America’s Got Talent 2025: The Boykinz Earn Terry Crews’ Golden Buzzer with Cowgirl Sibling Energy
America’s Got Talent Season 20 continued on Tuesday night (July 15) with the 7th AGT audition episode, which featured thrilling talent that included two golden buzzers. In the first, Sofia Vergara gave singer Jessica Sanchez (Season 1 AGT semifinalist and Season 11 American Idol runner-up) one. And Terry Crews awarded another to singing group, The Boykinz.
We meet the sibling group backstage as they chat with Terry. They have been watching the show since they were kids. Mel B greeted them backstage and as big fans of the Spice Girls, they were in awe. One member even had a Mel B doll. The group, made of Alona (18), Nytere (19), Anale (22), Kylan (23), loved the Spice Girls for their “individuality.” Their last name is Boykin with the z, to indicate that the quartet are members of Gen Z. They explain to the judges that being a “country-infused band with western R&B and pop” influences sets them apart from other singing acts.

The group performed an original titled “Fell in Love with a Cowboy.” It kicked off with a very pleasant group harmony. Their voices sounded somewhat alike. They have choreography, and great energy, although I found it lacked some feeling. It seemed a bit too rehearsed, but they did hit some bigger notes as the performance proceeded. Harmonies are their strong suit, so I would actually like to hear something that relies a bit more on the verses and solos, as this song had a strong chorus with the best parts being the group parts. The group clearly wowed the judges as both Sofia and Mel stood midway through the performance.

Howie Mandel told them, “I think we are watching the blast off of a brand new career.” Sofia enjoyed every bit of it, saying “I think people in America are going to love you.” Simon Cowell declared, “You are going to be stars,” calling it “almost the perfect audition.” Mel added, “The way that your synergies, your harmonies, you are beyond.” The crowd chanted “Golden Buzzer!” repeatedly as Mel pleaded with Howie, the only judge left with a golden buzzer, to give it to them. He attempted to ask a question, but the crowd didn’t let him. Finally, Terry approached the judges table. For the first time in the show’s history, Terry gets to hand out a second golden buzzer. “The audience asked for a golden buzzer, and I’m going to give you one right now,” he announced. The Boykinz celebrated the moment with Terry on stage.
My standout of the night was Jessica Sanchez who made her much awaited return to the big stage with “Beautiful Things,” earning herself a golden buzzer. The acrobatic acts were also super strong with the Xi’an Acrobatic Troupe giving ballet an acrobatic twist, and Sirca Marea performing a death defying routine with crazy drops and throws. Some of my favorite acts of the season came from this night, so let’s hope the last auditions are just as good.
