Daily Numbers Thread 09/24/2019

Today’s thread is brought to you by the number 2 and the letters ‘S’ and ‘N’.

It’s a week of repeats at the top of Billboards two marquee charts. Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” spends a fourth week on the top of the Hot 100 while Post Malone’s “Hollywood Bleeds” dominates the BB200 for a second week. The album moves an impressive 198K in its second week, but most of that is streaming (166K SEAs, 6K TEAs, 26K traditional). The Lumineers “III” debuts in second on the BB200, but with 72K in sales, they will top the Album sales chart.

Camilla Cabello continues to have the number 2 song on the Hot 100 with her Shawn Mendes collaboration “Señorita”. Kurt Cobain gets his second top 10 hit in this decade with “Panini” at number 5. This is the latest song from memetastic Lil Nas X and is built on an interpolation of Nirvana’s “In Bloom” which Cobain wrote. Lil Nas X’s previous hit “Old Town Road” was built on the bones of a Nine Inch Nail’s song and “Old Town Road” returns to the top 10 this week.

In other news, rapper 6ix9ine is testifying at a trial and may enter the witness protection program. I’m curious how that works when you have your rapper name tattooed on your face. Do you just claim to be a HUGE fan? Do you get a barrel of cover-up make-up? Or do they just offer a coupon to a laser services? Who knew tattooing your name on your face might be a bad idea? There is at least one FBI agent willing to go on record saying that if he gets a haircut and some decent clothes, there are lots of places he could hide in plain site in the US. I think the unabomber’s cabin might be one of those spots. The other spot is the “Into the Wild” bus.
