The American Idol season 4 winner attended the ceremony to present awards in two music categories with rock star Sting. You can watch their presentation below:

Bustle gathered a collection of tweets (so scientific…I know) from viewers snarking on the dress. For instance, one observer opined, “Why does Carrie Underwood’s dress look like it’s covered in sliced deli ham at the top?” Admittedly, I don’t love the ruffles–it wasn’t one of Carrie’s better red carpet looks. But beyond the ruffles, the look is feminine and pretty. Yahoo also posted a few tweets. Some loved the look. Others compared the ruffles to “ladies parts.” E News put Carrie on their list of “worst dressed.”

In a pre-show interview with Ryan Seacrest for E News, Carrie admitted she was only fitted with the dress late Saturday night after arriving in Los Angeles. “We got to trying on dresses, and I loved this one from the start,” Carrie said. “It makes me feel girly!” Carrie added that after enjoying a little time with her family–husband Mike Fisher and son Isaiah–she’ll begin writing songs for her next album.
