Billboard – Chart Date 07/12/2014

Idol’s Danny Gokey (8th season, 3rd place) debuts on top of the Christian Album and Christian & Gospel Album charts with “Hope In Front of Me”. Miranda Lamber (Nashville Star) and Carrie Underwood (Season 4 Idol Winner) top the Hot Country Songs and Country Streaming charts with their “Somethin’ Bad” duet. Cher Lloyd is featured on Demi’s “Really Don’t Care” which topped the Billboard Twitter Track chart this week. Voice contestant Gwen Sebastian is featured on Blake Shelton’s “My Eyes” which topped the Country Airplay chart this week. AGT’s Lindsey Stirling has been topping the Classical Cross-over chart for the last 9 weeks. Her single “Shatter Me” is also topping the Classical Digital charts for its 10th week.

Also this week, the SoundScan mid-year report is out. Album sales are down, Stream Album Equivalents (SEA – 1500 streams equals 1 album) double and Vinyl Albums continue to see gains (up 40%). The decline of physical albums continues to outpace the rise of other album sales. Total album sales (including TEA (10 tracks equals 1 album) and SEA) is 227M (235M). Digital Album Sales (including TEA) 113.2M (129.1M). SEA 46.9M (24.8M). Most spun song on radio “Happy”. Market Share: UMG 38.1%; Sony 27.9%, Warner 18.8% Indies 14.3%. Genres: Rock 34.7%, R&B 15.3%, Country 12.2%. Store Share: Download Stores 44.5%, Mass Market (like Walmart): 23.2%, Non-Traditional Venues (like Starbucks and Amazon): 13.3%, Chain Stores 11.8%, Indie Stores 7.3%. Interesting note: The market share for labels is based on distribution, but BB notes that ownership shows a much different picture. The Indies are increasing significantly on that front. BB promises numbers on that in the coming days.

As we all know, there are approximately 54,198 Billboard charts. This is a summary of just some of those charts and how the Idols/Voicers/XFactorers/AGTers did on them this week. Please feel free to post rankings from your favourite BB chart or any other numbers you care to share. This is the daily numbers thread. The date in the header is the published chart date.
