Estimated 9, 200 Hopefuls Line Up to Audition in San Francisco

The last of the cattle call auditions took place in San Francisco, CA on Thursday. The San Jose Mercury News reports estimates of 9, 200 hopefuls who lined up to audition at AT&T Park.

At 7 am sharp, about 2, 000 would-be Idolers stood outside in the Willie Mays Plaza as supervising producer Patrick Lynn directed crowd shots with Ryan Seacrest (it involved lots of cheering). And as you can see from the FOX publicity shots, Bo Bice was there to give the kids some encouragement.

Finished with his summer show, So You Think You Can Dance, returning executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe was also in attendance, checking out the prospects.

The next step is for producers to winnow the group of hopefuls even further into the lucky few who will sing in front of “the judges”.

Of course, at this point, we have no idea who that will be.
