Carrie Underwood’s Injuries More Extensive Than First Reported

When news broke that Carrie Underwood took a spill on her front steps in November, causing her to cancel an appearance at a benefit show in Nashville, it was reported that the country singer broken her wrist and required surgery.

But as it turns out, there was much, much more to the story, as the American Idol season 4 winner explained to members of her fan club in a recent letter posted to her fan club.

According to Rare Country, Carrie explained to her fans that she is still receiving physical therapy for her wrist. However, she explained, “There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up. It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.”

She continues, “In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.”

“Now … 7 weeks later and, even though I’ve had the best people helping me, I’m still healing and not quite looking the same,” she continues. “I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way.”

There was a hint from Carrie’s husband, Mike Fisher, that her injuries were more extensive when he wrote in an Instagram post:

“Thank you all for the tremendous love and support for Carrie over the last few days. I’m reminded that there are so many good people in this world. I’m reminded that through the pain fears and tough times God is with us and He’s painting a beautiful story through it all (Romans 8:28). Sometimes it’s hard to understand why things happen but we thank him and Praise His name in the midst of it all! Thanks again!!

On December 28, Carrie surfaced for the first time since her accident with a photo on Instagram. Fans didn’t know it at the time, but if the photo is indeed, new, the Calia by Carrie scarf she’s wearing served a purpose beyond warding off the cold.

No doubt, Carrie is being tended to by a team of highly qualified doctors. It may take a while, but in time, she’ll be back to her old self again.

Get well soon Carrie!

ETA: Full post from Carrie:

Today, we say “goodbye” to 2017 and “hello” to a new year and a fresh beginning. It’s hard for me to sum up this past year. Like so many others, mine was marked by triumphs and tragedies…ups and downs and everything in between. I hope, someday, to fully share some of the defining moments that we experienced in 2017. I think that sharing our stories with each other helps us heal and also helps us know that we’re not alone in our trials. That said, I would like to share more with you about my most recent struggle.

Most of you know that I tripped and fell and broke my wrist in November. I’m still doing regular physical therapy for that, but all is coming along. There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about, since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up. It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life. In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike that he had put between 40-50 stitches in. Now, here we are 7 weeks later and, even though I’ve had the best people helping me, I’m still healing and not quite looking the same. I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way. I’ve still got a ways to go in the recovery process, but it’s encouraging to see every day be a little better than the last.

Another reason I’m telling you this now is because I’m heading in the studio next week.  I’m determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way. And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different. I’m hoping that, by then, the differences are minimal, but, again, I just don’t know how it’s all going to end up.

Thank you all so much for being understanding and patient with me.  Like I said, I’m determined to make the new year incredible and I especially can’t wait for you to hear the new music I’ve been working on. I truly believe it’ll be my best work yet!
