Carrie Underwood is currently trending on Twitter, and experiencing a ton of blowback after liking an anti-mask post from extreme right wing podcaster, Matt Walsh. The tweet she returned features Walsh publicizing a speech he gave to a Nashville school board opposing COVID-19 mask mandates for children.
The reaction on Twitter was full of quips such as “Next time she’ll think before she tweets, from author Lauren.

Many fans are upset after the American Idol season 4 winner revealed that she’s anti-mask, at least for children. Fans are also assuming and therefore accusing her of being anti-vaxx. However, a person can be anti-mask, but still support COVID-19 vaccinations. Anti-vaxx and anti-mask often go hand-in-hand, but not always. Carrie has not commented on the subject, other than amplifying Matt Walsh’s tweet, which is specifically about mask mandates for children.
Carrie is trending, because folks DEFINITELY have thoughts on her anti-mask beliefs. Many thoughts.
I’m going to say something that is going to be hard for some of you to hear.
Yes Carrie Underwood is absolutely conservative.
So are a lot of stars you love.
Get over it.

Carrie Underwood being a God-over-Science person is the least surprising thing I’ve heard today.

To everyone having a meltdown about Carrie Underwood *gasp* liking a tweet from a conservative commentator, just wait until you find out how many of your beloved A-list celebrities are deeply conservative.

It’s not just that Carrie Underwood liked an anti-mask tweet. It’s that Carrie Underwood liked an anti-mask tweet from Matt Walsh, one of those most negligently histrionic voices on the topic of protecting kids from COVID. ?

It’s worth noting that Carrie came out in favor of gay marriage back in 2012. In an interview with UK Independent, Carrie mentioned that she and her husband, Mike Fisher attended a gay friendly church, ““Our church is gay-friendly. Above all, God wanted us to love others. It’s not about setting rules, or [saying] ‘everyone has to be like me’. No. We’re all different. That’s what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other.”
She continued, “As a married person myself, I don’t know what it’s like to be told I can’t marry somebody I love, and want to marry. I can’t imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love.”
Her support of gay marriage caused blowback as well, But it came from her conservative fans, rather than her the liberals.
Carrie and her husband are both devout Christians, and quite vocal about that. She recently released a gospel album full of beloved Gospel hymns. But I am quite surprised she liked a tweet from such a divisive pundit. Because while she is open about her spirituality, she has always ALWAYS kept her political beliefs close to her vest.
Correction: Edited post to reflect that Carrie liked the tweet, rather than returned it. It’s still on her page under likes.
