Haley Reinhart has released a recording of Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart.” The singer first performed the song on Top 9 night as an American Idol season 10 contestant in 2011. The new version features her sexy, soulful, bluesy vocals up front and center.
“This song and I have history,” Haley explained to Vents magazine. “At this point in my life, it actually feels like it has a piece of my heart.”
She grew up listening to her mother, also a singer, “bring the house down…with her powerful vocals, and my dad shredding guitar right next to her…” Haley further explains that her parents and their band “Midnight” “have always picked the most quintessential yet eclectic songs to perform that define classic rock.” She added, “Piece of My Heart takes me right back home with them in Chicago.” And fittingly, her parents appear on the cover.
“I also chose to perform it live on American Idol when I was on the show,” said Haley, “which allowed me to showcase my rock n roll roots.”
These days, Haley performs the song live with her own band on tour. She also performs with “rock legends” such as Robby Krieger from The Doors. “I can’t escape this song no matter where I go!”
Next for Haley: Due to the coronavirus pandemic, she postponed her U.S. and European tours, but they will be rescheduled at a later date. Check haleyreinhart.com/tour.
