CBS Corp CEO Les Moonves defended the network’s handling of the racist, homophobic and misogynist commentary between the houseguests on the reality series, Big Brother this summer.
“Big Brother is obviously a social experiment, it always was. It’s the 15th iteration. I find some of the behavior absolutely appalling, personally. It’s unfortunately reflective of how certain people feel in America. I feel we’ve handled it properly. We did not comment on some to the things being said until it affected [the game].”
Moonves is married to BB host, Julie Chen. As an Asian woman, she has expressed her disgust with the behavior displayed by the housemates, describing herself as “enraged” by the comments.
When asked what conversations they might have had about the show’s controversies, Moonves said, “I’m not going to tell you what goes on in my home.” He also mentioned that his wife “would kill me” if he didn’t watch the show.
The comments came Monday morning at the network’s Television Critics Association press tour session in Beverly Hills.
