Dancing With The Stars 12 – Week 9 – Recap and Videos

Leader board:

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas73
Hines Ward and Kym Johnson
60
Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy54
Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff48

Ralph Macchio seems like the nicest guy in the world, and he has certainly had his moments on the dance floor, but I think that it’s his time to go. Tonight, he was clearly the weakest of all the dancers, and I think he’s still hurting from his recent knee injury. And to think I picked him to win it all at the beginning of the season.

No, it’ll be Hines and Kym who take it all.  Hines is not only likable, but he’s fun to watch on the dance floor. And who could help but be moved by his backstory? His Korean mother raising Hines on her own, sacrificing everything, helping to instill the drive and work ethic that would help turn him into a great football player… Yeah, he’s got this one sewn up, y’all.

Despite the fact that Mark Ballas comes off as a giant douchebag, my favorite is still Chelsea Kane. She’s been underrated all season, yet she works hard and dances beautifully.  To be honest, no matter who wins, I’m not going to be mad.  DWTS Season 12 has been a really fun season, with lots of good dancing and great personalities. I’m going to miss it when it’s over.

It’s the Dancing with the Stars semi-finals! Four couples compete for the chance to compete in next week’s final competition.

I’ll be live blogging right here…

The dancers will perform 3 dances each.

Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff – Argentine Tango – Butt booster pants!  Great choreography. Karina is stunning. Ralph seems to be out of pain. Solid job.  Len: It lacked a bit of emotion, I liked the set up round the setup. Sharp and precise. Full of content. Well done.  Bruno: Once you actually got a hold of Karina, you were detached. I still haven’t seen the Latin lover. Too flat in interpretation. Carrie Ann: You have to get your emotion all the way down to your feet.  Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 9, Brun0 – 8 – 251-800-868-3408 – VIDEO

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Viennese Waltz –  Maks and Kirstie get testy with each other in rehearsal.  Oh, this is very nice. Gorgeous sweeping movements as they glide around the dance floor. These two could win it all.  Bruno: Set sail beautifully! You were on the crest of a wave. Well done. Carrie Ann: I’m impressed. You do something that’s really magical. Len: I thought you’d be a cling on, but no–beautiful posteur, sweeping movement. Well done. Carrie Ann – 9 Len – 9, Bruno 9 – 271-800-868-3411 – VIDEO

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas – Argentine Tango –  Mark’s getting all bitchy with Chelsea.  Chelsea is the best dancer left in the competition. That tango was really hot. Carrie Ann:  I found that to not be up to par. Leg motions were not sharp. You have to finish your moves. Len: Your legs lacked a little bit of authority. It was clean, it was precise the lifts were right in character. Well done. Bruno: You played it well. Absolutely on it. Basic Instinct, but restrained. The didn’t get it I GOT IT. Well done. Hm we have some disagreement on the panel! I noticed the legs were a little off at times, but it was still a compelling routine.  Carrie Ann – 9 Len – 9 Bruno – 10 – 281-800-868-3401 – VIDEO

Hines Ward and Kym Johnson – Argentine Tango – Wow. OMG Hines slips and falls on the back of Kym’s neck.  He’s horrified. The paramedics come and put Kym in a a neck brace. They whisk her off to the hospital. I can’t believe she can dance after that.  But the routine is AMAZING. The choreography is complex and fantastic. Hines and Kym dance beautifully. After they finish, Hines begins to cry. For reals. What a softie.  Kym has a tiny wardrobe malfunction. Len: THAT IS A TANGO.  Bruno Every emotion was out there for the taking. Who is going to be the dominant partner? It was like group sex you never want it to end. Carrie Ann: Is crying. I’m just happy you’re OK. I’m so impressed with the routine. Hines I loved the way you supported her. The dance was stunning.  Carrie Ann – 10 , Len – 10, Bruno – 10 – 301-800-868-3403 – VIDEO (Video includes Kym’s accident)

Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff – Salsa – Video package features friends and family members talking about the stars.  OMG. Ralph looks like such a geek dancing the salsa. He’s having a hard time pulling off “sexy.”  I’m laughing here. It’s obvious he feels kind of silly. The cat outfit Karina is wearing is….something. Len: There was no real rhythm. Too wild. Bruno: You definitely went for a bad-ass salsa (Bruno was beeped). Carrie Ann: Oddly, I liked it. Yes your technique went out, but it was the most fun you’ve had in the competition. Carrie Ann – 8 Len – 7  Bruno – 8 – 23 – 48 – VIDEO

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Paso Doble –  Kirstie talks about her cocaine addiction, but no discussion of her clamminess.  Kirstie and Maks are on a roll that was fabulous! Full of passion. Bruno: You were really going as a force of nature. Carrie Ann: You are the queen of the paso doble. Len: You’ve come out and danced fabulous. Well done.  Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 9, Bruno 9 – 27 – 54 – VIDEO

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas – Rumba – Jordin Sparks talks about her friend Chelsie in the video package.  Romantic and fluid, another beautiful job from Chelsea. Carrie Ann: That’s what I want to see! That was a nice Rumba  Len: Mood, it was very expressive, natural hip action. You have fulfilled your postential. Bruno: It was romantic, erotic, perfectly pitched. Stunning. Carrie Ann – 10 Len – 10 – Bruno – 10 – 30 – 58 – Awesome for Chelsea and Mark–the deserve to be topping the leader board. – VIDEO (Included bit with Jordin Sparks)

Hines Ward and Kym Johnson – Hines backstory is really inspiring–mom emigrated from Korea with her mixed race son to find a better life.  Hines is having a lot more fun on the dance floor, and seems a lot less worried in this routine.  Len: I loved it. A joyful experience. Bruno: You’re just beautiful man (has Bruno turned into Steven Tyler? ) Carrie Ann: I can’t even explain how much joy you express when you dance.  Enough about the joy. What about his technique? It was just OK.  Carrie Ann – 10,   Len – 10 Bruno – 10 – 30 –  60. Uhm. OK. That routine was TOTALLY OVERSCORED. What? – VIDEO

Winner takes all Cha cha cha! The winner earns 15 bonus points. Two pairs of couples will dance again each other. The two winners of the first heat will then face each other. The judges think bonus points will  save a couple who deserves to win (more like pimp a fav into the finals, but whatevs).

Hines and Kym vs. Ralph and Karina. Oh geez. This will be no contest people! Ralph is rallying. I’ll give him that. But he’s a goner. Len: Hines you looked good doing it. Good job. Len: Ralph you come out totally committed. Well done. Ralph, you have raised the game. Carrie Ann:  Ralph, your hips were in it to win it.  They say some nice things to Ralph to let him down gently, because of course, All 3 pick Hines and KymVIDEO

Hines and Kym win the round

Chelsea and Mark vs Kirstie and Maks – the cha cha cha is Kirstie’s best dance, but I have to give the edge to Chelsea. Bruno: Chelsea clean sharp. Kirstie: musicality expresiveness. Carrie Ann: I don’t know who to pick   Len: It’s a real challenge.   All 3 choose Chelsea and Mark GOOD CHOICE.   Ha ha. Maks kisses Tom on the cheek and then continues to try to distract them. – VIDEO

Chelsea and Mark win the round

Total confusion over a coin toss. But it finally gets sorted out.  Hines and Kym will dance first, Chelsea and Mark will dance second. Brooke reveals that both couples will dance to Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance”. They have less than 4 minutes to listen to the music and figure out their moves. – VIDEO

Chelsea and Mark Vs Hines and and Kim – Hines is charming, fun to watch light on his feet. But, Chelsea’s got the moves, despite a tiny stumble at the end. She deserves the points! Len: This is truly 2 couples of varying styles. Daddy cool vs little miss dynamite. Both did well. Bruno: You both did incredibly well. Carrie Ann: You both have proven yourself dancers. A tough one. But all three judges pick Chelsea and Mark! – VIDEO

Chelsea and Mark earn 15 bonus points! Total – 73 points!
