Here we are, it’s the night of Eurovision 2016’s grand final. 26 countries will compete to win the big crystal microphone and the right to host the contest next year.
If you want to see how far along this event has come, watch this video of all previous winners. The very first winner, Switzerland’s Lys Assia, will be watching the event live in the arena. The lady is 92 years old and still traveling around.
Tonight’s voting process as explained by the contest’s official website:
26 Songs: 42 Televoting countries
26 songs will participate in the Grand Final, and professional juries in each of the 42 countries, voted on yesterday’s dress rehearsal. They accounted for 50% of the overall total.
Tonight the remaining 50% of the votes will be decided by the public televote in all 42 countries. These votes will be added to those of the juries to determine the 2016 winner of the Eurovision Song Contest.
The semifinal starts at 9pm CEST, 3pm EDT, 12pm PDT
