NBC previewed the new Carrie Underwood Sunday Night Football opener during halftime of Sunday’s (Aug 25) preseason game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans. The full 2019 open starring the American Idol season 4 winner will debut on Sunday, Sept. 8, as the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots host the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Carrie stars in the NBC SNF show open for the seventh consecutive year and welcomes Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Joan Jett, who makes an appearance during the country singer’s performance. Watch the preview below.

At Carrie’s invitation, Joan–whose 1988 Top 10 hit “I Hate Myself for Loving You” was adapted for the original “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” SNF show open music in 2006 – appears for the first time in the NBC Sunday Night Football show open.
Carrie Underwood’s NBC Sunday Night Football Open to Feature Joan Jett
Carrie and Joan joined forces for the first time at CMA Fest in June where they performed a trio of rock classics, “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” “Bad Reputation” and “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
Additionally, thirteen NFL players, who have accounted for 31 Pro Bowl selections (including 10 2018 Pro Bowlers), four Super Bowl rings, and nine first-round draft picks, are in the show open.
