DWTS 25 Week 6 Live Blog and Performance Videos

Welcome to week six of season twenty-five of Dancing with the Stars. Tonight is “Movie Night,” and the remaining nine couples will all be tasked to dance an unlearned style, paying tribute to a specific movie genre. From a quickstep dedicated to musicals to a samba in the spirit of westerns, it is going to be a night celebrating all our favorite types of films. Who will give an Oscar worthy performance? And which one couple will see their dancing dreams bomb faster than the motion picture “Gigli?” Sorry Ms. Lopez. :P

Last week, it was “Disney Night” and we said goodbye to Sasha & Gleb. Sasha had a nice run on the show, sharing her story with the public and dropping some weight as she wanted. Unfortunately, she was never able to break free from being a middle of the pack performer and Gleb’s mediocre choreography wasn’t able to help her stand out. With her exit, we are down to nine. We saw our first perfect score of the season, awarded to Jordan & Lindsay. The “10” paddles also came out for Frankie and Lindsey. Once again at the bottom were Nick & Peta.

It is beginning to look more and more as though the finale this season could come down to those three dancers (Jordan, Lindsey, and Frankie) with an outside chance of Victoria making it in. I don’t believe Frankie was actually in jeopardy last week. That was either producer manufactured drama or a way to give Frankie a vote boost heading into week six. Even though some other contestants (Drew and Terrell for example) are showing growth, it may not be enough to make it as far as the four previously mentioned. For the rest of them- well, they are just waiting for their number to be up quite honestly. But let’s see where you guys stood in last week’s poll results.

For favorite partnership, 38% are still on board with Jordan & Lindsay. But it is very close for second. 22% went to Frankie & Witney while 21% have Lindsey & Mark. Those same three couples had your favorite routines of the night. In first with 36% were Jordan & Lindsay followed by Frankie & Witney at 29% and Lindsey & Mark with a respectable 16%. Three couples also took top honors in the least favorite routine poll. 39% for Nick & Peta, 18% for Vanessa & Maks, and 14% for Terrell & Cheryl.

It was another highly rated episode for you guys- 42% gave it a “B” while 41% thought it deserved an “A.” As for tonight’s elimination, a whopping 66% of you feel Nick & Peta have finally come to the end of their run. 12% think it could be Terrell & Cheryl and 10% voted for Vanessa & Maks. I wouldn’t put it past the producers to place the married couple- Nick & Vanessa in jeopardy. They did the same to a previously competing married duo (Carlos & Alexa) a few seasons back. This show loves drama and I could just picture the both of them crying as one is eliminated from the competition.

It is really is Nick’s time so though he seems like a perfectly nice guy, I do hope he goes. The rest of the cast is stronger and deserves another week. Who else could possibly end up in jeopardy this week? Perhaps Nikki and it wouldn’t shock to me see Terrell and/or Drew. So let’s see how creative our pros are at choreographing routines that pay tribute to nine different movie styles and let’s see which contestants are able to rise to the occasion. “Movie Night” starts now…

We begin with a really adorable opening where Val is an aspiring screenwriter who sells his script, followed by the hiring of a young starlet, and then of course, the making and celebration of his movie. It is a very elegant and old school dance number. – Click for Performance VIDEO

Here come the stars. OH. Shania Twain is the guest judge this evening. That’s cool. Everyone looks stunning, all glitz and glamour. Mandy Moore as always was responsible for the choreography we just saw. Tom and Erin welcome us to the show as we get underway.

Nikki & Artem – Argentine Tango
Nice dance! Loved the lifts and control Nikki had while Artem was swinging her around in those classic argentine tango turns. I’m not entirely sure if there was a mistake toward the middle right before Nikki grabbed Artem’s hat and flung it or if it was intended to look that way. The dance itself showed a high level of passion, which it calls for, and a clear interpretation of a foreign film done to dance. After last week’s season high score for Nikki, she returns with a very good routine. Hopefully going first doesn’t hurt her all that much in votes. – Click for Performance VIDEO

Len mentions Artem’s error in his balance but he wants Nikki to explore her tenderness. But he thought it was a great dance. Shania found it romantic, beautiful, and elegant. Bruno enjoyed the poise. He also calls it elegant. Carrie Ann calls it a stunning display of artistry. She wants Nikki to extend the movement to her feet and if she does that, she will look like a pro.

Nikki & Artem are SAFE Results happening a bit differently tonight.

The next SAFE couple is… Drew & Emma

Frankie & Witney… are also SAFE

The first couple in JEOPARDY is… Nick & Peta

Terrell & Cheryl… are also in JEOPARDY

Victoria & Val… are also in JEOPARDY

Drew & Emma – Paso Doble
Well, that had some very cool moments. I loved the opening sequence. Unfortunately, some of this was quite sloppy. And when Drew was dancing with the others, it was not very in-sync. You could clearly see he was a bit behind the others. I think it needed to all just be a bit more precise. It had decent paso steps, and Emma put together some great choreography which will probably be remembered more than the actual dancing will. Drew was better last week overall as this just lacked finesse. – Click for Performance VIDEO

Shania thought all the drama was captured and love the balance between the masculine and feminine strength. Bruno mentions Drew went wrong and lost a bit of timing. He got overexcited Bruno says. Carrie Ann felt the dance got away from Drew a bit. She says it was entertaining but there was mistakes. Len is pleased Drew is safe but he isn’t convinced he will be safe for next week. He calls it an awkward looking routine. He says the finesse was lacking.

Nick & Peta – Samba
Oy. You know, I feel for Nick. He looks absolutely defeated in the rehearsal package. And the truth is, tonight should really be it for him. The fact that he isn’t a natural dancer is so obvious that now in week six, it becomes painful to watch. Was it a horrific samba? No. But it was honestly something I would expect to see in the early weeks of the show from a dancer who is needs to grow. Not something in week six from someone who should at this stage, be much better. If it hasn’t happened yet, it isn’t going to. Peta has tried and Nick seems to have as well but the pieces just aren’t coming together. Fun looking choreography though from start to finish. On a positive note, Nick was actually in-sync with the backup dancers more than Drew was. – Click for Performance VIDEO

Bruno loved the line dancing but he found the samba itself to be lacking. It wasn’t naturally rhythmical. Bruno says it is hard for guys to do. Carrie Ann enjoyed the breakdown. She says Nick is slow and steady. Len thought the solo stuff was good but once the samba starts, it got too stiff. Shania felt a lack of confidence and apprehension. But she found it entertaining.

Victoria & Val – Paso Doble
Hehe. Cute. Victoria’s determined face wins. Good acting in the dance. The paso stuff was decent. I understand the theme had to be worked in but I could have done without the hockey, especially the end when it was all hockey. But I’ll give it a pass since everyone has to somehow incorporate these movie themes. I think Victoria has done better in previous weeks but it was still a good performance with adequate dancing. Her biggest positive right now is that she is an underdog on this show and that mixed with her story makes her appealing to fans. – Click for Performance VIDEO

Carrie Ann loved the blending movement. She found it well rehearsed and tight. Len liked the concept. He wants her hands stronger sometimes but he was pleased. Shania loved how creative it was. Bruno saw a proper paso doble. He agrees to watch her hands and arms in some of the moves. But he applauds the performance.

Terrell & Cheryl – Jive
Not bad! The kicks and flicks were there. The character was there. The mood and concept was there (for a spy themed piece). I’m not sure if Terrell is going to get the 10’s he wants because it wasn’t perfection in my eyes but it was a very good dance. Cheryl did some nice stuff there for Terrell in the choreography department and he met her expectations. It was nice that the actual jive dance wasn’t overpowered by the theme but instead, played into it. Good stuff. – Click for Performance VIDEO

Len loved the style and ease of Terrell even if it wasn’t a 10. He adds it was Terrell’s best dance so far. Shania loved the determination and how in character it was. Bruno loved the swagger and timing. He says Terrell is becoming a better and better performer. Carrie Ann thinks Terrell is a smooth operator. She feels it was slick and oily. She calls it hot.

And now a break, as Shania Twain sings “Solider.” Well, maybe not singing and more like lip singing. But okay. We have some lovely dancing going on around her so that’s nice. And the song itself is quite pretty. I just get turned off so quickly when the singer is obviously not performing live. Her album is available now and that tune was from the movie “Thank You For Your Service.”

Frankie & Witney – Jazz
Animation was probably the hardest theme to choreograph a dance to and have it make sense. Witney did a fine job with that. However, as fun and funky as it was, Frankie had some issues here. He lost timing a few times, lost sync with the other dancers and had a stumble toward the end. Now in parts, he was fantastic. I loved the worm. Yes, he did the worm and I enjoyed the little bit of Disco I saw. This is Jazz remember so anything goes on this show. A fun dance but with some glaring visual issues. – Click for Performance VIDEO

Shania loved it. She thought it was right on and challenging. Bruno says Witney worked to Frankie’s advantages but he mentioned the lost timing. Carrie Ann calls it entertaining but agrees on the missteps. Len loved the spirit and enthusiasm. He calls it well done.

Some more results now before the dancing continues…

SAFE- Jordan & Lindsay
Lindsey & Mark- SAFE
Vanessa & Maks- SAFE

Vanessa & Maks – Quickstep
Well! First off, kudos to Vanessa for not messing up when her dress came off at the wrong time due to Maks’ feet. That could have been a serious stumble or mistake but she didn’t miss a step. Second, that was a hell of a fast paced quickstep and I am surprised and pleased at how well Vanessa kept up. Her posture, the footwork, and the racing around the ballroom were all pretty darn stellar. A vast improvement over last week and for the first time in quite a few weeks, I am seeing the Vanessa I saw in the early weeks. Hopefully she can keep this up if she is safe after next week’s show. – Click for Performance VIDEO

Bruno feels Vanessa killed it. He mentions one little mistake in the corner. Carrie Ann thought Vanessa let herself go and was free. Len wants the posture a bit better. He is unsure if that dance deserves the same score as he previously gave her (8), less, or more. Shania says it was sass, humor, and class. She loved it.

Jordan & Lindsay – Rumba
Gorgeous piece by Lindsay there. And beautifully danced by the pair. Probably my favorite routine of the night so far. Just a fabulous rumba with great hip action, lovely lines and extensions, and so much attention to detail. The character development was great, as it told a story and the pair had chemistry in buckets if you will. Stunning routine. – Click for Performance VIDEO

Carrie Ann loves how Jordan is one continuous motion when he dances. Len liked the mix of the dance and the genre. He nitpicks a movement Jordan did with his hand. It got on his nerves. Shania understands what Len means but it didn’t distract her. Bruno calls it gripping storytelling. He loved the strength and fluidity.

Lindsey & Mark – Argentine Tango
OKAY. That was my favorite piece of the night. Mark wins choreography of the night. Imagine how tough an argentine tango is to do on its own with all the staccato steps and leg flipping and posture and frame. Now add in looking and acting like a robot in between the moves and sometimes, during them. Damn. And Lindsey killed it. Just nailed the character and nailed the dance. I am so impressed with that. Stellar. Nothing more I can add. – Click for Performance VIDEO

Len loved the choreography. He loved the dancing. He says she deserves another ten. Shania felt it was intense and graphic. She loved it too. Bruno feels it was a work of genius. He calls it a superb argentine tango. He calls it the best dance of the season. Carrie Ann is all compliments and says the dance was slayed.

Elimination Time!!!

Also SAFE- Victoria & Val.

Leaving us tonight… Nick & Peta

Nick is most proud that he laid it out there weekly. He feels that he left not such a good dancer as he came but he is proud. He gives Peta credit and says he will be back next week to support Vanessa. They will be on GMA tomorrow morning as they head to the center of the ballroom to say goodbye. Vanessa rushes over for a long hug. And with that, Tom and Erin sign us off. – Click for Elimination VIDEO
