As first reported by Reality Blurred, the upcoming season of the reality series Big Brother will air in the fall exclusively on CBS All Access.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Season 19 will run 10 weeks, shorter than a normal season. The new season will fire up shortly after the September 21 Season 18 finale. It will be an expansion of the franchise and will NOT replace the annual summer run of the show on CBS broadcast network.
The network has aired the Julie Chen-hosted series during the summer for all but season 9 which premiered in winter 2008 during the writer’s strike. After the season finale garnered the show’s lowest ratings, CBS stuck to a summer schedule.
According to Reality Blurred, casting is already underway. CBS All Access is a subscriber service. Loyal fans of Big Brother likely already pay for the service in order to watch the show’s live feeds.
If the new season begins immediately after season 18, feedsters won’t get a break. The new cast will probably move into the house just as it is, in which case, production costs should be pretty low for a season that will draw only the hardest of hardcore watchers.
