Less than 24 hours after its release, Carrie Underwood’s new album Play On is #1 on the overall iTunes album chart.

  1. I hope she stays at #1 until the weekend.

Cowboy Casanova is also #1 with Lady Antebellum coming close. If she gets both her CD and CC to #1 this week that would be really awesome

  2. Carrie is a force of nature! Good for her. Too bad for me that I don’t like her music.

  3. I am not surprised by this at all but her doing it in less the 24 hours is impressive indeed. She is a force of Nature and I am lucky that I do like her music (even though I am not a big country fan….go figure)

  4. Carrie is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Everyone should avoid releasing the same day as her at all costs. I wish her nothing but the best, and hope she can stay number 1 for a very long time!

  5. Good for Carrie…can’t say I’m all that surprised though.

I don’t get the whole Glee phenomenon — at least not in terms of downloading the music. Why not just tivo the shows and save the $$$? But that’s just me.

Kris’ pre-order is doign well now, it’s #10 on pop chart ad #45 overall at last glance

  6. I enjoyed a lot of the songs on this album. I downloaded it and I am usually no fan of country music. Well done, Carrie.

  7. “I don’t get the whole Glee phenomenon ‘” at least not in terms of downloading the music. Why not just tivo the shows and save the $$$? But that’s just me.”

Because by downloading the music you get the full length songs instead of songs cut down for TV.

I actually haven’t been downloading the Glee music other than Somebody To Love because all the autotuning drives me up the wall, especially with people like Lea Michele and Amber Riley who don’t need it.

I’m happy seeing Carrie up there at #1. I’m happy for Glee’s success too – it hasn’t reached its potential yet but the dialogue is great and I love the cast.

  8. kudos to carrie on another amazing album, and the residency atop the itunes charts… she’s testament that paying your dues, coupled w/ good old fashioned talent hasn’t gone the way of the dodo in the music industry… she may not sing the type of music most of us listen to, and some may think she is rather colorless personality wise, but this young lady brings it everytime, and she has built up one heck of a solid and devoted fanbase to back all her efforts… they may not be as visible and vocal as some here and across the web, but oh boy have they made themselves known today…. good job carrie, all all the fans who have shown up and shown out for her on itunes!

  9. slightly off topic, but in regards to glee… i ain’t mad at ’em, because they will be singing david a’s ‘‘crush” in an upcoming episode – makes me giddy, heh… that show gives great exposure to all the songs these talented young folks sing, and there is usually a bump on itunes for the original versions… we’re hoping this gives ”crush” another big catapult closer to 2 million downloads… 1.83 mil and counting at last update, so rock on glee

  10. Am really enjoying this album. On my second listen. Good for Carrie.

  11. Crush on Glee!

They just combined the maturnieces Favorite Things Ever in one package. Their pretty little heads are going to exploooooddeee!

Is that confirmed? If I told them and it turned out it was a rumor, I am pretty sure they would execute me on the spot.

    Ooops: ON TOPIC, congrats Carrie for topping the phenomenon of the moment, Glee, and Kristin Chenowerth singing Carrie’s song on Glee and being on her upcoming special shows you that the entire universe is connected through cover songs;

  12. Major congrats to Carrie! Well deserved #’s for another great album.

  13. “i ain’t mad at ’em, because they will be singing david a’s ”crush’ in an upcoming episode ”

Is that for sure? I hope so but I didn’t think Jennifer Paige’s hit Crush had been ruled out.

  14. YAY for Carrie!!

She is the reason I started listening to country music. I have already purchased some of her songs from Play On on Itunes and will complete her album today. I also plan to stop at Target on the way home from work and pick up two hard copy CD’s ($9.98 on sale) for my mom and neice, who are big Carrie fans. Carrie really appeals to all generations which is why she sells so well.

As a Carrie and Danny fan, I am looking foward to his single and album as well and I think he will have cross-over appeal also.

  15. she may not sing the type of music most of us listen to, and some may think she is rather colorless personality wise, but this young lady brings it every time

    Well said. ITA.

  16. I’m not a country music fan, was not a fan of Carrie’s during AI4, and didn’t like her first album. But I liked and eventually bought Carnival Ride, and will be completing Play On tonight (already have two of the songs). She’s matured in terms of stage presence and she always had great pipes. She does a surprisingly good job in both Cowboy Casanova and Last Name in injecting a rock vibe into her singing.

And it doesn’t hurt that she says nice things about David Cook in print and on her special.

  17. I actually haven’t been downloading the Glee music other than Somebody To Love because all the autotuning drives me up the wall, especially with people like Lea Michele and Amber Riley who don’t need it.

WORD. They need to cool it with the autotuning… though to be fair, a few of the guys prolly need it (cough, Finn, cough).

Is Carrie still #1 on iTunes? Go girl! And country doesn’t even do as well on iTunes, comparatively speaking, right? So can we predict Carrie will be opening at #1 on the Billboard 200? I dunno what her competition is this week, but that’d be tight.

  18. slightly off topic, but in regards to glee’ ¦ i ain’t mad at ’em, because they will be singing david a’s ”crush’ in an upcoming episode ‘“ makes me giddy, heh’ ¦

I don’t think it’s been confirmed, yet, if the “crush” on the next Glee soundtrack is the David Archuleta song.

  19. this was posted on a glee forum yesterday… looks like a tracklist for the volume 2 album… dunno how ”official” it is, but it’s out there… stay tuned…
