In a Facebook chat today with her fans, Carrie Underwood unveiled the title of her new single and upcoming album.

“Smoke Break,” co-written by the American Idol season 4 winner,  and frequent collaborators, Hillary Lindsey and Chris DeStefano, is the first single off of the forthcoming album, Storyteller, out on October 23. The single is produced by Jay Joyce.  “Smoke Break” is out to country radio now, and will be available on iTunes Friday.

In a video posted on Facebook ahead of the Q&A, Carrie said, “The song itself is just…one of those story songs everybody can relate to,” She continued, “about how life is so hectic and it’s so nice if and when you get to step away for a second…we all need that. We all need that time to ourselves.”

During the Q&A, Carrie said she co-wrote six of the songs on Storyteller. Here are a few answers about new music Carrie answered from fans:

On choosing songs for the album, “It’s all about what I like personally and what fits together for the album as a whole. And I try to keep things like touring on my mind when choosing songs as well. What will work in big arenas? What will the audience like to sing along to? Etc…”

What inspired the album, “I feel like a lot of the songs that I wrote and gravitated to ended up being more traditional and “twangy” than anything I have ever done before. I just went with it! I love the story telling aspect of Country music…it’s one of the reasons I always wanted to be a part of it.”

How did she and the co-writers come up with the title, “Smoke Break”: “We were writing and kept taking breaks to go outside because we were getting a little stuck on a song we were already working on. It was so beautiful outside, that we had a hard time focusing so we decided to write a song about taking breaks! “Smoke Break” seemed like a great title, so we ran with it!”

Any duets on the album? “No duets, but I have a few very talented people who helped out with their beautiful voices in a background kind of way!”

Does the album sound like previous efforts, or is it completely different? “I think it definitely has it’s own sound and feel, but I hope I kept all of the things that people have enjoyed about my music to date. I just wanted to keep growing as a songwriter and as an artist. It’s very exciting! And, obviously, I stick to a lot of what I love about Country music…which is story telling!”

In an interview with the Tennessean, Carrie said about he new song, “I feel like this is a good representation of where the album ended up. I’m influenced by a lot of different kinds of music and styles of music, but this just ended up with a really nice twang that I feel like is really fresh for me.”
