Jessica Cabral talks ‘Idol’ exit, future plans – In that situation, song choice is key, and if she had her way, she’d have sung “something by Taylor Swift and changed it, but we couldn’t do any of her songs. None of her songs are on the cleared list,” the 20-page list, with probably 50 to 75 songs on each page, of all the songs the competitors are allowed to sing. But while that’s a lot of songs, Cabral says her choices were even more limited: She was given a choice of three songs to sing: “Breathe,” Tori Kelly’s recent pop hit “Hollow,” or Colbie Caillat’s moody self-esteem rumination “Try.” Cabral says “Hollow” was her first choice, but the producers strongly encouraged her to go with “Breathe,” saying “we think it will be a slam dunk.” And Cabral is quite clear she doesn’t believe she’s that person, as evidenced by her launching immediately into a GoFundMe Page to help fund her own album, which at this point she’s certain will be worship-themed, although she’s still deciding whether it will be a congregational album or something more on the artistic side. “I actually was contacted by ‘The Voice,’” she says, adding that she’s still considering going through the process. “My first audition with them is next Tuesday.” – Read more at Telegram.com

Lee DeWyze Talks New Album, ‘American Idol’ Win and ‘The Walking Dead’ Hit Song – “I’m a singer-songwriter that won American Idol, not an American Idol winner that became a singer-songwriter,” said Lee DeWyze a few days before the release of his latest album Oil & Water. Still boasting the aura of musical brilliance that undoubtedly propelled his American Idol win back in 2010, DeWyze considers himself an “old soul,” interested in the kind of music that moves people to their core. – Read more at Lipulse.com

Lee DeWyze brings new music to Teaneck – Singer-songwriter Lee DeWyze’s new album is the most introspective of his career. Not coincidentally, the singer-songwriter stripped down the instrumentation on “Oil & Water” to shine a brighter spotlight on his words. Musically, “Oil & Water” mainly features DeWyze on acoustic guitar. Gone is the bluegrass stomp and accompanying banjo from his previous album, “Frames” (2013). “This one is very centered around my life and things I’ve been going through,” DeWyze said by phone. “The songs are very lyrical and it’s really about getting behind the emotion and lyrics of each song. It’s very personal, but I think it’s something everyone can relate to in their own life.” – Read more at North Jersey.com
