CBS Tries to Address Big Brother Controversial Comments and Fails

CBS released this statement to the Hollywood Reporter today about the controversial and racist comments made by several of this summer’s house guests:

“Big Brother is a reality show about watching a group of people who have no privacy 24/7 — and seeing every moment of their lives. At times, the Houseguests reveal prejudices and other beliefs that we do not condone. We certainly find the statements made by several of the Houseguests on the live Internet feed to be offensive. Any views or opinions expressed in personal commentary by a Houseguest appearing on Big Brother, either on any live feed from the House or during the broadcast, are those of the individual(s) speaking and do not represent the views or opinions of CBS or the producers of the program.”

It is a lame attempt at addressing a situation that is not needed in today’s world. As I have made known in my comments on the Daily Feed and Sunday’s recap I have dealt with racism in my own life and I don’t really care to deal with it in something that should be entertainment. I have started to watch less of the Live Feeds because this cast just doesn’t impress me and they are just not decent human beings.

The statement from CBS is a pathetic attempt to distance themselves from a cast that they choose. Out of all the people who apply to play or show up for casting calls CBS and the producers of Big Brother choose these people. It is good to know that CBS does not share the views of the cast but how about taking some ownership on casting these people rather then shrugging their shoulders and saying “that’s life. ”

I understand that life is mixed with the good and bad. Not everything can be good but at a certain point the network needs to take a stand against such derogatory comments and actions. Or in the very least address the comments during an aired episode since it is all part of the “experiment.”

Of course we all know that they won’t show the comments or anything controversial. They would rather show Elissa as a bad person for being Rachel’s sister and show Aaryn as a broken hearted girl who was snapped at because her “boyfriend” was nominated. Because that is what she deserves to be known as.

Aaryn is the worst offender but I have to point that that her partner in crime Gina Marie is barely shown on the episodes but for those who watch the Live Feeds know she is just as bad with the comments toward other house quests. The racist comments is what gets the most heat but they have shown just as much hatred toward Andy for being gay and Elissa for having the “misfortune” of being Rachel’s sister. The show has been successful in creating Super Villains this summer.

CBS needs to step up and more then just releasing a statement saying that do not support what they are showing on the Live Feeds
