Dancing with the Stars judge Len Goodman’s cause of death revealed

Len Goodman‘s cause of death has been revealed months after the Dancing with the Stars judge died at at age 78.

Goodman’s death certificate states that he died after prostate cancer spread to his bones, according to a report from The Daily Express.

In 2009, he was treated for prostate cancer after secretly battling it during some seasons of both DWTS and the UK version of the show Strictly Come Dancing. He also revealed in 2020 through the UK’s Melanoma Fund that he received surgery for a facial melanoma on his forehead.

He reportedly urged others to “get checked up every year,” according to his book Better Late Than Never. “Medicine is [so advanced] now that if you do get something, then hopefully they can catch it early and you have a good chance,” he wrote.

Dancing with the Stars honored the late judge at the beginning of the season 32 premiere last Tuesday (Sept. 26)

“We’re obviously missing a big part of our Dancing With the Stars family tonight,” said co-host Alfonso Ribeiro. His co-host, Julianne Hough, called the late judge “irreplaceable” and noted that the show intended to “keep his spirit” alive by renaming the coveted mirrorball trophy the “Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.”

Surrounded by family and friends

Len Goodman died at age 78 in April after being diagnosed with bone cancer. He died at a hospice in Kent, UK, surrounded by his family.

“It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78,” said Len’s agent Jackie Gill in a statement. “A much loved husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.”

Len judged the popular BBC dance competition Strictly Come Dancing from its beginnings in 2004 through to 2016. He served as a judge on the U.S version, Dancing With the Stars on ABC and Disney+, from its launch in 2005 through to 2022. He retired after the show’s 31st season completed in the fall of 2022.
