  1. OMG if David has the sense to do a stripped down version of Simon’s choice that could be incredible.

  2. A stripped down performance is exactly what I wanted for Cook. If Cook pulls Simon’s choice off well, it could very well be a “moment.”

  3. Leona Lewis covered that one on her album. Not that we didn’t know this already, but DC is sooo “Daddy’s” favorite kid.

The Collective Soul seems like kind of a blah choice, but I really liked that song back in my h.s. days so no bitching from me. =)

  4. I’m curious and excited about what Cookie is going to do with Simon’s choice. That could sure be swoon-worthy for the cooktards. Aww. ;)

I used to like Collective Soul when I was younger, too, and remember enjoying that song. With Cookie’s spin, it should be very interesting. I hope he is in top form when he performs next week.

Dang, that Simon is just shrewd; hitting two birds with one stone, indeed. Here comes Leona’s version to the top of the charts!

  5. I love both of the choices for DC. The Collective Soul selection reflects the type of song he might do as a recording artist. I think that song might be his “moment”–it’s going to be very emotional.

  6. Doesn’t Michael Johns have a Collective Soul connection? It would be cool if DC got to talk to the band about the song.

star – Ha! I thought Simon would have DC sing “Bleeding Love.” I’m sure he’ll manage to mention that Leona Lewis has a version of “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.”

  7. Well, we knew that Simon would go the easy listener/AC route with his song choice.

I’ve been checking iTunes, youtube and wiki and I can’t find anybody who rocked that one out. Looks like David Cook might be the first. Elvis did a version, but it was one of his ballads. Johnny Cash did a nice version. Otherwise, it’s pretty much the Celine/Leona crowd covering this one. I accidently clicked on a pan flute version of this one and so I’m going to be needing some brain bleach.

He can probably do something with it. Turn it into another emo ode to stalkerdom or something. I’m sure David Cook can survive this choice.

  8. When I first read the choice from Simon for David Cook, I thought I must have read it wrong. I thought it must be a song for Syesha. But after my doubletake, I think it’s a brilliant selection for DC. Simon knows what he is doing.

  9. ya i wasnt to sure about it till i listened to a few alternative versions of it on youtube

  10. wow. This has the potential to be brain-meltingly awesome. Simon knows exactly what the fangirls want from DC. Total panty-dropper.

  11. Yay, we got Simon! His song choice totally fits with David’s whole “WTFyou’resingingTHAT?” pattern so far :D

I like DC’s personal choice too.

Now only to see what producer’s choice is…

  12. Is the “producer’s choice” typically a song that the contestant has previously sung? I can’t remember from previous years.

  13. I wish he chose Shine by Collective Soul instead that’s an awesome song!

  14. Simon was really kind to Cookie, as this is a song that won’t require any sharp phrasing or rhythmic emphasis. The shock value of him growling through it will set the stage for the comments you expect.

  15. Here’s the original Collective Soul version:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rW6Px8WmN8

Yes, back to form. And Simon is no dummy: he knows that when DC sings a sensitive, well-crafted ballad, he really scores. DC is also far too smart a Cookie to muck up “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” (a wonderful folkie song from the 1960s, before Roberta Flack recorded it) with too much instrumentation or an inappropriate beat. It’s a ballad.

By the way, the Brit folk singer Ewan McCall wrote the original for his wife Peggy Seeger, the sister of the great troubadour Pete Seeger.

Wish I could find online McCall’s beautiful, spare acoustic version. But here’s a good arrangement by the British folksy soulful singer Alison Moyet:

    You Tube

  16. I just listened to those two songs and they are both pretty SLLLLLOOOOOOWWWWWWW. Any chance the producers will pick something with a little bit of pep for DC?

If DA ends up with three ballads as well, I think I’m going to have to stock up on those chocolate espresso beans.

Maybe Syesha can sneak through with an uptempo song.

  17. just for strategy sake, I hope the producers come up with a classicuptempo rock number from that ill-used Hall of Fame list for Cookie. I still want to hear him sing The Beach Boys, Steve Miller, whatever…..

  18. I think he could rock up The World I Know a little. But Simon’s choice definitely needs to be extremely stripped down w/just the acoustic guitar.

Hey, there’s always Nigel’s choice! ::cringe::

  19. I LOVE both of these songs for DC. He’s going to be amazing. I hope that he gets to go last and have a “moment,” ’cause that would be the icing on the cake!

  20. There’s a rumor that producers choice is “American Woman” (Lenny Kravitz).

  21. ^ Hmm, originally by The Guess Who. I wonder if that means he’s doing the Kravitz version?

    Could be another great choice!

  22. I have no idea where the “American Woman” thing came from. Someone mentioned it on the live chat on the Fox KC site, but I wouldn’t believe it just yet. (It is lame enough to be Nigel’s choice, I guess).

David should get to go last this week, as Archie had the pimp spot last week, and Syesha the week before.

  23. I hope American Woman is true and that he does it Lenny Kravitz style. HAWT.

  24. American Woman is HOT! I’m shocked the producers would actually pick something like that if true.

  25. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a rumor that producers choice is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Womanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Lenny Kravitz).

That’s a great choice…if you want to sabotage someone. Seriously? This is like Jesus Christ Superstar. There are a lot of people who are offended by that song. How are you supposed to win AMERICAN Idol singing an “anti-American” song?

I mean it’s a great song and I love it, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t others who will take offense.

LOL Here is some of what Jim Kale of “The Guess Who” had to say on the matter: We weren’t anti-anything. John Lennon once said that the meanings of all songs come after they are recorded. Someone else has to interpret them.

Guess Who singing American Woman in 1970

  26. Thank you, Preston, for clarifying the producer’s choice thing for me.

  27. I’m not really to fond of any of those. :( I want another Billie Jean/Hello moment dangit!

I just hope Syesha stays away from Whitney or maybe I do want her to sing Whitney. *eg*

I think David A should sing I Hate Everything About You by Ugly Kid Joe. :mrgreen_wp:

  28. geesh I’m not getting anything done today at work, and it isn’t even Tuesday or Wednesday….

so if you want to track DC’s homecoming events (and they really have pulled out the stops for him in Kansas City), this is a good link — it has all the vids from TV and appearances, and live streaming for the events:

    http://media.myfoxkc.com/idol/index.html

The most impressive thing to me was hearing him alone at Light and Power park, with an acoustic guitar, tear into “Living on a Prayer” and especially “You’ll Always Be My Baby.” The guy needs nothing fancy to really get it going. He’s also so overwhelmed by the big crowd he tears up…….I love me some rocker marshmallow!

  29. I want another Billie Jean/Hello moment dangit!

True. But, in all fairness, we didn’t even know that those would be moments until he actually sang them.

  30. I just saw elsewhere that Paula picked I Am Changing from Dream Girls for Syesha.

    Your right GwendolynD.

  31. Ugh. Syesha had better not ruin my song. I heard she also sang “Listen” from Dreamgirls at one of her events.

She should have given her something jazzier – like Etta James, or something. Jennifer Hudson she is not.

  32. Collete, I haven’t gotten much done all week! Lately it doesn’t matter what day of the week it is!

  33. If it is “I Am Changing”, then Paula wrecked another contestant. A song way too big for sy…..

  34. Syesha gets “I Am Changing”? Ugh. Everyone is going to remember Hudson’s version and honestly, Syesha is NOT Jennifer Hudson.

  35. I just saw elsewhere that Paula picked I Am Changing from Dream Girls for Syesha.

Tyson, the Syesha insider at IDF, says that spoiler is false.

  36. Syesha’s fax just came from Hollywood, according to the live stream. Should hear something soon.

  37. I have a feeling the songs picked for them, and the huge shot of adrenalin from the hometown stuff is going to rev these folks up for their next show. hope so anyway.

Hey, I got an idea for you Nigel: why don’t you junk the stupid q & a things, and go visit the homes of some of these contestants at varied times during the competition? Like the top 24, the top 10 and finally the top 3. It’d be a lot more interesting! how about interviewing their music teacher or their former bandmates or whatever? and stop trying to pretend they’ve never done anything before, and look at their musical past a little?

And while we’re at it: some of these people need song therapists! I know the coaches at AI try to help, and the decisions should be left to the contestants in part to show how truly musically savvy they are. But I would have loved to see Tony Bennett or Neil Diamond or other mentors actually PICK songs for them….

  38. Tyson, the Syesha insider at IDF, says that spoiler is false.

Good! I hope the American Woman spoiler is false as well!

  39. It was just annouced that randy chose syesha’s song and its

“If I aint got you” by Alicia keys.

  40. It was just annouced that randy chose syeshaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s song and its

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“If I aint got youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ by Alicia keys.

Man I love that song. She could do it justice, just don’t scream it and she’ll be good.

Wow. Syesha just might make the finals!

  41. It’s become clear over the past few seasons that Alicia Keys is every bit the deathtrap for would-be divas that Whitney and Mariah are, and we might as well cue the trap door for Syesha right now. For all her “improvement,” it’s abundantly clear that Syesha’s true limitations come out on the non-belting parts of a song (see “A Change is Gonna Come”). “If I Ain’t Got You” requires great ability in negotiating different tempos, and I don’t see Syesha succeeding at that. If she pulls it off, I will be very impressed.

  42. I wish Simon had picked Baby, I’m Amazed, by Paul McCartney for David to sing. That would have been, well, amazing! hee! I think he’ll do fine with First Time… though. It has the potential to be dreary if not done well. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I love that Collective Soul song, but I’m not sure how it will translate on the AI stage, though. Again, not much melody to grab onto. His song selections the last few weeks have me puzzled.

  43. If she pulls it off, I will be very impressed.

I actually like her better when she’s NOT belting. I think she does the soft melody stuff pretty well. Its when she belts that I feel like I’m being yelled at. LOL.

I think if she does a non-power ballad-y version, just her and a piano, slowed down, she could be very good.

But knowing Syesha, she will go straight to the chorus and do it all yell-y like. Sigh.

  44. Actually Syesha performed this song when she was on abc’s “the one”. The youtube video is taken down if anyone could find the performance of it

  45. Good Bye Sy. AK songs are like stepping into a giant pit. Sy will oversing and it won’t be pretty.

  46. re: Simon’s pick for DC. I think Simon is looking for a straight take on this song, not a rocked up version. I think he wants DC to make it “new” but sing it like the ballad it is. After Simon said yesterday the he hope to pick DC’s song and “push him in another direction”, this is my take on reading Simon’s mind….always a slippery slope I know.

I agree Baxter. And my guess is that Cookie will sing this one straight.

  48. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“First Time Ever I Saw Your Faceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is mine and my hubby’s favorite song.
    Wow, thank you Simon!!!!!!

Yep. There’s a soul edge to David Cook’s voice that he hasn’t explored just yet. I think Simon hears that. If DC does it correctly, it could be every bit as good as MJ’s “It’s All Wrong But It’s All Right”.

  50. Does that seem fair that Randy picked a song for Syesha that she has already performed? Gives her a bit of an advantage, I think. Doesn’t have to learn a brand new song, and obviously a song she enjoys singing.

  51. Check out the YouTube I posted here earlier Bax, That is an example of the phrasing he could use to hit a real home run. Maybe poetry later….

  52. Why didn’t they choose a Latin song for Syesha — she’s half Cuban for god’s sake! Let the Latin blood come out. AKeys is way too big for her. Kiss of death kiss of death.

  53. I like Simon’s choice for Cookie, and agree he should sing it straight. I am not as enthused about the Collective Soul song. Hopefully, he’ll change my mind.

  54. Why didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t they choose a Latin song for Syesha à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s half Cuban for godà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sake! Let the Latin blood come out. AKeys is way too big for her. Kiss of death kiss of death.

It’s a little to late to pander for the latino vote, don’t you think? She got this far without reaching that degree of shameless. After last week’s civil rights struggle in ME foolishness, that would be just all kinds of desperate. Besides, isn’t Archuletta latino?

Well, she’s got a free choice this week….

  56. Ok I’m completely bummed that Paula is picking for David A. I feel protective for the little feller and I just don’t like Syesha. I teared up with her the other night but then she lost me again with her “politicking”.

  57. Why would Randy be choosing for Syesha? Why would he choose a song she has already done, on another television show no less?

I watched ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ when it was posted on YouTube and I couldn’t have been that imopressed because I never watched it more than once.

  58. So, Paula’s picking for little D, eh?

Fun (or not so fun, depending) fact: The contestant for whom Paula has chosen the song on top 3 night has never won the competition. Simon and Randy are both 3 for 6.

I’m surprised that Randy didn’t get to choose for DA. The level of love Randy has for him is unmatched by anything I’ve ever seen. It’s kind of weird, actually.

  59. Doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Michael Johns have a Collective Soul connection? It would be cool if DC got to talk to the band about the song.

I believe you’re right, Cheese. I’m sure I read something in that Atlanta blog about one of the band members showing up backstage. I like the song but am not sure it’s the best way to highlight his voice.

I just found out today that “American Woman” was controversial, Kirsten. I lived in Canada for a long time but was born here and I never thought anything of it other than I liked it. I think he’d sound really good on it.

  60. Crap, I was hoping Randy got to pick for Archie, Paula oh well.

Alicia is not a true belter in the Whitney/Celine vein. That is a nice pick for Syesha.

Cookie, glad you guys like that choice, cause to me it’s just a step away from trying to pop him up for his upcoming cd. I would say he could be Biced. If this were Paula or Randy’s choice I would really wonder why? I question Simon’s taste in music sometimes, I really do.

  61. I love me some Alicia Keys. Please dont ruin it Syesha. I like the picks for DC. He should do awesome.

  62. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a soul edge to David Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice that he hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t explored just yet. I think Simon hears that. If DC does it correctly, it could be every bit as good as MJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s All Wrong But Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s All Rightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

Yep. When Bax emailed me the song choice this morning (since I can’t get to mj’s from work and couldn’t watch any of the live streams today – Bax, you are a saint!!), my first thought was a big, fat WTF. But then, I thought – you know what… this is a gorgeous, soulful ballad and he’s definitely got a hint of a blues/soul edge to his voice. If he does it straight and pulls out the right parts of the song, this could be a HUGE moment for him.

Someone on another blog posted that if this song is done right, Simon is going to look like a genius, and so is David Cook. I agree. It has the potential be amazing.

The Collective Soul song I didn’t recognize just from the title, but of course I do now that I’ve watched the youtube. LOL. It will be interesting to see what his “own spin” is on this song. I’m thinking that he probably already covered it in his pre-AI days. I’m not overly enthused by the choice, but I have an open mind.

  63. Hehehe…Cookie certainly didn’t look too sure about the song in that MyFox interview when he got the text from Simon!! Neither did the news team. I’ll bet those musical wheels are turning now though.

I agree, I think Simon wants him to sing it straight. Maybe with a slight twist but keep it simple and beautiful. I am sooo looking forward to this one!

  64. I just don’t get a soul/bluesy vibe from David C’s voice. After hearing Michael on Ellen the other day I’m not so sure DC can compare. He’s got his own strength and sound but I guess we’ll see.

  65. I just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get a soul/bluesy vibe from David Cà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice. After hearing Michael on Ellen the other day Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not so sure DC can compare. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s got his own strength and sound but I guess weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll see.

I get what you’re saying, but “soul” in a voice is very subjective. To me, it’s just the ability to emote, get inside a lyric and make the listener feel something. David C does that to me on most of his songs. (Especially with “My Hero” today – gah!) I agree that MJ has a more soulful/bluesy tone to his voice, but he doesn’t usually reach me in the same way.

ETA: Wow, Paula. What a random and profoundly boring pick for David A! I almost feel sorry for the kid.

  66. Oh no. Please don’t let it be real!!!! I think that Billy Joel is a horrible choice for DA. Billy Joel’s songs have such a sweet simplicity about them. His songs are not ones that need big belting or runs on every word. I fear that DA will ruin the song.

(Can’t tell I like Billy Joel or anything, can you??)

  67. That Billy Joel song should be right in little D’s “wheelhouse”. LOL

Maybe they’re throwing him under the bus???

ETA: Picking a Billy Joel song for David A. is about as dumb as picking Journey for Elliott. Those two need their runs!! And by wheelhouse I mean boring.

  68. I’m not saying that Cookie has a bluesy voice. MJ’s is much more noticeably bluesy, I agree. The point I’m trying to make is that I can hear a bluesy/soulful EDGE to DC’s voice that is very faint, and not utilized much. But it’s still there. And Simon’s song choice for him could bring out that side to his voice.

And yeah – ditto everything cheese said.

  69. Paula obviously wants David Cook to win. She wouldn’t pick that terrible funeral dirge for Archuleta otherwise.

  70. Maybe theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re throwing him under the bus???

Nope they needed something heavier, that’s what you call a Burlington Northern Freight.

  71. Hmmm, Billy Joel for David A? Should be interesting.

I wonder if we’ll find out what David A’s and Syesha’s personal choices are?

Now, we have 4 more days to handwring over song choices! ;)

  72. Don’t worry about Archie! It will sound just like U2 when he gets finished with it.

  73. After listening to David C. sing “My Hero” the way he did today, now I have chills, serious chills envisioning that voice on Simon’s choice.

  74. LMAO chachi. That’s exactly the problem, methinks. ;)

    ETA:

After listening to David C. sing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“My Heroà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ the way he did today, now I have chills, serious chills envisioning that voice on Simonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s choice.

Me too, Trina. The following could be the telling factor once the show starts on Tuesday of how he’ll do with the song:

    a) if he gets the pimp spot
    b) if they end the show with the judges’ choice songs.

  75. I was kind of surprised about Simon’s choice for Cookie at first, but I agree that he should sing this one by the book and if he does, it could be a wonderful moment for him! I must also say after seeing Paula’s pick for Archie how relieved I am that Simon picked Cookie’s song. lol

  76. a) if he gets the pimp spot

Well, it is likely that DC will get the pimp spot. Generally, whoever goes firstish on Top 4 night (if they don’t get eliminated) goes last on Top 3 night. Plus, Syesha and David A have had the pimp spot most recently. Although, Syesha is the only one not to get the pimp spot twice in the finals.

That said, Diana got the pimp spot Final 4 and Final 3 so I will just avoid the blog that night if David A gets it again.

    b) if they end the show with the judgesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ choice songs.

I don’t think they’ve ever done that. They always end on contestants choice. In a way, that’s only fair. You shouldn’t have to leave your last impression up to whatever Paula picks.

  77. “And So It Goes” for Huhchuletta …. BWAH!!!

Anyone else remember little Carmen singing this…oh my!

  78. I happen to recall that in Season 2, Paula said she loved “And So It Goes.” They had Billy Joel week, Carmen sang it and was criticized for not knowing what to do with it.

I think Paula sometimes gives songs that she thinks will be outside a singer’s comfort zone. For example, she gave Clay Aiken “Mack the Knife.” That’s not always the case, though, as I recall she gave Elliott a song that was in his “wheelhouse.”

BTW, I second Gwendolyn’s idea about Cookie singing “…Ever I Saw Your Face” a la MJ doing “It’s All Wrong…” Sounds great to me.

  79. The thought of DA singing about his “wounds from lovers past” is seriously cracking me up. I’m sure he’ll sing it well, and Billy Joel is not a bad fit for him, but why THIS song? Only Pauler’s crack-addled little brain knows.

I don’t remember Carmen singing “And So It Goes” during Season 2, but I really only remember that one performance of hers in which she slapped her own ass repeatedly. Maybe “And So It Goes” is a popular Mormon teenager anthem?

There are rumors that DA(‘s father) has picked the bestest, most beautiful song evah and he will win the competition with it, so Pauler’s pick might not matter so much. Kittens will purr, flowers will bloom, and rainbows will shine just a little bit brighter when we hear it.

  80. Gag me with a spoon.

I would probably like the little dude better if they would let David be David. Let him pick his songs, his arrangements, etc. Fire his vocal coach and ban Daddy from the building. I bet I would enjoy him more. Who knows?

  81. t2 — Yes, I remember. I didn’t see your post till after I posted mine! Not little Carmen’s finest hour.

  82. According to http://www.whatnottosing.com, in seasons 3 and 4 they did not end the show on the contestant’s choice. They started with the contestant’s choice and ended with Clive’s choice. In season 4, they started with Clive’s choice and ended with the judges’ choice.

The past two seasons they’ve ended with the contestants’ choice.

ETA: In season 1, they also apparently ended with the judges’ choice songs.

  83. Ah Cheese but you forget with DC singing Roberta’s song the women will sigh, faint, hearts will pound and then they will implode until voting time starts. Then they will vote until they only have bloody stumps left.

  84. There are rumors that DA(à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s father) has picked the bestest, most beautiful song evah and he will win the competition with it, so Paulerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pick might not matter so much. Kittens will purr, flowers will bloom, and rainbows will shine just a little bit brighter when we hear it.

Glad I wasn’t drinking the Coke sitting in front of me when I read this, or it probably would have come out my nose. Thanks, cheese.

I think it would be pretty harsh to throw DA under the bus this week…pimp him all season and then throw him under the bus on top 3 night? Jason was thrown under the bus for weeks on end, but at least he was never one of the pimped ones to begin with. I don’t like Archie (as a singer, he seems like a perfectly nice kid), but I have to admit that I would feel bad for the little fella if they rev up the Grayhound for him this week.

  85. Rumor is DA chose *Longer* by Dan Fogelberg for himself. Not confirmed yet.

  86. Actually, I’m not sure about Syesha’s song now…

“Some people want it all, but I don’t want nothin’ at all if I ain’t got you baby.”
“Some people want diamond rings, but I don’t want anything….”

We all know that those lines are not true…she’s going to REALLY have to fake-emote through this one!

  87. The people Paula picks for have never won, correct? *keeps fingers crossed*

I think this is one of those years when the Randy song doesn’t go over too well. Technically, it’ll probably go over quite well as it usually does, but I really doubt Syesha will be able to escape Alicia comparisons. I know it isn’t even her fault, but I can see it coming already, especially since Alicia is still quite popular right now. It’ll be a nice to see Syesha do some R&B, though.

  88. FYI — In Season 2, the order was producer’s choice (which they picked from choices out of a hat), judge’s choice & singer’s choice.

  89. Ohhhh picking the songs out of the fishbowl…that was strange.

How did Ruben and Kimberly get such great songs and Clay got Vincent? I hadn’t heard of that song before. I wonder what else was in that there fishbowl??

  90. The people Paula picks for have never won, correct? *keeps fingers crossed*

    No.

    Paula: Nikki (3), Clay (2), Jasmine (3), Bo (2), Elliott (3), Blake (2)
    Randy: Kelly (1), Kimberley (3), Diana (2), Carrie (1), Taylor (1), Melinda (3)
    Simond: Justin (2), Ruben (1), Fantasia (1), Vonzell (3), Katharine (2), Jordin (1)

Although, some might say it’s her turn to pick for a winner. 3 out of 6 of her picks went onto the finals. Randy is 4/6 and Simon is 5/6.

  91. Ok let me just tell you peeps that I worship at the altar that is Billy Joel. I gotta tell you Paula has me stumped. And So It Goes is off of the Storm Front cd in 1989. By this time in BJ’s career, he had lost the upper register that he was known for during the 70’s. He doesn’t even attempt to hit the high notes in Innocent Man in concert anymore. He relies, usually on his sax player. ASIG is a very monotone type song with no room for runs. very plodding and piano driven. Almost a lulaby.

DA has issues with his lower register in that it comes out extremely nasal sounding. If he can play the piano accompaniment to this song he may have chance to make something of it. Otherwise, even as one of BJ’s BIGGEST fans this is a beautiful song in context but can come across as extremely boring. He can’t run and melissma this song to death. You sing it straight and with a great deal of feeling. He better make a damn good connection with the song or he will come across as a funeral dirge. Without the abiltiy to use his range on this song, he has to sell it will feeling and I don’t mean the waiter tray hand and closed eyes.

  92. Vincent is a gorgeous song. There were length probs or something and Clay didn’t have the time to do the song justice.

  93. Wow, always thought Roberta Flack wrote that song but she did not.

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face was written by Ewan MacColl for his wife.

  94. I wonder what else was in that there fishbowl??

Considering how that season went, probably dozens of pieces of paper with “Vincent” on it, and a few with “Baby Got Back,” just in case.

  95. bax – Talk about hitting the nail on the head. Great post.

NOLA – I’m not saying that Vincent isn’t a nice song or whatever, but it’s kinda boring and not really something that should be on the American Idol Top 3 show. Kimberley got Band of Gold, I believe. Ruben got Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Both of them managed to pull songs out of the fishbowl that were perfect for them and then Clay got Vincent. I have always thought that it was a random song to have in the fishbowl. And I’m not completely convinced that they actually pulled songs out of a fishbowl anyway.

  96. Nice pick for Syesha, Randy. Maybe it’s because she already sang it and nailed it on “The One” which got cancelled on ABC. Video may be on youtube. I’m too lazy to find the link.

They are trying to make Syesha marketable to R&B genre. Randy’s pick will help that. I bet the producers will pick something like “Work It Out” by Beyonce. It might be neat to hear her sing “Umbrella” by Rhianna. She could make it broadway-esque/R&B fusion and come out with a real umbrella for the song. She needs to have a lot of fun this week and just do what Jason did- screw the judges and entertian America- cause you’re going home no matter what you do.

Her personal choice should be “Who’s Loving You” by the Jackson 5. Or she could do a reprise on “Yesterday”.

Anyway, I’d like to hear David A sing “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” at some point this season.

    Thanks MJ!

  97. Darn, Paula is sending me back to YouTube. Never heard her song choice before. *sigh*

Paula has never picked the song of the eventual winner. Yikes, Archie.

  98. After the show, it was said that the producers put three different songs in each singer’s fishbowl, so even though there were many folded pieces of paper, each singer only picked from 3 songs. And each singer’s fishbowl contained different songs.

  99. Thanks Krazee….I do have my moments!!!

There are so many other Billy Joel songs I would have picked for Little D, I can’t even begin to list them. Hell he likes message songs so much give him Honesty to sing, although I don’t think he would quite understand the song, but it has more range and he can throw in some runs for Randy’s listening pleasure. But then I would have had to shoot him for singing my favorite song of all time from Mr. Joel….the Piano GOD!!! He graduated from The Piano Man with me a long time ago.

  100. Kimberley got Band of Gold, I believe. Ruben got Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Both of them managed to pull songs out of the fishbowl that were perfect for them and then Clay got Vincent.

I’ll take Vincent over the other 2 any day. JMO.
The story was about Vincent van Gogh. I’ve always loved it.

  101. Oops, Simon picks for Cook and Paula picks for Archie. That’s a sign I think.
I like the Billy Joel song but it does sort of go nowhere.

  102. DA will be just fine. Remember there are 3 songs. They’ll probably give him an upbeat song and he can pick what ever he’s like. Don’t see any buses. He’ll at least make the top 2. There is no doubt in my mind about that. I think that would be great as David could use a few years to season and 2nd place would be perfect.

  103. I have no prob admitting I really like david. That said i really feel its wrong for the Judge who has said I want more DC and I feel like I already see the AI to pick a song for another contestant. I think she could of done DC Randy DA and Simon SM but oh well. I just really hate that song choice for DA, DC should and i hope knock his out of the park. I was just so hoping for a David/David end

  104. By the way…here are the guidelines again

  105. “And So It Goes” is by far my favorite Billy Joel song and one of my favorite songs of all time. Jennifer Warnes does a version on “The Well” and it is so hauntingly beautiful. It is a song of experience, of loss, of hurt, of bitterness and ultimately of the true hope of love.. Archie is 17, there is no way this song fits him and it may make me break my television.

  106. I hope Archuleta can do something with that funeral dirge that Paula
chose for him. What a twit she is.

  107. Once again, he could kick some ass in the 2nd and third song. Maybe that song will come first.

  108. Hey guys, can someone help me out? In which video on the My Fox KC site does DCook get his text message from Simon?

  109. MrRJ- Testify brother. It is an incredibly beautiful song, but only in the right hands. THere are necessary vocal and emotional nuances needed to do this song justice. You have to truly feel this song or it goes nowhere.

  110. Re: DC’s choice (The World I Know) – I’m not familiar with this song – is it a good choice? I am always thinking that the more familiar a song is, the better the audience responds = votes.

Is this song a “familiar” enough song? I’m remembering Innocent now and think that song didn’t go over so well because it wasn’t well known.

    Thoughts?

  111. as I recall she gave Elliott a song that was in his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“wheelhouse.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I seriously doubt that you will find many Elliott fans to agree with you. Paula made a horrible song choice for Elliott. It was as if she had not been listening to his styles of singing for the past few months. Elliott, himself, said that he did what he could with it. It was pretty obvious that he did not think it was a good choice either.

  112. Star it would be the first one from this morning. The one in the news studio.

  113. grayhound – yeah, I think “The World I Know” is a pretty well known song. I didn’t recognize it by the title alone, but once I pulled up the youtube, it was definitely a “duh! Of course I know this!” moment. And while I like Collective Soul, I was never a HUGE fan. I think it got some good radio play.

    ETA: Here’s the youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rW6Px8WmN8

  114. I have to agree with Baxter than “And So it Goes” is not prime Billy Joel for DA. It just lies there.

  115. sarah – I’ll take your word for it – I hope he hits a homerun with it!

We have soooooooooooo many days to worry ahead of us!!

eta: I’m sure Simon is lost in the 70’s, what with his pick for DC and last year’s pick for JS.

  116. LOL MrRJ

I like both Davids. I chose to sit and listen this season, and not vote.
It sure made a difference for me as far as enjoying the show as a whole.
I would be happy with either as the winner, because I know both will
    be ok.

  117. Thanks Bax.

I wonder why DC spilled on his choice song when he has always been tightlipped before. Is he tricking us?

Sitting by the fire listening to Billy
With a wild and crazy little filly

  118. grayhound – yeah, I think à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The World I Knowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is a pretty well known song. I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t recognize it by the title alone, but once I pulled up the youtube, it was definitely a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“duh! Of course I know this!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ moment. And while I like Collective Soul, I was never a HUGE fan. I think it got some good radio play.

That song is over 10 years old and I still hear it on the radio pretty regularly.

  119. I believe the debate about Vincent was that the producers thought it was too short and at the last moment suggested Clay add another verse. He did not have time to learn it, so they put the words on a que card but didn’t tell him when to come in with it.

I believe that is what Clay said a few weeks ago.

  120. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The World I Knowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is a song almost everone has heard many times. It suffers from not being know by its name. Who knew the Who’s “teenage wasteland’ song had the name it did?

  121. gabam — I don’t even recall the name of the song that Paula gave Elliott. I do recall that I didn’t like the song, but I thought it was by an artist that Elliott admired.

  122. Star it would be the first one from this morning. The one in the news studio.

Thanks, I watched the first and the second one and it wasn’t in either of those…?

ETA nevermind. It’s the 3rd one, the weather video.

  123. Supposedly Paula went on Houston radio today and picked Cook as the winner of the whole thing. That could be a rumor. I did hear Randy on the radio today say that Cook could have record out very quickly. It was a joint interview with Kat and Elliott promoting Real Love. Randy said he didn’t know which direction Archie would go in and Elliott said he was a young Micheal Buble. Just sharing.

I still haven’t forgiven Paula for her horrible song choice for Elliott.

Just saw the TMZ story. Now Paula choosing for Archie makes a lot more sense. She’s never picked for the winner. Ditto, Paula and Randy riding the Cook train. I’m positive they want the David/David finale with Cook winning it.

  124. Thanks Lisa…wow, and to think people disagreed with me on this…..

“TMZ has learned David Archuleta’s dad, Jeff, has been officially banned from “American Idol.””

  125. I think this is one of those years when the Randy song doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t go over too well. Technically, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll probably go over quite well as it usually does, but I really doubt Syesha will be able to escape Alicia comparisons. I know it isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even her fault, but I can see it coming already, especially since Alicia is still quite popular right now. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be a nice to see Syesha do some R&B, though.

I think anything by Alicia Keys is too fresh in our minds for Syesha to slide by if the vocal doesn’t measure up. IMO, Alicia’s not a masterclass vocalist, but there’s a hoarse sort of passion to her voice, particularly with this song, that helps to sell it. Syesha needs to stay in her softer, lower register to be successful with any song that is “bigger” than she.

  126. Do all think it is a DA and DC show. I think Syesha is gone
    Tuesday.

  127. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“TMZ has learned David Archuletaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s dad, Jeff, has been officially banned from à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idol.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ”

    Finally.

  128. I’m not sure if I buy that TMZ story, but if it’s true, it’s funny.

  129. I’d be very surprised if it isn’t a David/David Finale. It’s been pre-ordained for a long time.

I don’t like it when any judge predicts a winner at any time during the competition. I know they have various reasons for doing it — sometimes even reverse psychology. It was in Season 2 that I first heard a judge do that, and I was so shocked. How naive I was back then about AI!

  130. Do all think it is a DA and DC show. I think Syesha is gone
    Tuesday.

Nope. I think Archie’s getting the boot on Wednesday.

(edited because apparently I no longer know which day results are on)

  131. Gordon Lightfoot has a decent version of “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”. I know, Gordon Lightfoot?!?! I’m struggling with this song choice for Cookie.

  132. Thanks Lisa. David has never been in the bottom 3 and Syesha has been there each time. I think that tells you something.

  133. Thanks Lisa. David has never been in the bottom 3 and Syesha has been there each time. I think that tells you something.

Syesha hasn’t been there every time. And don’t forget, she may or may not have been there during top 5 and 4 night…the “bottom 2” wasn’t revealed.

I think that Sy is a carbon copy of Katharine McPhee. Katharine made some appearances in the B3/2. Sy is smart. She will bring it this week.

  134. I honestly think all 3 will do well. Then it will be a matter of the fan base, not how well they do.

I don’t Kat had all the negativity that Sy has had

  135. If Syesha goes, where do her voters go? I’m not sure which David they would go with. However, I can still see Syesha in the top 2 somehow.

  136. Don’t forget to consider the swing voters…those whose favorite is gone and those who vote based on best performances. There is a significant group of people who aren’t committed to one contestant.

  137. For the entire competition, Daddy A has been guiding his son. Now David has 3 songs to learn and won’t have his father around for the most crucial part of the season. It is possible that David A will have a Jason meltdown this week.

I’d say the Paula song curse and the Daddy A boot make it highly unlikely that David A wil win. Plus all 3 judges have now picked Cook as their favorite. So I’d say the Greyhound is headed in Archie’s direction.

  138. Thanks Lisa. David has never been in the bottom 3 and Syesha has been there each time. I think that tells you something.

I don’t think Syesha will win, but she could sneak into the Top 2. Who could she knock out? It all depends on Tuesday’s performances.

  139. jpfan — Has Randy really picked Cookie as his favorite? When was that? Amazing to me, if that’s so. Randy has been pushing so hard for Archie for so long….

  140. Randy talked about Cook today in a radio interview. It was a 3 way with Kat and Elliott. I’m not sure he said the word favorite but said Cook had the most commercial appeal and he could put his album out tomorrow.

  141. and wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have his father around for the most crucial part of the season. It is possible that David A will have a Jason meltdown this week.

Well, why should he have Daddy around to arrange his songs for him? And, when, exactly, did Jason have a meltdown? He missed a couple of lyrics? Archie’s done that more than once already.

  142. jpfan

Randy talked about Cook today in a radio interview. It was a 3 way with Kat and Elliott. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure he said the word favorite but said Cook had the most commercial appeal and he could put his album out tomorrow.

Yeah, that was fishy. He was also promoting “Real Love”, no? But, he has been pretty positive on the show, though. He was feeling DC when Simon really wasn’t.

  143. If Syesha sneeks into the finale and 19/BMG have to sign her as a runner-up I’d be a little nervous considering she isn’t selling on iTunes at ALL. Has even one of her songs ever made any sort of a dent? IMO the votes this week are going to be all about big fanbases powervoting and texting like crazy. The cynic in me thinks Syesha’s tears helped her an awful lot this past week.

The Randy interview, I believe he said Cookie would end up having the biggest selling album this year.

  144. Thanks Lisa. David has never been in the bottom 3 and Syesha has been there each time. I think that tells you something.

All that “tells” me is that she’s somehow found a way to survive and outlast people who supposedly have bigger fanbases.

And yes, as others have said, she has not been in the bottom 3 each time. She now holds the record for bottom 3 appearances ever on AI, but there have been a couple weeks when she was not in there.

  145. Syesha could split the David vs David finale, but she’ll have to be perfect, deliver 3 spectacular performances, cry, show skin, and pander for more pity votes. The sheer fact that she is the only girl left gives her a bit of an advantage. Votefair.org has been predicting David Cook’s ouster for a bit now d/t vote splitting but I see hardly any vote splitting between Cook/Archie whereas between Elliott/Tay there was. She could crack the top 2, just like Kim Locke could have cracked the top 2. But if I were a betting woman, I’d bet on a David vs. David finale with David Archuleta winning…but…I want Cook to win.

  146. There was a huge Castro/Cook vote split. I don’t know how that’ll play out now that Jason’s gone. Rumor has it that some Syesha fans were planning to split votes with Cook to get them both into the finale and oust Archie. That would hurt more than they could know.

  147. In what has to be an Idol first, I’ve located “If I Ain’t Got You” from the One and you it is not half bad. Sort of a passable Idol performance already.

  148. I must say that the timing of this TMZ “news” is very odd. The competition has two more weeks left. Why risk screwing up David A. when the pressure and the stakes are so high?

  149. Sounds like the timing has to do with the song selection shenanigans? TPTB are all about the cash, and doing something that doesn’t clear is a big no-no.

  150. There was a huge Castro/Cook vote split. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know how thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll play out now that Jasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gone. Rumor has it that some Syesha fans were planning to split votes with Cook to get them both into the finale and oust Archie. That would hurt more than they could know.

    Gwendolyn,

This is one thing that we have been trying to emphasize on the AI boards in regards to Cookie is NO VOTE SPLITTING! lol The math just doesn’t add up and one of them ends up getting hurt. I can’t speak on behalf of the entire fanbase, but for those of us that post at different forums our votes, are going to Cookie and ONLY to him. I have no idea what her fanbase is doing but they aren’t speaking for the majority of us.

  151. Just curious, as I don’t go any of the fansites or the AI forums, what sort of fanbase does Syesha have? Obviously she has gotten enough votes to stay in this thing, but is it casual and/or uncommitted voters that are voting for her, or does she have a significant fanbase?

  152. mocha,

I’m not really sure how huge her fanbase is. All I do know is that compared to who is left in the competition, going by post count on the AI boards, the post count on her forum is probably 8 to 10 times lower than Cookie’s or Archies boards if that tells you anything. I don’t know about any of the other forums. I don’t post on her board there so I don’t know how many of them vote or don’t vote so sorry, but I don’t know the answer to that part of the question. :) Someone who might post on other forums other than there might have a better idea.

  153. jpfan à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Has Randy really picked Cookie as his favorite? When was that? Amazing to me, if thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so. Randy has been pushing so hard for Archie for so longà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

You know…given how many times we’ve heard both the contestants and judges say they give tougher “critiques” (heh) to the more confident and capable performers who are able to take it and run with it, challenging them…I wonder if the high praises for Archie even on off nights is 1) because he does better in rehearsal when they’re really doing the judging, and more importantly 2) because he’s a very nervous kid. Maybe the high praise is partly an effort to boost his confidence, hoping his stage presence would improve?

    Or…not. lol

  154. Lisa May 9th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

Wow, always thought Roberta Flack wrote that song but she did not.

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face was written by Ewan MacColl for his wife.

Good lawd! I HATE this song. And I am a woman who would normally fall for the romantic stuff. My hope is that Cook rocks it so much that it turns into something other than the funeral durge it was by Roberta Flack. If anyone can do it, it’s David Cook.

Could this ousting of Daddy A have anything to do with them NOT picking him as the winner? Are they making the path clear for Cook (who I prefer) so they can try to pick up the pieces from the Daughtry disaster?? They only see dollar signs when they focus on a winner.

  155. Hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Syesha singing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“If I Ainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Got Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ on The One. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe Randy gave her a song that sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s done on a reality show before.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS7C795bYp4

Well, that wasn’t bad at all. Her lower register isn’t that great, though.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKqr4F9Ilis

Leona Lewis performing the Roberta Flack song. Wonder if Simon might mention her performing his song choice for Cookie on Tuesday.

Anyway, I wonder if Simon is expecting DC to perform this straight or make it into a “contemporary” radio hit? After hearing Leona’s version, I want him to do the latter.

  156. I agree, Hisaki. I just cannot get over how much Simon’s pick sucks. It is a dirge without melody or climax. I would never listen to it on purpose, yet here I am trying to find a version that doesn’t put me to sleep. Sadly, I have so far been unsuccessful. I am extremely nervous for my boy DC this week.

The Billy Joel song that Pauler chose isn’t much better, but it’s still better. I am going to be a nervous wreck (AGAIN!) on Tuesday. I hope that DC will have enough time to find something that makes that shit work.

Also, I have listened to DC’s “My Hero” many, many times. I found the acoustic version that Grohl performed on Kilbourn and I was laughing my ass off because he appears to have “Archie-itis.” I don’t know if he opens his eyes the whole time.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkogKAZGm_g

I suppose it’s bad to say that I like Cook’s version much better, because of he excels at nuancing a lyric or two. *makes up words*

  157. I think that “If I Ain’t Got You” is a good choice for where they want Syesha to go too. In the R&B sense but its not that great of a song for her to have the Idol moment that she needs. I think that they should have choosen something like “Listen” from Dreamgirls or Stephanie Mills “Feel the Fire” or even Best of My Love. Also picking a song that she’s already done on a show before is just going to attract negative attention and cause some people to claim its unfair.

David Cook’s song I think is a great choice because not too many people know of a male version of it and it’ll give him a chance to build and play to his female base of fans.

As for David Archuleta song “And So It Goes” which is one of my favorite songs I just don’t think he has the emotional maturity to convey this song. Billy Joel wrote this right after his divorce from Christie Brinkley and I think the lyrics can really hit home but the song benefits from being done at a slow pace and Carmen Rasmussen proved that this song has a problem being cut down to the minute and a half time frame that the show requires.

  158. This is interesting. http://theone.wisemoonpictures.com/03.php

Watch the video of Syesha responding to the judges’ comments on “The One” after singing “If I Ain’t Got You”. Here, she talks about her rough childhood and ‘singing to the children’. She goes on and on with pagaentry crap.

So, I’m pretty sure all her blabbering on AI is rehearsed and calculated, cause she’s been doing it for quite some time.

The PERFECT song choice for her this week would be “Dance with my father again” and talk about his drug addiction and jail time.

  159. I wonder if Syesha ever did any pageants before? She does have a gift for impromptu speaking, she was the only one this week that was quick enough to give decent answers to Ryan’s questions while they were all sitting on the couch. I know some past Idols were pageant contestants, Kellie Pickler comes to mind as one. She would be wise to tone down the rehearsed politically correct lines, though, as she may start to irritate people.

  160. David Archuleta

Paula Abdul choses for him – à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“And So it Goesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ by Billy Joel

I’ve been busy all weekend – and I’ve missed all the news! Now, this right here makes my heart hurt. I just don’t believe I’ll be able to watch pageant boy put his inspirational, out-stretched hand spin on this lovely song.

I do believe I declared Billy Joel songs off limits for Archie weeks ago. Why will no one listen to me. This is sacriledge, and I’m feeling some vomit coming up.

  161. Spenser imagine how I will feel if he touches a Fogelberg song. JUST NO. I am a huge Fogelbergtard.

  162. Blech to some of the song choices.

I’m not feeling all that inspired to the song choice Simon gave to Cookie. I just don’t get it. Is he wanting to see what he’s going to do with it, or sing it like he sang on ALW night…because peculiar choice.

I can’t picture the song David picked for himself as a David song yet, but I’m not doubting that he has something up his sleeve….I’m just a bit…concerned, that’s all.

I agree with you Spencer, I LOVE LOVE Billy Joel and that is one of my absolute favorite Billy Joel songs and to think of Archie gasping, wheezing, and licking his lips through that one just makes me want to hit mute already.

As for Syesha, how convenient! Randy picked a song she’s already done. Lovely. Push, push Syesha into the finale, and push, push Archie out with papagate. Well played.

  163. Unless she has a beyond fantastic night, I don’t think Sy has a chance of making the top 2.

  164. i still am thinking WTF to randy picking a song syesha has done already on a reality show… UGH

  165. They are going to pretend like she never sang it- knowing the pimpmobile that AI is…. Unless Simon decides to use his concience. I can imagine him saying “Syesha… to be fair… you sang that better tonight than you did on the One”. That will be hillarious.

  166. I think they will damn Sy with faint praise (it was good but I didn’t love it) and then love on both Davids. They’ve all three been saying ‘David vs David’ since about Top 10 week so they have a vested interest in seeing that happen. Otherwise, they look out of touch with what the American public wants.

However, with there being 3 songs, they may use the opportunity to depimp the David they would prefer not to win on one of his songs.

  167. Hope to see Syesha and David Cook advance to the finals this week!

Little insight into the Jeff Archuleta ban.
Could TPTB be waiting to see what DA can do on his own without Daddy’s nagging influence? Is this a test for little David? Banning Daddy from backstage removes the problem. Will David listen to the Professional vocal coaches and perform accordingly this week? Or will he listen to his Dad, change the lyrics at the last minute and defy the Voice coaches? Only his performance will tell.
Maybe this is an opportunity for David to try his wings out and see if he can fly solo.
Given all that is at stake for the AI Crown, this is a fair test.

Regarding all the AI drama lately, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the over-hyped David-David finale thrown out with the bath water. David Cook and Syesha are a great match of energy. Big votes for David Cook and Syesha advancing to the finale!

Syesha finally received some well-deserved recognition this week! She is emerging as the Dark Horse, indeed!! Go Syesha!!! I love watching you shine.

David Cook is still my hands-on favorite to win!! Loved hearing him sing, “There Goes My Hero”, by the Foo Fighters during his home town visit. Beautiful guitar and vocals!
    David Cook Rocks My IPOD!!!

  168. Hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Syesha singing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“If I Ainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Got Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ on The One. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe Randy gave her a song that sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s done on a reality show before.

Syesha must do better than this on AI. I saw the clip earlier, too, and I didn’t think it was great at all, this performance.

Anyway, I wonder if Simon is expecting DC to perform this straight or make it into a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“contemporaryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ radio hit? After hearing Leonaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s version, I want him to do the latter.

I am unsure if this has already been brought here but I just read about this elsewhere: a guy on youtube did a cover of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and claims this (in the comments):

david cook actually did message me on youtube.(or atleast someone claiming he was david cook). anyways he did love my arrangment and said he was worried about the song because he just didnt know where to take it. I told him he was free to take elements of my arrangment and add hius own spin. we will see what happens on americna idol. Im pretty excited to see if he uses my arrangment or even a part of it.

  169. I would much rather DC sing it as is straight to even begin to sing it like that youtube version, just NO.

  170. i agree lisa …
and if he was to go for another take there are other versions much better than this

  171. So, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m pretty sure all her blabbering on AI is rehearsed and calculated, cause sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been doing it for quite some time.

On Tuesday night, I thought Syesha was for real, but the bit of repeat again on Wednesday turned me off. Wasn’t Vonzell a pagent winner?

A spokeman for AI is saying the ban applies to everyone in the last 2 weeks of the competittion. Sorry no link on this.

Most of Jason’s fans are not voting. It seems those that will are going to David Cook. I also see the David C./David A. finale. For his mental health, it may be better if David A. does not win, IMO.

    (I miss Jason already!)

  172. I am unsure if this has already been brought here but I just read about this elsewhere: a guy on youtube did a cover of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and claims this (in the comments):

My b.s.-ometer just went off the charts. So he uploads this video the same day DC’s choice is announced, in a style sorta/somewhat similar to his so that if DC does an acoustic cover, “someone” could claim that he was inspired by this guy. *eyeroll*

  173. I’ve checked out several versions FTEISYF on you tube and the version which comes closest to what I imagine Cookie doing is The Journey South version….the tempo is a bit faster which would suit his style of arranging. I have complete faith that however he arranges and performs it that he will kill it!

First post here..been a lurker for a couple of years…BEST AI blog around. Can hardly stomach the official AI board.

    THanks MJ!

  174. A spokeman for AI is saying the ban applies to everyone in the last 2 weeks of the competittion. Sorry no link on this.

There is no link because that post on the scary boards is fakety-fake-fake.

  175. I also read a rumor that DC’s producer’s choice is Hotel California…a song about drugs.

Do people just have fun making this stuff up? Is that the kind of foolishness that goes on at the scary boards??

  176. Steph – yeah, people get lots of enjoyment from making up fake spoilers. But I wouldn’t know anything about that. *walks away whistling innocently*

  177. Steph – yeah, people get lots of enjoyment from making up fake spoilers. But I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know anything about that. *walks away whistling innocently*

LOL, Sarah. I know you would never be involved in that scary board-fake spoiler business. :wink_ee:

  178. Well crap. Archie fans are saying the *Longer* rumor is now confirmed. Producer’s and I know your watching, thanks for making Archie ruin some great Fogelberg for me. No way can I watch that.

  179. Archie fans are saying the *Longer* rumor is now confirmed.

:glurps_tb: That song is pure poetry. I can’t even begin to imagine how he will interpret the lyrics. “I’ve been in love with…” who?

    Is this his personal choice?

  180. Archie is just 17 and now he has two songs that talk of emotions and experiences by someone who might have actually had such experiences. He really can’t interpret these in a way that allow anyone to keep a really straight face. It is like a 5 year old singing “Get Down Make Love.” Just kinda stomach turning.

  181. Geez…the producers chose it? I’d think they would go with something a little more current.

Ah well, I guess my last hope is that his personal choice is not a ballad.

  182. I am not pleased to read that Randy gave Syesha a song she sang on another reality show. There is not evidence that he knew she had done this song before, but I find it highly unlikey that he would just pick this song out of thin air, and what do you know, it happens to be one she already has performed on national TV. I don’t like blatant manipulation.

  183. Gwen I am reading grumblings from his fans that he might have changed his personal choice due to having two ballads already.
