Rumors swirled all week that Kesha would perform on Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards. Now, dick clark productions announced in a statement on Tuesday that the singer will not be able to perform on the show.
“Kesha accepted an invitation to perform on the show and she received written approval from Dr. Luke’s record label, Kemosabe Records,” dick clark productions said in a statement. “Kemosabe subsequently rescinded its approval following a media report on Wednesday May 11 regarding Kesha’s appearance on the BBMAs. Unfortunately, Kesha and Kemosabe have since been unable to come to an agreement for Kesha to perform on the show.”
The media report in question is probably TMZ which claimed that Kesha planned to make direct references to her ongoing legal battle with Dr. Luke during her performance, even maybe including images of him.
Dc productions has not given up on a Kesha appearance yet on the BBMAs yet.
“Dick clark productions has a long standing relationship with Kesha. We hope that the parties can come to an arrangement such that we can continue that long standing relationship with a performance by Kesha on the Billboard Music Awards stage on May 22nd.”
I would imagine the terms would be Kesha not mentioning Dr. Luke or their legal battle in any way shape or form when she takes the stage.
UPDATE: Kesha denies in a new Instagram post that she was planning to slam Dr. Luke in her performance, which was supposed to be a tribute to Bob Dylan.
