David Cook Visits the If I Can Dream House – Video Preview

David Cook and his band dropped by the If I Can Dream house last week. Check out a clip of their rather, erm, awkward visit after the jump. The dude with the hair? That’s Justin Gaston, a former Nashville Star contestant (his singing was, uhm, not good) and ex-boyfriend of Idol mentor, Miley Cyrus (she was 15 and he was 20 when they began dating *cough*).

If I Can Dream is the brainchild of Idol creator Simon Fuller, has 5 wannabe artists of various stripes living in a house together. There are cameras in every room and you can drop by the IICD website to check out what the group is doing in real time.

There are also weekly episodes available for streaming on Hulu.com. David’s episode begins airing tomorrow. Also, check out a recap of his visit and his twitter chat at the LA Times HERE.

Anyhoo, I’ve tried watching the streams, and….Zzzz. Thankfully, guest stars like David Cook drop by to spice things up.

Kris Allen is set to drop by the house tomorrow (March 23)

Video after the JUMP…

  1. I watched more of this than I care to admit and it was REALLY awkward and weird. And I was so tired of Justin Gaston walking around strumming his guitar I wanted to smack him. Sorry Justin :)

  2. i don’t care what show David is on I could watch him all day
    thanks for posting MJ

  3. I found it kinda awkward and stalkerish. heh Because of the 3 hour time difference, I didn’t watch the entire thing. I went to bed around 1:15-1:30. There were parts of it that were interesting though. Thanks mj. :)

  4. Yikes. Aren’t clips supposed to show you the best stuff to make you want to watch their program? That was boring and awful.

  5. i was kind of happy to see this actually, made me realize that andy and neal made david feel less lonely than what he should feel.

i mean, when he was asked if fame has made him lonelier, then the idea of ‘Life on the moon’ came to me and as others mention, he might have felt that way, being with strangers and awkwards stuff happens.

having andy and neal made it less awkward and lonely. having your best buds with you makes a lot of difference. heck, he might view it as a new experience, not a bad one but ‘new & strange’.

cause when andy first joined in the band, i was kinda doubting him that the issue of being the frontman might come up. but more than a year later, i was proven wrong! sorry andy! as he said in a MWK interview, being with david was all about fun.. david took them on the ride cause it should be all FUN!

  6. I love how David refers to Neal as “Doctor” in regular social settings. These guys are hilarious. The whole situation was very awkward though. Thank God for the wine!

  7. How can it be stalkerish when it is posted on the internet and the house is set up so fans can watch? It was weird though. But David and Andy and Neal came off really well. I found the fact that Justin did not know that they sang a Stones cover funny. But in the end we got some good information from the session. So it was good for David fans. : )

  8. Well it is boring maybe the show was just a hidden way for Simon to pimp his “Guys”? Just please no DC and DA bromance movie set on the beach..

  9. Aren’t clips supposed to show you the best stuff to make you want to watch their program?

That WAS the best of it, zuper! I’m joking; there were a few good moments here and there, hopefully they will edit those together to make it look less awkward.I too didn’t make it through the entire
    night; just too wierd.
Neal and Andy really seemed more comfortable than David, and I’m assuming that’s because david always has to be cautious of what he says and does(or at least he thinks he needs to be).
I think the best thing I saw was how apparent their friendship to one another is. Neal and Andy seemed to be making a conscious effort
to not leave David alone with those wierdos.

  10. Offside:

Against my better judgement, I found that once they got through those awkward moments in the beginning (why did they highlight that part?)the whole thing became just absurd enough to be amusing. David was trying so hard to be charming, restrained and well-mannered, and Neal and Andy were teasing him non-stop. Neal and Andy are hysterical. Did you see the look of horror in Dave’s eyes at the end of the night when he was trying to get out of there and Neal kept insisting they stay (if only to torment Dave), and then the weird people offered them their spare room for the night? Or how about when Neal and Andy took those boxes of cereal – I thought that David was going to die of embarassment.

I don’t think that he was trying to be a jerk, I just think that he is socially inept. He was trying desperately to get David to pay attention to him and jam with him or something. Look at me! Look at me! Kind of sad actually.

  12. I stayed up until 3am to watch the whole thing. Yes parts were boring and awkward, but there were plenty of good parts that made it worth being a zombie the next day. I loved seeing Dave, Andy & Neal interacting with each other and I loved hearing Neal talk about his tatts.

  13. Reading back what I just wrote, I realize that I studied the whole thing far, far, far too intently. I swear, it was kind of fascinating. LOL.

  14. does david and justin know each other a little bit?? maybe miley cyrus connection? cause during a DCTR promo, david was on jay leno.. and miley was also a guest. well, as far as i remember miley gave a thumbs up to dave after the performance. my point is.. miley dating justin those times, and was casually introduced to each other..

  15. Did you see the look of horror in Dave’s eyes at the end of the night when he was trying to get out of there and Neal kept insisting they stay (if only to torment Dave),

That was funny, and then Dave says “I have to get up tomarrow at , what, 6:30, 7:30?” and Neal says “I don’t care!”
ETA- Did you folks know Dave is singing the National Anthem on Baseball’s opening day (April 5) in KC?

  16. LOL well, it’s good to know there was MORE to this than the posted clip! Cuz that was odd and awkward and boring and odd and awkward.

Well, I’ve now had a moment that I thought would never come — I’m actually glad I missed a Cook “televised” appearance. If I’d known about this, without a doubt, I’d have tried to watch it. (After watching the House “debate” and votes on HCR all day and night though, I’d have definitely suffered streaming/boredom overload.) But, I’m glad someone watched it! :-)

  17. yeah it’s a bit awkward. The whole thing lacks energy. this justin guy seems like a bored guy.

I’ll watch Kris on it tomorrow. That s/b entertaining :D (wish he brings Cale)

  18. David’s episode begins airing tomorrow.

Actually, unfortunately, Shirley H from latimes (@idoltracker) just tweeted:

David Cook’s “If I Can Dream” episode will start airing March 30 on Hulu, not 3/23 as we previously reported (sorry!)

does david and justin know each other a little bit??

Apparently, Justin mentioned before the guys showed that he met David at a bar in Nashville.

I don’t think that he was trying to be a jerk, I just think that he is socially inept. He was trying desperately to get David to pay attention to him and jam with him or something. Look at me! Look at me! Kind of sad actually.

I agree, I was totally annoyed by his constant strumming on the night, but in retrospect, he just kinda didn’t know how to interact with David, I think. And he seems to like David, and based on that model’s pre-visit vlog and some of the cast’s tweets, I think a few of them thought David might performed or something, so Justin was probably hoping for a jam session. These guys are supposed to be pursuing their dreams, so having David in the house was probably supposed to be somehow beneficial to Justin’s dream? Not that I blame David and the guys for not playing, though, cuz the set up was just kinda awkward and not conducive to something like that happening organically. It’ll be interesting to see if something musical happens when Kris visits.

  19. Lacey Brown was there last week, too, wasn’t she? Did she sing any of her Idol performance songs while there? Anyone see it?

  20. I saw part of Lacey’s visit. She and Justin did sing a little together, but I didn’t really pay attention to what they sang. Justin was much more upbeat and talkative with Lacey. But of course, she’s a cutey!

  21. Best part of the night (IMO) was when Neal gave everyone a tour of his many tattoos.

    Quote of the Night:
Random House Girl: Why did you get a tattoo of a naked woman?
Neal: *shrugs* I just wanted a tattoo of a girl with big tits. My Grandma Betty says this one (*points to tattoo*) is of her.

Now, the camera wasn’t very clear on this but I am praying that he was talking about two entirely different tattoos.

Other fun tattoo-age convo: When one of the girls asked Neal what the tattoos on his knuckles spelled out and where they came from (“So It Goes” from Slaughterhouse Five/Kurt Vonnegut). Reaction from girl = clue.less.

  22. Thanks for the thread, MJ. I loved that Dave answered so many questions. But the really good thing about this is Andy & Neal being there with him. Damn, I love these guys (in a wholesome-fan not stalkerish way, of course).

  23. Suenigma– Secong thought I agree that would be a good movie because DC has that funny wit..

  24. Neal: *shrugs* I just wanted a tattoo of a girl with big tits. My Grandma Betty says this one (*points to tattoo*) is of her.

LMAO. That has to be the best grandma ever.

  25. Tinawina: I don’t know but these are the first two new songs on Ascap and one of the writers has David Cook listed as a performer of his songs on his website: http://jimirvin.com/ So it becomes interesting.

  26. OMG is that who that Justin is? I didn’t even put 2 + 2 together. Now, I can’t take him seriously at all. Nashville Star too? Miranda Lambert and Chris Young, I believe, were the only legit two from Nashville Star. I stopped watching after awhile. I figured it would be awkward. The IICD guys are kinda quiet. There’s one blonde that has a bit of personality. The aspiring model is pretty dull. If Kris turns out to be the chattiest of the bunch, I’ll laugh. Off to watch David Cook.

  27. new songs! makes me wish for april to come early.. idol gives back & probably new single. can i have the album now??

  28. Just watched the clip and read some of the comments. I’m assuming the comments that had more details about the evening watched the stream live. The full taped version will be on March 30th. I think I got it right. Tomorrow Kris will be live and the taped show will be on a future date? Or am I just confused?

  29. I agree, I was totally annoyed by his constant strumming on the night, but in retrospect, he just kinda didn’t know how to interact with David, I think.

Oh, yeah, I don’t think he was a jerk or anything – but him walking around strumming the guitar all night was sort of like a fly caught in my bedroom when I’m trying to go asleep and it keeps buzzing… I had it on as background noise while I worked and would peek over now and then to see what the boys were up to :)

    Quote of the Night:

Neal: *shrugs* I just wanted a tattoo of a girl with big tits. My Grandma Betty says this one (*points to tattoo*) is of her.

Haha, I loved that – I didn’t catch David’s expression when Neal said “tits,” did anyone else? I loved chatty Neal. He was all kinds of friendly.

I love those guys. I’d still follow David around with or without current band but they are such a good group together.

  30. First, getting this outta the way: Cook looks really really good here. That said, this is kind of like when they have a big fish tank in the middle of a seafood restaurant, and you dont want to stare at the fish cuz you feel bad for them being on display like that, in a seafood restaurant no less, but they look so pretty swimming around that you watch them anyway. Meanwhile, the fish are probably all….dude. This is weird. Or is that just me? Okay, I caught the tail end only, and I’m glad because beer pong with tinfoil balls>>> awkward moment when nobody realizes they should take the wine from David and say thank you. Plus there was the tat safari with the Doctor. And don’t laugh, but I could have sworn Neal said he always wanted a tat of a naked green chick with big tits, and that the girl said it looked like Medusa? If I’m the only person who hallucinated heard that, chalk it up to sleep deprivation and 3D Clash of the Titans (!!) on the brain.

LOL, I loved that too. They are so Holmes and Watson sometimes, in a completely adorkable and yet also hot RDJ/Jude Law kinda way.

Does this mean we are on single watch? Hmm…

Mayyyyybeeeee….Dum dum DUM…don’t screw it up, RCA, or there will be hell to pay. And also? Aiiiieeeeee!!!! New songs!

  31. I follow a lot of artists who end up with songs registered on ASCAP and it sometimes means nothing. Some writers just prefer registering their songs right away. IIRC during the writing/production of DCTR songs started popping up on ASCAP, none of which ended up being a single. IMO they’ll start looking at potential singles once he finishes writing and/or they finally find a producer.

No, you are not the only one who heard that! I thought that was so WTF of him, because doesn’t Neal’s girlfriend have green hair, wears green all the time and calls herself the Green Queen?!?

ETA: And here she is (at one of their gigs): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qteI5hWn1Gs Pretty green, no?

  33. David , Andy and Neal were like the 3 kings, they came bearing gifts :D

FYI] New ASCAP (writing) entries for David Cook ‘Paper Heart’ http://bit.ly/aI9Oc7 and ‘We Believe’ http://bit.ly/cxvBBM

A couple of new songs by David we knew nothing about.

Are we sure that this isn’t the David Cook from My Favorite Highway?
ETA: Sorry clicked on the name and saw that it is indeed OUR David Cook.

  35. Wow, some of the songs titles by the other songwriters sound pretty hardcore. Perhaps even some comedy/Bowling For Soup kind of stuff. Very Interesting.

  36. I love how David refers to Neal as “Doctor” in regular social settings. These guys are hilarious.

LOL, I loved that too. They are so Holmes and Watson sometimes, in a completely adorkable and yet also hot RDJ/Jude Law kinda way

    Yes!
That’s pretty much the only thing that could make Cook and friends even better–if they SOLVE CRIMES!

  37. That clip was awful. I’ve never even heard of this show . . . and it’s deadly dull too. It seems worse than Big Brother because there are fewer people and none of them seem to talk. Can you believe that NONE of them took the wine from David? Or thanked him? I get that they’re young, but zero manners. Awful. And that stupid Justin didn’t know that Jumpin Jack Flash is The Stones? And he’s some sort of musician?

    Poor, poor Kris.

  38. Ok, out of curiousity, in preparation for next week’s episode, and because I couldn’t sleep last night, I went to Hulu and watched the last 30-minute episode, which is apparently the 3rd episode of the season, and the one where they get to and start living in the house. It’s pretty typical reality house type stuff, but call me crazy, it wasn’t horrible when they’ve distilled a full week of stuff into like 26 minutes. It’s really not that groundbreaking in the show form– very Real World/Making the Band kinda show. The cameras in the house seems like just an additional gimmick. They showed Justin conference calling with some guy in London who wanted him to write 6-7 more songs in a month, how they set Justin up with a couple songwriters, and then these guys banged out a song and went to the studio to record a demo. They set Gig up to an runway audition for Bebe, they coached her on walking, she did the audition, and then didn’t get it because they wanted taller girls. The three actors met with an acting coach. And the housemates hang out a bit. I dunno, I’ll probably watch this week’s episode as well to prep for context for David’s episode, and likely check in when Kris visits. But the way the narrative is set up to follow each of the cast’s “dreams”, I’m thinking David’s visit, or any celeb guest visit would be just a small part of the weekly episode. Which is a shame, cuz I only care about David and Andy and Neal =P…

Well fine, if you want to ruin all my fun being all logical and sane and all. Humph. :)

Hmmm, now there’s a TV show I’d watch, it would be like Behind the Music meets The Mentalist. Make it happen, Fuller.

  41. IMO they’ll start looking at potential singles once he finishes writing and/or they finally find a producer.

Not if David has his way, he said he wants a single by April. Which is not far away, so I have my hopes up :)

  42. David Cook wants a single by April like I want a pony.

Even if they pick a producer this week, (and please let that happen), they still have to contend with him flying out for the BTE thing, and IGB, and the Royals’ opener.

I’m guessing, based on what we’ve heard from that RCA intern, that it’s not mind-blowingly obvious which song should be the leadoff single, which means they need to track at least two or three songs. And while I know that band can rip through things in a couple of days, I still think that means a few weeks to track, mix, and master.

Beginning of May is all I’m hoping for.

  43. I’m guessing, based on what we’ve heard from that RCA intern,

    Que? Whatchu talk ’bout Willis?

  44. tinawina, this A&R guy, @thedavecarlson, works for David’s A&R guy (forgot his name). He tweets every so often about DC’s songs. Nothing terribly revealing, just general excitement about how awesome everything sounds, which is nice to hear, don’t get me wrong, but I mean, what else is he gonna say, you know?

Oh that guy! I get it now. Yeah, I am with you. Its nice to hear that but its not like he’d say it was bad either.

  46. I guess the A&R guy could say nothing at all if he did not like DAvid’s music. He is not forced to tweet about it. I am going to believe he likes the music.

  47. Oh I think he likes the songs, I just don’t know if the OMG FANTASTIC thing is a bit of hyperbole on his part or not. LOL. He does work for the label, it is in his best interest to hype it up a bit. :)

    Still, I’ll take it!

  48. anytime I could watch more of David, Andy and Neal would be a good time.

  49. I guess the A&R guy could say nothing at all if he did not like DAvid’s music. He is not forced to tweet about it. I am going to believe he likes the music.

Well yeah, me too. That’s why I said it’s nice to hear.

  50. David: I don’t know what is exactly going on but we bought wine.

LOL I guess David must be thinking what the hell he’s doing there. The show seems boring as hell just from this short clip. I hope Kris can successfully endure being there next week. Maybe do something crazy like messing up their kitchen or bedroom.
