  1. I could feel the energy! Thanks, Dave & Guys for a great, great year of concerts. May 2010 make even more of your dreams–and ours for you–come true. Dabs happy tears

  2. Wow Heroes and Champagne Supernova? FranFreakingTastic! Who’d a thunk it? Oh David Cook and The Anthemic can you cover every song I love? I loved Oasis back in the day and they imploded this was a nice reminder. DC even said Supernova like Liam with er at the end.

  3. That Champagne Supernova/Heroes mashup is amaaaazing. And holy crapy he looked unfreakinbelievable. Loved the undone bowtie!

Gotta say I normally love when he finishes with ADAM, but damn if I don’t have a lump in my throat that he ended the final show for year and the last concert probably for a long time with LO. The lyrics do seem especially fitting =/

  4. I took some very poor quality videos (having to hide camera a lot because I was in the first row of the back section – conspicuous), but I put them on YouTube, if anyone is interested. I got the countdown to 2010, “Lies”, “Make Believe”, and “Shattered Dreams”, as well as the end of his little visit to our section of the theater.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/TheBCarle#p/u

It’s nice to see closer and better quality versions from others. :)

  5. Vorona, thanks for those wonderful videos from further back. They are “OMG” awesome. No excuses necessary – they’re great!

  6. No hug and kiss for Neal, or did I miss it?

I hope those people in the front row getting the champagne shower weren’t too fond of their clothes. Ha!

  7. I can’t believe I was a responsible adult and missed this show. My one and only resolution for 2010 is to be wherever David and the Anthemic are performing next NYE.

  8. Well, now I know I’m old. Auld Lang Syne, sounded nothing like what I’m used to. Are you sure that is what that song was? And I like David Cook.

  9. Happy New Year everyone :)

  10. Oh man, Heroes is one of my favorite songs, and the Cookie and the band were melting it down on that Heroes/Oasis blend!! Yaaaay!

And a Cook live gig is such a goooood time! Whoot!!

  11. No hug and kiss for Neal, or did I miss it?

    Didn’t see it either.

Well, now I know I’m old. Auld Lang Syne, sounded nothing like what I’m used to. Are you sure that is what that song was? And I like David Cook.

Yeah, it is. Listen carefully to what Neal is playing. You can hear the regular melody of that song, plus a few frills.

  12. Well, now I know I’m old. Auld Lang Syne, sounded nothing like what I’m used to. Are you sure that is what that song was? And I like David Cook.

Rock versions of Auld Lang Syne are like blades of grass these days.

Compared to the Jimi Hendrix version (starts at 1:04), this was downright straightforward.

And Crunchy Supernova amuses me a lot.

  13. My husband was laughing last night when I showed him the video of Auld Lang Syne. They’ve been working all week on getting the live feed working so they could stream it throughout the casino at midnight, so he thinks that the version you hear in the concert is the recording the tech guys used to rehearse it. Well, not just the recording — they aren’t doing air band. David and The Anthemic are playing over it, so I think you’re hearing them, not the recording, but if you dislike the arrangement, you can blame the casino’s recording that they’re following.

  14. I love David Cook. What an awesome performer and person. He’s just too
hot!!! Can you tell I’m a cougar?

  15. Love the countdown. I also love that Heroes video. David always brings it. Looks like it was a great show.

  16. I’ve been listening to Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall for the past week or so, just because i’ve just been in an Oasis-mood. But when I found out David sang Champagne Supernova and Heroes [My fave DCTR song] I think I just got my new years gift from him.

He looks well good too. Great show. Now…if only he starts touring international….

  17. Well, not just the recording ‘” they aren’t doing air band. David and The Anthemic are playing over it, so I think you’re hearing them, not the recording, but if you dislike the arrangement, you can blame the casino’s recording that they’re following.

    LMAO! That’s kinda funny.

Can you tell I’m a cougar?

    Nahhh. =)

  18. I just watched CougarsLoveCook video for “I Did It For You”. There’s cute banter at the beginning about censoring himself because his mom was there. HA HA, Dave! Then he “scolds” a guy for directing the wolf whistle at his mom. Oh, Dave, that’s so awwwwww-worthy. :)

ETA: That banter video before LO should put to rest any doubts about Dave liking/choosing Light On.

  19. I am SO jealous of everyone who got to be there! It looked like so much fun! Wow, that was a lot of confetti, though, LOL.

  20. Happy New Year B*tch*s sign! LOL! I bet they had a blast and laughed their butts off thinking of that one! Loved it! That looked like the perfect way to ring in the 2010! I love how they worked in Champagne Super Nova. That was so cool. Leave it to Cook and the Dr. to find the perfect NYE mash-up! Group bow FTW! Come Back to Me/Us real soon Cookie! Happy NY!

  21. Wow, that was a lot of confetti, though, LOL.

It went on and on and on. Very cool. I have some in my pocket, and I’m surprised I’m not finding it in my hair, my clothes, etc.

There are carpeted panels on the wall in the theater, and when we left, they were completely coated in confetti. :) Don’t envy that clean up job!!!

  22. I just watched CougarsLoveCook video for ‘I Did It For You’ . There’s cute banter at the beginning about censoring himself because his mom was there. HA HA, Dave! Then he ‘scolds’ a guy for directing the wolf whistle at his mom. Oh, Dave, that’s so awwwwww-worthy.

When Cook says “She’s married, sir!” he sounded just like the comedian, Jim Gaffigan. Whenever Cook jokes around, he really sounds like him and, since Gaffigan is a really funny guy, I’ve got to believe David is a fan because he’s definitely imitating his voice.

  23. Awww!Wish I was there! Love the way they incorporated Champagne Supernova! Can’t wait to see what these guys do next year!

  24. Awww, I have NYE with Cookie & Anthemic envy! Thanks so much for the videos, they are great.

  25. Was that one of David’s new guitars on H/CSN?

Just watched the IDIFY banter! Hilarious! David is one smart Cookie – he knows when to censor himself! LOL at “My mom is here!” So cute!

  26. Was that one of David’s new guitars?

Mmmhmm. He had 2 new ones. The red and copper ones. The copper is my favorite.

    ETA:

Was that one of David’s new guitars on H/CSN?

That would be the new copper guitar. :)

  27. His resolution: “to make a record and have a tour that blows all this shit out of the water!” LOL! You go, guys!

Have I mentioned a thousand times that I love Make Believe?

Thanks so much for all the vids.

  28. David the King of Great Hugs, forgets to hug the guys? Awww. Who did he hug on the side of the stage?

Well now that the tour is over over, maybe I can get my life back! Lol!

  29. I had more fun just listening to this cellcast than I have ever had actually going any place on NYE !
Vorona, your vids are great( fantastic sound, too.) !

  30. I had more fun just listening to this cellcast than I have ever had actually going any place on NYE !
Vorona, your vids are great( fantastic sound, too.) !

I couldn’t stay up. It started at 2AM for me. (Darn East coast!)

  31. Vorona, your vids are great( fantastic sound, too.) !

Thanks. The sound isn’t bad. I was sitting three chairs from the sound booth and at the same level as the stage. Maybe that helped. But my little S90 rocks. Fits in my pocket, looks like a point and shoot, but does so many tricks. All quality issues were user error. ;)

  32. Woohoo!! NYE with Cookie! Bet that was awesome. Looks like he had a blast. As it should be.

  33. I haven’t read the entire thread yet (I will); I stayed up & listened to the cellcast after the rest of my household went to bed. I really enjoyed hearing it, and appreciate the lucky folks like vorona who were there and generously shared videos! (on the cellcast someone said Cookie hugged his Mom when he stepped offstage. A couple of twitters late at night indicated he and band continued to party at the casino)

Gosh, I love Dave and his band – like so many others I can’t wait to see what they do next!!!

  34. He looks well good too. Great show. Now’ ¦if only he starts touring international’ ¦.

    Yes please.

  35. Did you guys see that we Cook fans “won” an award:

Scroll down and feast your eyes:

    GoGladiator Media

    David Cook

GoGladiator Most Passionate Fans Supporting a Musical Artist in Social Media Award 2009 ‘“ @TheDavidCook Fans

David Cook offers up Q&A sessions on Twitter that explode his stream with fan activity, videos that gets posted of him are sure to have hundreds of viewers within a matter of nano-seconds, cell casts of his concerts attract a loyal viewership, and his fans travel the country to see him in an almost Grateful Dead like fashion! He might not have sold the most albums, or had the highest grossing concerts of 2009, but he does have an underground movement of passionate fans that live, eat, and breath his music and everything else David Cook. The fans are affectionately known as ‘Word Nerds’ or ‘Cookies’ , and no other fans in social media even come close!

  36. We so deserve that award. Cook fans really are underground though. I’ve finally won something in life. Yes.

  37. Oh, wow. I LOVE that red guitar. Was he wearing his red boots last night? (Not that I’m partial to that pair or anything.) ;-)

He might not have sold the most albums, or had the highest grossing concerts of 2009 . . .

He sold a heluva lot more albums than a lot of artists this past year and, for a new artist, I think his numbers probably look pretty good in terms of concert receipts.

vorona, I love your videos. The sound is always so much better when the video is taken at a distance from the stage. Fantastic that you were near the soundboard — that’s usually the best spot in the house for recording from my experience. And thank you for not singing along (even though I’m sure you’re a great singer!). That a cappella section of “Lie” gave me chills.

  38. We so deserve that award. Yes indeed – we are very loyal. I have been impressed with how far people are willing to travel to see Cookie perform. Last concert I was at, the woman next to me at the end of the stage was from South Africa!

  39. What he doesn’t mention is something someone on another Cook message board brought up: Most importantly, David’s fans also raise a lot of money in support of charities David supports *and* we support and, many times, follow artists he recommends, giving them a fair shake as well. We’re not zombies or lemmings, but we do respond when Cook points us to a worthwhile cause or to an artist who deserves a listen. Yea us!!!

  40. And thank you for not singing along (even though I’m sure you’re a great singer!). That a cappella section of ‘Lie’ gave me chills.

Shoot! Totally forgot to sing off key and then scream and scream until I blew out the microphone on my camera! ;)

  41. I was there for both shows and when that “Happy New Year Bitches” sign came down, I cracked up.
He was really working last night, pounding the guitar when appropriate, in great voice, joking around, but he also had some classic Cook Earnest moments. During Lie when the audience was cheering, he paused, looked down, smiled a bit and said, kinda low, “You will never know how much I love all of you.” (Paraphrasing – I’m sure there’s youtube; I can’t look for it, I’m on a layover). He sounded totally sincere and it was so damn sweet. Normally I don’t go for earnest in my musicians, but that one really wears it well.

ETA: Oh duh. There’s obviously youtube. It’s linked here. I won’t be able to watch it for several hours.

At 2:54, he says, “I love you guys more than you know.”

  43. Perfect! Happy New Year David!

Thanks so much for the great videos. How much fun to be there! Jealous, I am. :-)

  44. Thanks for the thread, MJ. Happy 2010, y’all.

    David just tweeted:

@thedavidcook Day one of ’10: workout done. Write for a bit and hang with fam up next. Thanks again to all for last night’s show. Incredible!

AI Now also posted 3 out of 5 segments of an interview with David done on December 30th at the Pechenga:
    Part I
    Part II
    Part III

  45. I just watched those interviews. What a waste of time to have him interviewed by that girl. We got nuthin’, folks! Nuthin!

  46. Well to be fair it doesn’t look as if she was given a lot of time to interview him. They cut the interview into short 1min 30sec or so second snippets so not a lot of time to get into hard hitting questions. But at least she concentrated on the music and not other things.

  47. I personally think that’s one of the better descriptions of his writing process that we’ve ever seen. I’m not surprised that he’s a big picture kind of guy, but “I plan out my themes before I pick up an instrument” is a new revelation, no? It’s not like any other interviewer was going to come out of there with the name of a producer, an album title, and three likely cuts. It’s just not there yet.

But yeah, they really snipped it down.

  48. Yeah, the AINow interviews tidbits are short but kind of neat. Like his description of songwriting, and about working with Claude Kelley . . . also, did he say he’s writing with Chantal Kreviazuk again? That’s who he wrote Permanent with, so yay on that!!

  49. They edited that to no end. But I found it interesting when he said “I wasn’t worried about… we have to have so many singles or anything like that, I just wanted to make a record.” I’m telling you that dude reads what fans say. Its kinda creepy.

  50. I think the question about how he goes about writing a record really interesting. He’s has sorta answered the question about writing songs before. But this question was from a different angle.

I really wanted to know if he plans to record the record with The Anthemic. And I want to know if he will be playing guitar and other instruments on the new record. Due to time constraints he didn’t play on first one.

  51. did he say he’s writing with Chantal Kreviazuk again?

Yes he did. In fact he mentioned both Raine and Chantal and I believe he mentioned Johnny Rzeznik as well.

Yep, these tidbits are indeed short but the process is far from over so I didn’t expect anything major from it but it’s still interesting to hear what Dave has to say about who he’s working with.

  52. I always enjoy interviews with Cookie. I’m glad he’s excited. I do hope the band stays together and he writes with Neal some more.

  53. Most importantly, David’s fans also raise a lot of money in support of charities David supports *and* we support and, many times, follow artists he recommends, giving them a fair shake as well. We’re not zombies or lemmings, but we do respond when Cook points us to a worthwhile cause or to an artist who deserves a listen.

Yes to that – the shows I’ve been to, I mean… there are some nutters, but there are also a whole lot of really awesome people who give much love not only to David but to the bands that open for him. If anyone who went to the Richmond show is hanging around here… there was a cool moment with folks singing along to Ryan Star’s “Breathe,” that was pretty awesome. I’ve met some great people, and of course what the fans do in raising $$ for Race for Hope is amazing. Love watching the totals go up.

At 2:54, he says, ‘I love you guys more than you know.’

Aww, Cookie. We love you, too :)

  54. MJ, this may not be the right place to thank you for this great blog. I somehow think it is appropriate since I found your site because I was looking for more Cookie info during AI7. But this is overall just a super Idol site. Though I mostly love DC, I love Idol, the show, as well as many Idols, especially Carrie, Melinda, and Allison to go along with David. I also find it fascinating to follow the progress of the new Idol artists in the big bad music business. Going back on topic–David Cook completely stole my heart somewhere between “Hello” and “Eleanor Rigby,” and I enjoy following him in a somewhat less biased site than DCO or crazy places like DCU. I think DC is doing everything right professionally to build himself a long term music career, but ultimately all will be determined by whether or not he puts out music that resonates with the music buying public. It really is hard not to root for such a talented, charming, did I mention sexy, charismatic performer.

Anyway, I look forward to a new year of Idol watching and hopefully continued success to David Cook.

  55. does anyone know if there are mp3s of the NYE show? I would love a playlist of last night’s concert. what a stellar end to a incredible year. so psyched for cookie’s next record. i hope 2010 brings him all that he’s earned and dreamed about…

  56. So…that video of Auld Lang Sine kicked some serious ass!! Go David! I’m looking forward to this next album. I may force myself to like it, dammit!

  57. cookmerized, there are some downloads at this website, but the people that sometimes upload a complete concert set have not yet done so.

  58. I just LOVE your site mj!!! Thanks so much for all the time you put into this.
These videos remind me that IMHO Cook is the VERY best male artist to WIN AI to date!!! He is Amazing!!!!

  59. He is the one and only Idol. Looks like a blast on NYE. He only gets better. Ready for DCTR2.

  60. I was there with my family. It was so much fun. He came to the audience at one moment and stood in front of where we sit for few seconds. I was totally freaking out. AHH, I love him so much.

  61. idolwatcher

He is the one and only Idol

    ditto

DittoDitto. I just wanted to add into all these superlatives about David Cook and the Anthemic (to which I really couldn’t add) that Pechanga was so supportive of our Idol and forthcoming to his fans. I may have spent some time there when I lived in So Cal. I’ve been in the Chicago area for over 4 years now so don’t frequent Pechanga anymore. I’m just a bit in awe at how they’ve supported him and us. They make me want to hit their tables…

  62. Wow…Cook sounds great. He interacts so naturally with the audience, and is it me, or is he really getting good with that guitar…he is so sexy when he thrashes that guitar around…sigh.

  63. Wow…Cook sounds great. He interacts so naturally with the audience, and is it me, or is he really getting good with that guitar…he is so sexy when he thrashes that guitar around…sigh.

  64. Don’t envy that clean up job!!!

    They used leaf blowers, lol!

Terrific, terrific shows. Dave and the guys seemed really rested and happy to be up on stage again. The sold out audience was enthusiastic but well mannered. It was a great way to end an amazing year.

  65. Happy New Year, Bitches! Rang in the new year with a wet and muddy bowl game o/, and now I have tons of Cookie goodness to catch up on. Love the Heroes/Oasis mash up. The band doesn’t sound rusty in the least. He looks adorbs with the bow tie (although I miss the long bangs- so shoot me.) And I am just soaking up the new interviews and writing discussion. Am glad the question about the album writing process was asked, and that he talked about conceptualizing the whole thing to come up with something thematically cohesive. I think based on back catalogue and DCTR that he’s pretty good at creating albums that are more than the sum of the singles, and it’s nice to confirm that he plans on continuing that trend. Already diggin madly on Make Believe, so I am so stoked about the new tunes. Not angsty or nervous about the actual music really, just excited to see what he pulls out of that giant noggin. Angsting about label support and single selection etc can come later. Hee.
