UPDATE: So…maybe The Glee Project ISN’T cancelled. Oxygen released a statement: “What TVLine reported was speculation. ‘The Glee Project’ has not been cancelled.” According to The Wrap, the decision is still on hold pending renewal of Glee for a 5th season. It’s cutting it rather close, though, isn’t it? Summer is just around the corner. In prior seasons, the producers were already deep in production by now.
The Glee Project will not be returning to Oxygen for a 3rd season, reports TV Line.
Although the cable network declined to comment, sources confirm that a number of factors — not the least of which is that Glee itself hasn’t been renewed yet — contributed to the decision to shelve the reality spin-off.
Ratings also likely played a part. Despite favorable reviews and a passionate following, the series was a modest performer for Oxygen.
Oh well. Although the talent the show brought to Glee was uneven, as a reality show, The Glee Project was extremely entertaining.
