial it to 11. Oops, reset.

Now 49 at 4th also features some reality singing show contestants. X-Factor’s One Direction and Simone Battle (as part of G.R.L.) each have a track on that album. One Direction itself is holding steady at 23rd on the chart.

The Voice is represented by judge Blake Shelton at 36th.
