Derek Hough Skips DWTS 20 for a New Gig!

Derek Hough Book Signing For "Taking The Lead: Lessons From A Life in Motion"

Sorry Derek Hough fans! The five-time winner has to bow out of the spring edition of Dancing with the Stars due to a conflicting engagement.

The dancer will miss the 20th season of the competition reality show,  which returns to ABC in March, because he’s set to play the male lead in New York Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall.

Debuting in March, the limited seven week engagement will feature Derek as Jack, “a man with a special mission who will receive an eternal reward if he’s able to help a man named Bernie keep his position as a New York City tour guide. Bernie’s job is in jeopardy when Jenna reveals her plan to take the tour company ‘virtual.'”

Broadway star, Laura Benanti (Nashville, Sound of Music Live) plays Jenna.

Also appearing in the production are Whoopi Goldberg, voicing the Statue of Liberty, and Bella Thorne, as the voice of the Alice in Wonderland Statue.

There will also be celebrity cameos from Donald Trump, Martha Stewart, Henrik Lundqvist, and more.

“I am ecstatic that I’ll able to extend my passion for performing to the Great Stage of Radio City Music Hall in New York Spring Spectacular,” Derek told People Magazine. “Performing at Radio City Music Hall in a show that celebrates everything that is beloved about New York City is a dream. I can’t wait to show fans this production … it’s going to be like nothing they’ve seen me in before.”

Also missing from the spring edition of Dancing with the Stars will be Cheryl Burke, who has left to star in a reality show. The 20th season will be Judge Len Goodman’s last.
