Carrie Underwood to Sing “Changes” on the CNN Heroes Awards

Carrie Underwood hit the red carpet tonight (Nov 22) for the 2009 CNN Heroes Awards. Carrie will be performing a special orchestral arrangement of   “Change” from her new album Play On.

Leona Lewis and Maxwell will also be singing on the program.   Idol judge, Randy Jackson, will appear as a presenter.

The top CNN Hero of the Year and a grant of $100, 000 went to Efren Penaflorida, who rejected gang life and embraced education for himself and other Filipinos as an escape from poverty. He and the other honorees received $25, 000 each.

The CNN Heroes Awards will be televised on CNN, November 26.

  1. great to see Carrie there and all the other stars…the awardee of the CNN Hero of Year is my “kababayan” Efren Penaflorida from the Philippines! Thanks and bless you all who voted =)

  2. MJ, it’s “Change”… the title says “Changes” :)

“Change” is co-written by Katrina Elam, Josh Kear, and Chris Tompkins. Josh and Chris wrote “Before He Cheats.” Katrina used to be a country singer herself before dropping off the scene; she previously recorded “Flat on the Floor” which became an album track for Carrie’s Carnival Ride album.

Carrie also performed “Change” for her holiday special. My bet, and a lot of others’, is that she will also perform the song for the upcoming Idol Gives Back.

Carrie Underwood just deliverd powerful performance of Change on CNN Heroes

And yay for Efren Penaflorida winning! He’s my kababayan too. We also featured his organization for one of my office’s outreach activities in the Philippines. His story is truly inspiring.

  4. MJ: I think the performance date should be 11/21 — not 11/22. 11/22 is the AMA and carrie will be performing there.

  5. Looking forward to hearing Carrie’s performance. Has it been uploaded anywhere yet?

And yay for our kababayan Efren Penaflorida. The kind of work he is doing is going to change a lot of lives. He is indeed a hero.

I voted for him a total of one time. Hahaha. So, happy he won.

  7. Randy’s always around the pretty girls on the red carpet and Carrie looks great too.

Just bought Leona’s album Echo and it’s outstanding – so much better than Spirit. I can’t understand why Happy was released as a single as it is the least single-worthy track on it!! Simon and/or Clive – whoever was responsible – need to seriously consider refresher courses in A&Ring.

I can see some great collaborations between Adam, Leona and Carrie – a few great amalgamations of tone and technique possible there – and they’re all on Sony.

  8. I watched this “CNN Heros” last year.It just gives me a warm feeling that there are people out there going that extra mile to help out others with no intention to get attention to themselves just to plite of others whom need help..Sad fact is to some the spotlight will be on Carrie U singing instead of the regular joe whom are doing “heroic” selfless acts..That’d why I like this better than Ai gives back even if its brings big money it is partly AI patting themselves on the back..This is

  9. Looking forward to hearing Carrie’s performance. Has it been uploaded anywhere yet?

It hasn’t been uploaded yet because it hasn’t been on TV yet. The CNN Heroes telecast is on November 26th at 9 PM Eastern.

On a very shallow note I think Carrie’s blue dress is up there with her Movies Rock red carpet red Egyptian-inspired number as 1 of my favorite red carpet looks for her ever. She looks gorgeous!

I’m really looking forward to the CNN Heroes telecast :) It’ll be a night of great stories punctuated by 3 strong performances.

  10. No matter my thoughts on Carrie…I must say that she does have a good sense about what looks good on her….except for the red dress that makes me think of the Nutcracker. Whether she has a great stylist or is self-blessed with just good fashion sense…I must say kudos.

Now to be shallow…I must say that I always look more forward to seeing how Kellie Pickler will grace the carpets. Her stuff can be OTT, or beautiful, or usually Both. And she always looks so damn cute. Guess I’m more into Skipper than Barbie, or Betty than Veronica, or MaryAnne than Ginger. Funny that!!

  11. Ooooh someone got audio of Carrie singing Change live @ the CNN Heroes event! It’s a little muddy but I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth! She sounds great.

Here’s some footage from the event itself including Efren Penaflorida’s speech, some coverage of the night’s other honorees, and a short clip of Carrie singing Change.
